Friday 9/1/2075: Minnesota's Detrick earns Pitcher of the Month award
It's the 1st time that the American League Pitcher of the Month award goes to Minnesota's pitcher Patrick Detrick. He struck out 24 hitters in his 6 starts, putting together a record of 6-0 while pitching 24 innings. His ERA in August was 1.54. Patrick also fired a shutout. Opposing players hit .252 against Patrick this season. While posting an ERA of 2.81 he went 17-4 in 29 starts, fanning 138 and walking 25 hitters. He has 2 complete games and 2 shutouts. He's 3rd in the American League in ERA and 2nd in wins! The best month of August in the National League certainly had Arizona's right-hander Jared Gant, earning him the Pitcher of the Month award. He went 5-0 in August and finished the month with an ERA of 1.16. He struck out 41 in 46.2 innings. His ERA of 2.67 helped him to a 15-6 record this year. Friday 9/1/2075: Kansas City's Valdejuli earns Batter of the Month award
Alfonzo Valdejuli of Kansas City wins his 2nd Batter of the Month award for putting up the best numbers in the American League. He had an on base percentage of .386 and hit .317, while driving in 35 runs. Valdejuli has hit for a .283 average this season. He has 68 extra base hits along with 271 total bases, resulting in a .533 slugging percentage. The National League Batter of the Month award goes to Michael Wiles, Pittsburgh's starting rightfielder. Michael went 38 for 95 (.400), while hitting 9 HR and collecting 29 RBI. His season features a batting average of .317 (152 hits in 480 AB), 47 doubles, 5 triples and 33 longballs. Wiles collected 116 RBI and 107 runs as well. He's 6th in the National League in batting, 4th in homeruns and 2nd in RBI!
 
Wednesday 8/30/2075: Minnesota has no chance in a 2-hitter by Gregory Hillyard
MINNESOTA - Detroit's right-hander Gregory Hillyard will never forget this day. The 27-year old recorded his first career shutout, a 2-hitter, against Minnesota on Wednesday. With one out in the 5th inning Neil Willits singled to break up the no-hitter. 'I had my stuff going. Everything I tried worked. What a day!' Hillyard (16-8) fanned 5 and walked none, throwing 106 pitches. Detroit's second baseman Timothy Guillaume stroked 2 hits in 4 AB, doubling twice, and collecting 3 RBI. That was enough to support the brilliant performance of Hillyard. Detroit improved its record to 69-65, scoring 10 runs on 12 hits.
 
Monday 8/28/2075: Player of the Week honors go to Valdejuli and Reichard
The American League Player of the Week award goes to Alfonzo Valdejuli, Kansas City's starting leftfielder. In 33 at bats he hit .394 with 4 HR and 14 RBI. St. Louis' rightfielder John Reichard had some reason to celebrate as well, as the league named him the National League Player of the Week. He had an on base percentage of .579 and hit .579, while driving in 4 runs. His season features a batting average of .304 (77 hits in 253 AB), 9 doubles, 2 triples and 8 bombs. Reichard collected 40 RBI and 38 runs as well.
 
Saturday 8/26/2075: St. Louis' Caņizares out for 6 weeks
ST. LOUIS - St. Louis is without its left-hander Joey Caņizares for at least 6 weeks. He injured himself while throwing a pitch to Alberto Hernandez in a game against Pittsburgh. His face showed signs of pain immediately after the ball left his hand. After x-rays were taken the diagnosis did not surprise many: Strained Back Muscle. Surgery will be performed next week. This season Caņizares compiled an ERA of 4.14, going 10-9 in 28 starts. He fanned 163 while giving up 158 hits in 167.1 innings. Joey has pitched one shutout and one complete game.
 
Tuesday 8/22/2075: Kevin Douglas stars with 2000th career hit
SAN DIEGO - San Diego's centerfielder Kevin Douglas joined some elite company today, collecting his 2000th career hit! With one out in the 2nd inning, Kevin drilled a double, causing a standing ovation from the crowd. In 14 years of big league action so far, Kevin has compiled a batting average of .294, along with 137 homeruns and 861 RBI. 'I'm out of words. I'll probably realize it tomorrow, but for now I'm done.'
 
Monday 8/21/2075: Rankin (DET) and Schulz (SDN) win P.O.W. award
It's the 4th time that the American League Player of the Week award goes to Detroit's leftfielder Mary Rankin. Mary was on fire, hitting .421 with 4 HR and 11 RBI. The National League's best player of the week was San Diego's Cameron Schulz, who wins the award for the 1st time in his career. He had an on base percentage of .606 and hit .567, while driving in 8 runs.
 
Friday 8/18/2075: Pittsburgh's Michael Wiles goes deep three times
CHICAGO (N) - Michael Wiles was in a groove, and the results spoke for themselves. He powered Pittsburgh to a 12-0 win over Chicago (N) by homering three times. His 1st blast, a two-run homerun off Eloy Robinson in the 1st inning, landed an estimated 397 feet from home plate. A 397 foot drive to left-center marked his 2nd bomb, a solo homerun off Eloy Robinson in the 4th inning. His 3rd shot, a three-run homerun off Robert Nicastro in the 9th inning, cleared the fence in left field. Overall he collected 5 hits in 6 trips to the plate, hitting 2 doubles, with three runs scored and driving in 7 runs. Wednesday 8/16/2075: Danny Gilliland slams 3 HR
SAN FRANCISCO - Danny Gilliland was in a groove, and the results spoke for themselves. He powered Arizona to a 12-7 win over San Francisco by homering three times. In the 4th inning he unloaded a solo homerun off Alberto Cruz. A pitch from John Bowyer in the 6th inning left his bat for a solo homerun, landing 410 feet from home plate in right-center. His 3rd shot, off Wilburn Hurley in the 9th inning, was a three-run homerun and cleared the fence in right-center. Overall he finished with 3 hits in 6 AB, with three runs scored and collecting 5 RBI.
 
Monday 8/14/2075: Player of the Week honors go to Davis and Rios
It's the 1st time that the American League Player of the Week award goes to Minnesota's second baseman Douglas Davis. Douglas went 15 for 27 (.556), while hitting 1 HR and collecting 4 RBI. The National League Player of the Week award goes to Clemente Rios, New York (N)'s starting leftfielder. Clemente was on fire, hitting .455 with 4 HR and 7 RBI. He has hit 13 longballs while batting .190 this season. His 76 hits and 61 walks add up to a .297 on-base percentage.
 
Sunday 8/13/2075: Adelardo Pedrosa pitches his 2nd shutout of the season
FLORIDA - Great days are rare. But not for Florida's right-hander Adelardo Pedrosa. Chicago (N) found out the hard way that he is among the leagues top pitchers, getting just 2 hits. It's his 2nd shutout this season, and the 32nd time he has done it in his career. 'Pitching a great game is always a good thing. And it doesn't get much better than today.' Pedrosa (16-6) fanned 4 and walked 5, throwing 109 pitches. Manuel Barbosa provided Florida with the offense Pedrosa needed as he went 2 for 4, with three runs scored. Florida scored 9 runs on 10 hits.
 
Sunday 8/13/2075: Patrick Jordan ropes 2000th career hit
PHILADELPHIA - Philadelphia's second baseman Patrick Jordan already had some highlights in his career, and today he added another one, getting his 2000th career hit. His hit in the 5th inning was a single off Richard Carmody. Along with his 2000 hits, Patrick collected 437 homeruns and 1333 RBI in 12 seasons. 'I'm out of words. I'll probably realize it tomorrow, but for now I'm done.'
 
Saturday 8/12/2075: Los Angeles (N)'s Redmon severely injured
LOS ANGELES (N) - When it rains, it pours. Los Angeles (N)'s right-hander Benjamin Redmon will not pitch for at least 7 weeks, handing the team a huge setback. He suffered a serious injury in a game against Colorado where he left the field in the 8th inning. Doctors examined him after the game and diagnosed a Spasms Back which will require surgery. Opposing players hit .318 against Benjamin this season. While posting an ERA of 6.78 he went 1-5 in 0 starts, fanning 49 and walking 37 hitters.
 
Saturday 8/12/2075: Albert Bear fires 2-hitter against New York (N)
ARIZONA - With his best stuff going, Arizona's Albert Bear overmatched the opposing hitters all day long. New York (N) had no chance, collecting just 2 hits against the southpaw. Bear (7-8) struck out 4 and issued 3 BB, throwing 58 of 108 pitches for strikes. 'Things like that happen. You take the mound and everything works. My velocity was pretty good today and I guess it showed.' Leonardo Trujillo helped Bear at the plate, he went 2 for 3, homering once, scoring twice. The final score of the game was 5-0.
 
Thursday 8/10/2075: David Nunnery collects 2000th hit against Cincinnati
CINCINNATI - Milwaukee's players had every reason to congratulate David Nunnery, who reached a milestone today, collecting his 2000th career hit! With one out in the 1st inning, David drilled a single, causing a standing ovation from the crowd. Along with his 2000 hits, David collected 401 homeruns and 1299 RBI in 12 seasons. 'My firends always told me that I will do it one day. I never believed it. Good that I was wrong!'
 
Wednesday 8/9/2075: Abel Garza (CIN) will miss 6 weeks
CINCINNATI - Cincinnati's ace Abel Garza suffered a severe injury on Wednesday and will be out for at least 6 weeks. In the 3rd of the game against Milwaukee he experienced pain in his throwing arm and had to leave the game. Garza was rushed to an hospital near the ballpark, where doctors took x-rays. Those revealed the serious injury, Bone Chips Shoulder. His ERA of 1.84 helped him to a 16-5 record this year. He struck out 192 and walked 17 in 181 innings. He has 2 complete games and 2 shutouts. He's 1st in the National League in ERA and 1st in wins!
 
Monday 8/7/2075: St. Louis' Corchado wins Player of the Week award
It's the 2nd time that the American League Player of the Week award goes to Toronto's first baseman William Hosier. William pounded opposing pitchers, hitting .542 with 3 HR and 11 RBI while slugging 1.000. William is hitting .293 this year, with 108 hits in 369 at bats. He has driven in 83 runs, slugging .520. The Player of the Week award in the National League goes to St. Louis' Fermin Corchado this time, as the second baseman displayed the best offensive perfomance in his league. Fermin was on fire, hitting .577 with 5 HR and 10 RBI.
 
Friday 8/4/2075: Texas' Garcia severely injured
TEXAS - Texas is without its ace Pedro Garcia for at least 5-6 weeks. He injured himself while throwing a pitch to Victor Johnson in a game against Seattle. His face showed signs of pain immediately after the ball left his hand. After being examined by several specialists the diagnosis is clear: Pulled Bicep Muscle. In 25 starts this year Pedro struck out 156 batters in 172 innings of work. His ERA is 3.45, his record 12-7. Pedro has pitched one shutout and 2 complete games. He's 4th in the American League in ERA and 3rd in wins!
 
Wednesday 8/2/2075: Frank Johnston dominates Chicago (A), gives up just 2 hits
DETROIT - Detroit's right-hander Frank Johnston is a great pitcher. And he once again showed his stuff, blanking Chicago (A) on just 2 hits. It's his 1st shutout this season, and the 7th time he has done it in his career. Johnston (8-9) struck out 2 and walked none, throwing 68 of 107 pitches for strikes. 'Hey, that's my job! Everytime I take the mound I give the best I can. And my best stuff was too much for them today.' Detroit's designated hitter Eddie Ladson finished 2 for 3, stroking a double. That was enough to support the brilliant performance of Johnston. Detroit improved its record to 57-52, scoring 1 run on 4 hits.
 
Tuesday 8/1/2075: Philadelphia's Hernan Latta mashes five hits
COLORADO - 'Wow, five hits in one game is something special, isn't it?' said Philadelphia's centerfielder Hernan Latta after the 14-12 win over Colorado. In the 4th inning he belted a double off Alberto Perez. His 3rd hit, a solo homerun off David Miller in the 5th inning, landed an estimated 416 feet from home plate. In the 6th inning he belted a double off David Miller. He collected singles in the 1st inning (one RBI) and in the 12th inning (one RBI). Hernan did drive in 3 while scoring 2 runs on his own. He now has a total of 96 hits this season, accounting for a .289 batting average.
 
Tuesday 8/1/2075: Polzin and Taylor receive Pitcher of the Month award
Michael Polzin couldn't have pitched much better than he did in July, and the American League thought so as well, naming the left-hander Pitcher of the Month. His record of 3-0 in 5 was among the leagues best this month. In 35 innings of work he allowed just 17 hits while striking out 34, compiling an ERA of just 0.77. This season Polzin compiled an ERA of 4.95, going 8-9 in 22 starts. He fanned 134 while giving up 116 hits in 131 innings. It's the 1st time that the National League Pitcher of the Month award goes to Pittsburgh's pitcher Michael Taylor. He went 4-0 in July and finished the month with an ERA of 2.65. He struck out 43 in 37.1 innings. This season Taylor compiled an ERA of 4.24, going 11-4 in 20 starts. He fanned 149 while giving up 127 hits in 138 innings. He's 6th in the National League in wins!

It's the 1st time that the American League Batter of the Month award goes to Kansas City's shortstop Christopher Yoon. In 114 at bats he hit .360 with 7 HR and 26 RBI. Christopher is hitting .303 this year, with 134 hits in 442 at bats. He has driven in 80 runs, slugging .543. It's the 5th time that the National League Batter of the Month award goes to Philadelphia's first baseman Alex Rivera. Rivera helped his team with an average of .388 and 26 RBI in 80 at bats. His season numbers are: .329 AVG, 122 hits, 38 doubles, no triples and 28 taters, along with 90 RBI and 80 runs scored. He's 4th in the National League in batting, 5th in homeruns and 3rd in RBI!

It's the 4th time that the American League Player of the Week award goes to Chicago (A)'s leftfielder Anthony Swinford. In 22 at bats he hit .409 with 4 HR and 10 RBI. Anthony is hitting .283 this year, with 101 hits in 357 at bats. He has driven in 71 runs, slugging .594. The National League's best player of the week was Houston's Joseph Crafts, who wins the award for the 7th time in his career. He hit .542 with 10 RBI and slugged 1.083 in 24 at bats. He got at least one hit each game this week and is on a 7 game hitting streak right now. This year Crafts drove in 69 and scored 69 runs while batting .291 with 19 longballs.
 
Sunday 7/30/2075: Miguel Silva hits for the cycle against Milwaukee
MILWAUKEE - Houston's centerfielder Miguel Silva accomplished a difficult feat in a game against Milwaukee, hitting for the cycle to improve his career batting average to .256! His 1st hit, a two-run homerun off Marcelo Caballero in the 1st inning, cleared the fence in center field. His 2nd hit was a RBI triple off Marcelo Caballero in the 2nd inning. His 3rd hit was a RBI double off Marcelo Caballero in the 4th inning. A single in the 5th off Nicholas Mattos accounted for his 4th hit. That drive completed the cycle, causing a smile on his face! A triple off Robert Bell in the 7th inning, accounted for his 5th hit. Miguel did drive in 5 while scoring 3 runs on his own. He now has a total of 97 hits this season, accounting for a .256 batting average. 311 players in league history have so far hit for the cycle, including Miguel. He suffered a serious injury in a game against Kansas City where he left the field in the 1st inning. Horace was rushed to an hospital near the ballpark, where doctors took x-rays. Those revealed the serious injury, Spasms Back. In 22 starts this year Eugene struck out 70 batters in 115.1 innings of work. His ERA is 5.77, his record 5-8.
 
Monday 7/24/2075: Ramos (OAK) and Twombly (PIT) win P.O.W. award
The American League's best player of the week was Oakland's Alberto Ramos, who wins the award for the 6th time in his career. Alberto went 14 for 27 (.519), while hitting 3 HR and collecting 8 RBI. WASHINGTON - John Patt Jr. led Washington to a 15-11 win over St. Louis by squeezing five hits out of his bat. A pitch from Ivan Ponds in the 1st inning left his bat for a RBI double. That one tied it at 2 runs apiece. A pitch from Ivan Ponds in the 3rd inning left his bat for a two-run homerun, landing 413 feet from home plate in right-center. It tied the ballgame at 5. Number 3 in the 5th inning accounted for a double. In the 7th inning he unloaded a three-run homerun off Ronnie Groves. He had a single in the 6th, driving in one run. SAN FRANCISCO - San Francisco's right-hander James Taylor suffered a severe injury on Saturday and will be out for at least 5-6 weeks. In the 9th of the game against Arizona he experienced pain in his throwing arm and had to leave the game. After x-rays were taken the diagnosis did not surprise many: Ruptured Bicep Tendon. Surgery will be performed next week. James has a record of 3-1 this season, with an ERA of 3.92. In 20.2 Innings he was able to strike out 13 batters.
 
Friday 7/21/2075: Domenic Liao stars with 2000th career hit
CLEVELAND - Domenic Liao got a standing ovation from 13865 fans in Cleveland, who witnessed his 2000th career hit. Along with his 2000 hits, Domenic collected 312 homeruns and 1209 RBI in 16 seasons. 'I'm out of words. I'll probably realize it tomorrow, but for now I'm done.' His hit in the 7th inning was a double off Robert Pantoja.
 
Thursday 7/20/2075: Danny Gilliland homers three times against Los Angeles (N)
ARIZONA - Danny Gilliland was in a groove, and the results spoke for themselves. He powered Arizona to a 9-3 win over Los Angeles (N) by homering three times. His 1st blast, a three-run homerun off Angel Casella in the 1st inning, landed an estimated 395 feet from home plate. A 441 foot drive to center field marked his 2nd bomb, a two-run homerun off Angel Casella in the 3rd inning. In the 5th inning he unloaded a solo homerun off Anthony Jurado. Danny got 3 hits in 4 AB, scoring three times with 6 RBI. So far this season he is batting .260 with 19 homers and 45 RBI.

His hit in the 5th inning was a single off Robert Fergerson. In 18 years of big league action so far, Christopher has compiled a batting average of .301, along with 153 homeruns and 939 RBI. Sunday 7/16/2075: Washington's Bill Griffis gets milestone hit
MILWAUKEE - Washington's Bill Griffis showed a smile on his face after he got his 2000th career hit against Milwaukee on Sunday. He hit a double in the 8th off Nicholas Mattos for number 2000. Along with his 2000 hits, Bill collected 115 homeruns and 867 RBI in 13 seasons. 'Good things happen when you put the bat on the ball.'
 
Monday 7/10/2075: Los Angeles (A)'s Lamela wins Player of the Week award
Los Angeles (A)'s rightfielder Miguel Lamela had some reason to celebrate, as the league named him the American League Player of the Week. He hit .500 with 11 RBI and slugged 1.273 in 22 at bats. The National League's best player of the week was Philadelphia's Alex Rivera, who wins the award for the 7th time in his career. Alex went 8 for 18 (.444), while hitting 3 HR and collecting 12 RBI.

ATLANTA - On Friday, Atlanta's leftfielder Christopher McCardle displayed his sensational ability to handle the bat against Chicago (N), punishing their pitchers with five hits. A pitch from Wenceslao Mota in the 2nd inning left his bat for a solo homerun, landing 436 feet from home plate in center field. That one tied it at 1 runs apiece. He tore up Tampa Bay's pitching staff with a 4 hit performance on Thursday. A pitch from Damien Brisson in the 2nd inning left his bat for a triple. A single in the 4th off Damien Brisson accounted for his 2nd hit. His 3rd hit, a two-run homerun off Damien Brisson in the 8th inning, landed an estimated 349 feet from home plate. His 4th hit was a double off Tory Richart in the 9th inning. That drive completed the cycle, causing a smile on his face! Timothy did drive in 2 while scoring 2 runs on his own. CINCINNATI - Bryan Shaw is a pretty good hitter, but his 4 hit performance seemed to surprise even himself considering that the hits added up to the cycle, one of the most difficult things to accomplish in baseball. A RBI double off Dale Alicea in the 1st inning accounted for his 1st hit. A triple off Dale Alicea in the 6th inning, accounted for his 2nd hit. A 389 foot drive to left-center marked his 3rd hit, a two-run homerun off Douglas McLane in the 8th inning. A single in the 13th off Douglas Wood accounted for his 4th hit. That drive completed the cycle, causing a smile on his face! Bryan did drive in 3 while scoring one run on his own. He is hitting .209 this season, with 10 HR and 39 RBI. He becomes the 309th player in league history collect at least a single, double, triple and a homerun in a single game. On 7/5/2075, Miguel Lamela was the last player to hit for the cycle.

TEXAS - Los Angeles (A)'s rightfielder Miguel Lamela once again displayed his tremendous ability to make contact with that little white ball. He tore up Texas' pitching staff with a 4 hit performance on Wednesday. In the 1st inning he unloaded a solo homerun off Erwin Labastida. Number 2 in the 5th inning accounted for a two-run double. A single in the 6th off Aaron Hock accounted for his 3rd hit. His 4th hit was a triple off Carlos Fernandez in the 9th inning. That drive completed the cycle, causing a smile on his face! Miguel did drive in 5 while scoring 2 runs on his own. He is hitting .269 this season, with 14 HR and 46 RBI. MILWAUKEE - When it rains, it pours. Milwaukee's right-hander Kagerou Daisuke will not pitch for at least 7 weeks, handing the team a huge setback. He suffered a serious injury in a game against Chicago (A) where he left the field in the 1st inning. Doctors examined him after the game and diagnosed a Ruptured Elbow Ligament which will require surgery. This season Daisuke compiled an ERA of 3.56, going 7-3 in 16 starts. He fanned 100 while giving up 69 hits in 93.2 innings.
 
Saturday 7/1/2075: Detroit's Chavez earns Pitcher of the Month award
Jesus Chavez pitched like a legend in June, and the American League named him Pitcher of the Month for his extraordinary performance. He started 6 games in June, going 5-0 and compiling an ERA of 1.28 in 42.1 innings. Jesus fanned 24 hitters. Jesus pitched a shutout as well. This season Chavez compiled an ERA of 3.19, going 8-6 in 17 starts. He fanned 66 while giving up 105 hits in 113 innings. He has one complete game and one shutout. The Batter of the Month award in the National League goes to Florida's Tyrone Redwine this time, as the first baseman displayed the best offensive perfomance in his league. Friday 6/30/2075: San Diego's Carl Conant pounds five hits
SAN DIEGO - Carl Conant punished Colorado's pitching today, collecting five hits in 5 AB. That definitely helped San Diego, they won the game 6 to 3. Number 1 in the 1st inning, a shot estimated at 380 feet, cleared the wall in right field. A pitch from James Hudson in the 8th inning left his bat for a solo homerun, landing 411 feet from home plate in right-center. He collected singles in the 3rd (one RBI) , in the 5th and in the 6th . CHICAGO (N) - Great days are rare. But not for Cleveland's right-hander Manuel Duran. Chicago (N) found out the hard way that he is among the leagues top pitchers, getting just 2 hits. It's his 1st shutout this season, and the 4th time he has done it in his career. Duran (7-8) struck out an astounding 13 and walked 1, throwing 69 of 114 pitches for strikes. 'I felt early that I was on top of my game. Fortunately I was able to keep that feeling the entire game.' Boris Pilon helped Duran at the plate, he finished with 4 hits in 5 AB, doubling once, scoring three runs. Cleveland scored 12 runs on 14 hits.
 
Wednesday 6/28/2075: Gustavo Valdivieso fires 2-hitter against Philadelphia
TAMPA BAY - It was a great day for Tampa Bay's left-hander Gustavo Valdivieso. The 27-year old recorded his first career shutout, a 2-hitter, against Philadelphia on Wednesday. Valdivieso (6-7) fanned 3 and walked 2, throwing 109 pitches. 'My catcher called a very good game. I have to give credit to him.' Antonio Diez helped Valdivieso at the plate, he finished with 2 hits in 3 AB, going deep twice, scoring twice and driving in 5 runs. His face showed signs of pain immediately after the ball left his hand. Doctors examined him after the game and diagnosed a Pulled Rotator Cuff Muscle which will require surgery. Sunday 6/25/2075: Dennis Sanderson (CHN) will miss 5 weeks
CHICAGO (N) - Chicago (N)'s Dennis Sanderson suffered a serious injury Sunday in a game against Cleveland. Sanderson fell down while running the bases and couldn't get up without help. He will miss probably 5 weeks. Torn Groin Muscle was the diagnosis after x-rays were taken in a nearby hospital. The message shocked teammates and team officials. Dennis is hitting .242 this year, with 64 hits in 265 at bats. He has driven in 41 runs, slugging .517.
 
Friday 6/23/2075: Jared Gant blanks Los Angeles (A) with a 2-hitter
ARIZONA - Arizona's right-hander Jared Gant is a great pitcher. And he once again showed his stuff, blanking Los Angeles (A) on just 2 hits. It's his 1st shutout this season, and the 10th time he has done it in his career. The bid for a no-hitter was broken up when Shawn Webber singled with two outs in the 5th inning. 'Hey, that's my job! Everytime I take the mound I give the best I can. And my best stuff was too much for them today.' Gant (7-3) was overpowering, fanning 10 while walking 1, throwing 96 pitches. Kieth Smith provided Arizona with the offense Gant needed as he went 4 for 5, hitting 2 doubles, scoring two runs and driving in 3 runs. Arizona improved its record to 40-34, scoring 12 runs on 18 hits.
 
Friday 6/23/2075: Los Angeles (A)'s Quintero severely injured
LOS ANGELES (A) - Los Angeles (A) is without its right-hander Antonio Quintero for at least 4 weeks. He injured himself while throwing a pitch to Pio Mota in a game against Arizona. His face showed signs of pain immediately after the ball left his hand. After being examined by several specialists the diagnosis is clear: Ruptured Elbow Ligament. Antonio has a record of 10-2 this season, with an ERA of 3.46. In 109.1 Innings he was able to strike out 91 batters. He's 5th in the American League in ERA and 2nd in wins!

LOS ANGELES (A) - San Diego beat Los Angeles (A) 7-3, but that was not the real story of the game. Russell Cudjoe was, as he went deep three times. His 1st shot, a two-run homerun off Pablo Romay in the 1st inning, cleared the fence in center field. His 2nd shot, off Pablo Romay in the 3rd inning, was a solo homerun and cleared the fence in center field. His 3rd blast, a solo homerun off Pablo Romay in the 5th inning, landed an estimated 365 feet from home plate. Overall he finished 3 for 4, with three runs scored and collecting 4 RBI.
 
Monday 6/12/2075: Philadelphia's Latta wins Player of the Week award
Baltimore's rightfielder James Mattoon had some reason to celebrate, as the league named him the American League Player of the Week. SAN DIEGO - San Diego's southpaw Robert Campbell experienced probably the worst case scenario for a pitcher, a season ending injury. After pitching in the 5th inning of the game against New York (N), Campbell complained about serious pain in his throwing arm. He had to leave the game. San Diego wasted no time and rushed him to an hospital. Team officials were informed later that Campbell had suffered a Torn Tricep Muscle. In 14 starts this year Robert struck out 68 batters in 105.1 innings of work. His ERA is 4.36, his record 4-4. Robert has pitched one shutout and 4 complete games.
 
Saturday 6/10/2075: Boston's Smith out for 6-7 weeks
BOSTON - Boston's right-hander Jason Smith suffered a severe injury on Saturday and will be out for at least 6-7 weeks. In the 9th of the game against Minnesota he experienced pain in his throwing arm and had to leave the game. After x-rays were taken the diagnosis did not surprise many: Bone Chips Shoulder. Surgery will be performed next week. His ERA of 1.71 helped him to a 3-1 record this year. He struck out 28 and walked 10 in 31.2 innings.

ATLANTA - Atlanta's season has taken a hit after one of their best players, shortstop Howard Peer, injured himself while rounding a base. He is likely to miss 4 weeks. After x-rays were taken the diagnosis did not surprise many: Strained Back Muscle. Surgery will be performed next week. Peer has walked 32 times this year and posts a .346 OBP. While batting .255, 59 for 231, he has driven in 33 runs.
 
Friday 6/9/2075: Eddy Olmo punishes Chicago (A) with four hits, cycle
CHICAGO (A) - Eddy Olmo is a pretty good hitter, but his 4 hit performance seemed to surprise even himself considering that the hits added up to the cycle, one of the most difficult things to accomplish in baseball. A single in the 2nd off Stephen Conley accounted for his 1st hit. In the 6th inning he unloaded a triple off Stephen Conley. His 3rd hit, a solo homerun off John Greenly in the 7th inning, landed an estimated 401 feet from home plate. A double off Francis Ortega in the 9th inning accounted for his 4th hit. That drive completed the cycle, causing a smile on his face! Eddy scored 2 runs, and he collected one RBI as well! He is hitting .272 this season, with 17 HR and 41 RBI. 307 players in league history have so far hit for the cycle, including Eddy. Mark Dougan was the last player to hit for the cycle, doing it 5/3/2075.

CHICAGO (N) - Chicago (N)'s ace Joseph Burd suffered a severe injury on Thursday and will be out for at least 5 weeks. In the 5th of the game against Milwaukee he experienced pain in his throwing arm and had to leave the game. Burd was rushed to an hospital near the ballpark, where doctors took x-rays. Those revealed the serious injury, Strained Rotator Cuff Muscle. Opposing players hit .236 against Joseph this season. Tuesday 6/6/2075: Michael Hosmer stars with 500th career homerun
TORONTO - Michael Hosmer got a standing ovation from 37866 fans in Toronto, who witnessed his historic 500th career homerun. In 12 years of big league action so far, Michael has compiled a batting average of .291, along with 1766 hits and 1323 RBI. Michael hit 30+ homeruns in a season 9 times, hitting 40 bombs 6 times. 'Good things happen when you put the bat on the ball.' He hit number 500 in the 8th inning, a shot estimated at 384 feet which cleared the wall in left field. The Hall of Fame already has reserved a place for this great player.

He now has 3 career shutouts in 160 games started. Kim (5-3) fanned 6 and walked 2, throwing 102 pitches. 'That was one of the best games of my career. I had my stuff working very well today.' The hitting star for San Diego was rightfielder Fernando Suarez, he finished 3 for 3, hitting two dingers, scoring twice and collecting 3 RBI. BALTIMORE - James Mattoon led Baltimore to a 13-12 win over New York (A) by squeezing five hits out of his bat. In the 2nd inning he belted a double off Randy Peets Jr.. Number 2 in the 4th inning, a shot estimated at 413 feet, cleared the wall in right-center. The game was tied, 2-2, after the blast. A pitch from Randy Peets Jr. in the 5th inning left his bat for a double. Hit number 4 followed in the 7th inning, a triple. ATLANTA - William Evans was in a groove, and the results spoke for themselves. He powered Arizona to a 5-1 win over Atlanta by homering three times. A 383 foot drive to left field marked his 1st bomb, a solo homerun off Robert Victor in the 2nd inning. His 2nd shot, a two-run homerun off Robert Victor in the 6th inning, cleared the fence in left field. A pitch from Robert Fergerson in the 8th inning left his bat for a solo homerun, landing 409 feet from home plate in left field. William went 3 for 4, scoring three times with 4 RBI. His homerun total this year is 17, along with 46 RBI. It's pretty obvious that he will enter the Hall of Fame some day!

PITTSBURGH - Pittsburgh beat San Diego 11-8, but that was not the real story of the game. Michael Wiles was, as he went deep three times. COLORADO - Colorado's right-hander Albert Wright experienced probably the worst case scenario for a pitcher, a season ending injury. After pitching in the 3rd inning of the game against Houston, Wright complained about serious pain in his throwing arm. He had to leave the game. Colorado wasted no time and rushed him to an hospital. Team officials were informed later that Wright had suffered a Torn Bicep Muscle. His ERA of 4.02 helped him to a 5-3 record this year. He struck out 85 and walked 43 in 65 innings.

HOUSTON - Houston's right-hander Henry Haight suffered a severe injury on Friday and will be out for at least 8-9 weeks. In the 3rd of the game against Detroit he experienced pain in his throwing arm and had to leave the game. After being taken to a local hospital, Haight was examined by specialists. The diagnosis revealed the sad truth, a Herniated Disc Back. This season Haight compiled an ERA of 6.08, going 1-4 in 9 starts. He fanned 32 while giving up 41 hits in 40 innings.

CINCINNATI - Hitting homeruns is one of the most difficult things in sports. To hit four of them in one game is almost sensational. Florida's leftfielder Stephen Hickey accomplished that feat in a 16-3 win over Cincinnati. In the 2nd inning he unloaded a two-run homerun off James Alcala. Number 2 in the 4th inning, a shot estimated at 421 feet, cleared the wall in right-center. Saturday 5/13/2075: Gordon Wickstrom (LAA) will miss 4-5 weeks
LOS ANGELES (A) - Los Angeles (A)'s season has taken a hit after one of their best players, centerfielder Gordon Wickstrom, injured himself while rounding a base. He is likely to miss 4-5 weeks. After x-rays were taken the diagnosis did not surprise many: Inflamed Posterior Cruciate Ligament. Surgery will be performed next week. Wickstrom has walked 12 times this year and posts a .379 OBP. While batting .317, 38 for 120, he has driven in 15 runs.
 
Tuesday 5/9/2075: Jesus Mazza out for 8 weeks
CHICAGO (A) - Los Angeles (A)'s Pablo Romay drilled Chicago (A)'s first baseman Jesus Mazza in the 1st inning. He was slow getting up and had to leave the game. Jesus Mazza will miss at least 8 weeks. Mazza was rushed to an hospital near the ballpark, where doctors took x-rays. Those revealed the serious injury, Broken Wrist. Mazza has walked 8 times this year and posts a .384 OBP. While batting .331, 41 for 124, he has driven in 28 runs. He's 8th in the American League in RBIs and 2nd in homeruns!
 
Monday 5/8/2075: Minnesota's Liao wins Player of the Week award
The Player of the Week award in the American League goes to Minnesota's Domenic Liao this time, as the centerfielder displayed the best offensive perfomance in his league. Domenic went 11 for 22 (.500), while hitting 3 HR and collecting 7 RBI. His season features a batting average of .295 (31 hits in 105 AB), 10 doubles, one triple and 6 bombs. Liao collected 33 RBI and 17 runs as well. The Player of the Week award in the National League goes to San Diego's Christopher Dorrough this time, as the centerfielder displayed the best offensive perfomance in his league. Dorrough helped his team with an average of .467 and 12 RBI in 30 at bats. Dorrough has hit 11 taters this year while batting .363. He adds 5 doubles, along with 22 runs scored. He's 1st in the National League in batting!
 
Wednesday 5/3/2075: Mark Dougan punishes Los Angeles (A) with four hits, cycle
KANSAS CITY - Kansas City's second baseman Mark Dougan once again displayed his tremendous ability to make contact with that little white ball. He tore up Los Angeles (A)'s pitching staff with a 4 hit performance on Wednesday. His 1st hit was a triple off Steven Moore in the 1st inning. A pitch from Steven Moore in the 3rd inning left his bat for a two-run homerun, landing 362 feet from home plate in right field. A double off Steven Moore in the 5th inning accounted for his 3rd hit. A single in the 6th off Yasuo Juro accounted for his 4th hit. That drive completed the cycle, causing a smile on his face! Mark scored 4 runs, and he collected 3 RBI as well! He is hitting .224 this season, with 6 HR and 17 RBI. He becomes the 306th player in league history collect at least a single, double, triple and a homerun in a single game. On 9/30/2074, Robert Lawson was the last player to hit for the cycle.
 
Monday 5/1/2075: Santiago (LAA) and Garza (CIN) win monthly pitcher award
It's the 1st time that the American League Pitcher of the Month award goes to Los Angeles (A)'s pitcher Reinaldo Santiago. He struck out 46 hitters in his 6 starts, putting together a record of 4-0 while pitching 46 innings. His ERA in April was 1.10. It's the 3rd time that the National League Pitcher of the Month award goes to Cincinnati's pitcher Abel Garza. His record of 3-1 in 5 was among the leagues best this month. In 40 innings of work he allowed just 25 hits while striking out 48, compiling an ERA of just 1.80. Abel pitched a shutout as well.

Toronto's rightfielder Dallas Lasseter had some reason to celebrate, as the league named him the American League Batter of the Month. Lasseter helped his team with an average of .365 and 33 RBI in 96 at bats. The Batter of the Month award in the National League goes to Philadelphia's Carlos Garcia this time, as the centerfielder displayed the best offensive perfomance in his league. Carlos went 37 for 98 (.378), while hitting 10 HR and collecting 29 RBI.
 
Monday 5/1/2075: Cintron (CLE) and Garza (CIN) win P.O.W. award
The American League's best player of the week was Cleveland's Martin Cintron, who wins the award for the 2nd time in his career. Martin went 12 for 24 (.500), while hitting 5 HR and collecting 11 RBI. He hit in every game this week and extended his hitting streak to 10 games. Cincinnati's pitcher Abel Garza had some reason to celebrate as well, as the league named him the National League Player of the Week. Garza was overpowering all week long, going 2-0 with an ERA of 0.00. Along the way he struck out 19 in 17.2 innings. He hurled a shutout as well. Abel has a record of 3-1 this season, with an ERA of 1.80. In 40 Innings he was able to strike out 48 batters. He has one complete game and one shutout.
 
Monday 4/24/2075: Richard Nicholls ropes 2000th career hit
TEXAS - Texas' players had every reason to congratulate Richard Nicholls, who reached a milestone today, collecting his 2000th career hit! He hit a double in the 4th off Kenneth Baumeister for number 2000. His best year so far was 2069 where he hit .316 with 40 homeruns and 133 RBI. 'Good things happen when you put the bat on the ball.'
 
Monday 4/24/2075: Valdejuli (KCA) and Dorrough (SDN) win P.O.W. award
The American League's best player of the week was Kansas City's Alfonzo Valdejuli, who wins the award for the 3rd time in his career. He had an on base percentage of .485 and hit .414, while driving in 9 runs. It's the 3rd time that the National League Player of the Week award goes to San Diego's centerfielder Christopher Dorrough. Christopher was on fire, hitting .407 with 4 HR and 7 RBI.
 
Sunday 4/23/2075: Pedro Miramontes out for 6 weeks
BOSTON - When it rains, it pours. Boston's right-hander Pedro Miramontes will not pitch for at least 6 weeks, handing the team a huge setback. He suffered a serious injury in a game against Baltimore where he left the field in the 9th inning. Pulled Bicep Muscle was the diagnosis after x-rays were taken in a nearby hospital. The message shocked teammates and team officials. Pedro has a record of 0-1 this season, with an ERA of 4.15. In 8.2 Innings he was able to strike out 8 batters.
 
Friday 4/21/2075: Junior Estevez pitches 1-hit shutout against Colorado
SAN FRANCISCO - It was a great day for San Francisco's right-hander Junior Estevez. The 20-year old recorded his first career shutout, a 1-hitter, against Colorado on Friday. Larry Shorter spoiled the bid for a no-hitter when he singled with one out in the 7th inning. 'That was one of the best games of my career. I had my stuff working very well today.' Estevez (2-0) struck out 5 and issued 1 BB, throwing 54 of 91 pitches for strikes. Alfred Trevino provided San Francisco with the offense Estevez needed as he collected 2 hits in 4 trips to the plate, hitting a homerun, scoring 2 runs. The final score of the game was 4-0.
 
Wednesday 4/19/2075: It's NO-NO time for Aaron Rodriguez against Houston
PITTSBURGH - Pittsburgh's left-hander Aaron Rodriguez is a really great pitcher. And he once again showed his stuff while making history, blanking Houston on no hits. Rodriguez (3-0) struck out 6 and issued 2 BB, throwing 72 of 129 pitches for strikes. 'I really like to play baseball, and I love the way I was able to play it today. I still cannot believe I did it.' Brian Sandridge provided Pittsburgh with the offense Rodriguez needed as he finished 1 for 3, hitting a double. Pittsburgh scored 1 run on 5 hits.
 
Wednesday 4/19/2075: Gino Runkle out for 5 weeks
TAMPA BAY - Tampa Bay's players were scared when they had to watch Gino Runkle suffer a serious injury when he dove for a ball in the game against Baltimore. He collapsed in pain and was helped off the field. Runkle will probaby miss 5 weeks. After being examined by several specialists the diagnosis is clear: Fractured Ulna. While compiling an on base percentage of .306, Gino hit .259 and slugged .397. He has collected 7 runs batted in this year.
 
Monday 4/17/2075: Minnesota's Frisbie wins Player of the Week award
It's the 1st time that the American League Player of the Week award goes to Minnesota's pitcher Willie Frisbie. Willie went 2-0 with an ERA of 2.30, while fanning 10 in 15.2 innings of work. He hurled a shutout as well. The National League's best player of the week was Pittsburgh's Luis Ornelas, who wins the award for the 1st time in his career. Ornelas helped his team with an average of .375 and 6 RBI in 24 at bats. He now has homered in 4 consecutive games as well!
 
Friday 4/14/2075: David Pham collects 2000th hit against Cleveland
KANSAS CITY - Kansas City's players had every reason to congratulate David Pham, who reached a milestone today, collecting his 2000th career hit! His hit in the 11th inning was a single off Robert Pantoja. His best year so far was 2072 where he hit .310 with 4 homeruns and 72 RBI. 'My firends always told me that I will do it one day. I never believed it. Good that I was wrong!'
 
Wednesday 4/12/2075: Boston's Jim Abney has great day with six hits
TORONTO - 'Wow, six hits in one game is something special, isn't it?' said Boston's centerfielder Jim Abney after the 17-3 win over Toronto. A double off Amadeo Cifuentes in the 1st inning accounted for his 1st hit. His 2nd hit was a two-run double off Amadeo Cifuentes in the 1st inning. His 4th hit was a two-run double off James Hudson in the 5th inning. He collected singles in the 4th inning , in the 7th and in the 9th inning . Jim did drive in 4 while scoring 4 runs on his own. This season has been a good one for him so far, as he has 14 hits in 38 at bats, resulting in a .368 batting average.
 
Monday 4/10/2075: Adelardo Pedrosa pitches his 1st shutout of the season
ATLANTA - Florida's right-hander Adelardo Pedrosa is clearly one of the best pitchers in the game. Atlanta found out the hard way, getting just one hit. Pedrosa 1st shutout this season was a masterpiece, as he was almost untouchable. He has now hurled 31st shutouts in his career. Pedrosa (2-0) fanned 7 and walked 2, throwing 121 pitches. 'I felt early that I was on top of my game. Fortunately I was able to keep that feeling the entire game.' Vicente Vieira provided Florida with the offense Pedrosa needed as he went 3 for 5, blasting a homerun, and collecting 3 RBI. Florida scored 5 runs on 10 hits.
 
Monday 4/10/2075: Florida's Adelardo Pedrosa wins #300
ATLANTA - Florida's right-hander Adelardo Pedrosa gained immortality by recording his 300th win in the big leagues. Pedrosa went 9 innings. He allowed 0 earned runs , giving up 1 hit while striking out 2 and walking 0 earned runs. He has enmassed 3348 K's in 3626 career innings so far, and posts a 2.56 lifetime ERA. 'I still remember my first win. But the one today is something special. I'll definitely keep it in my heart!' He has won 20 games 6 times in his career, setting a career high with 28 wins in 2073. The Hall of Fame is already waiting for this great player.
 
Monday 4/10/2075: Player of the Week honors go to Mazza and Juichi

Jesus pounded opposing pitchers, hitting .421 with 5 HR and 12 RBI while slugging 1.263. San Francisco's shortstop Tsuruki Juichi had some reason to celebrate as well, as the league named him the National League Player of the Week. In 25 at bats he hit .480 with 2 HR and 10 RBI.
 
Sunday 4/9/2075: St. Louis has no chance in a 1-hitter by Raymond Bare
ST. LOUIS - Philadelphia's lefty Raymond Bare is a great pitcher. And he once again showed his stuff, blanking St. Louis on just one hit. It's his 1st shutout this season, and the 6th time he has done it in his career. Bare (2-0) was overpowering, fanning 12 while walking none, throwing 108 pitches. 'I was able to keep´em off balance. That certainly helped.' Philadelphia's rightfielder Willie Brogan went 3 for 5, blasting a homerun, scoring twice with 3 RBI. That was enough to support the brilliant performance of Bare. Philadelphia scored 10 runs on 13 hits.
 
Friday 4/7/2075: Tsuruki Juichi punishes San Diego with five hits
SAN DIEGO - On Friday, San Francisco's shortstop Tsuruki Juichi displayed his sensational ability to handle the bat against San Diego, punishing their pitchers with five hits. A 397 foot drive to left-center marked his 1st hit, a three-run homerun off William Restrepo in the 1st inning. Hit number 2 followed in the 2nd inning, a triple. He collected singles in the 4th , in the 8th (one RBI) and in the 9th (one RBI). Tsuruki scored 3 runs, and he collected 5 RBI as well! He's having a very good season so far, batting .563. San Francisco scored 14 runs on 16 hits.
