Monday 9/18/2082: Washington's Desilva wins Player of the Week award
The Player of the Week award in the American League goes to Toronto's Jesus Baeza this time, as the catcher displayed the best offensive perfomance in his league. Jesus was on fire, hitting .600 with 5 HR and 12 RBI. Jesus managed to drive in at least one run in every game he played this week. His season features a batting average of .312 (151 hits in 484 AB), 36 doubles, 3 triples and 25 taters. Baeza collected 85 RBI and 77 runs as well. He's 6th in the American League in batting! It's the 1st time that the National League Player of the Week award goes to Washington's centerfielder Claudio Desilva. He had an on base percentage of .593 and hit .565, while driving in 9 runs.
 
Saturday 9/16/2082: San Francisco's Tsuruki Juichi laces 2000th career hit
SAN FRANCISCO - San Francisco's Tsuruki Juichi showed a smile on his face after he got his 2000th career hit against Arizona on Saturday. With one out in the 7th inning, Tsuruki drilled a double, causing a standing ovation from the crowd. His best year so far was 2075 where he hit .309 with 24 homeruns and 104 RBI. 'This day is special, I'll probably remember it my whole life. Thank god I'm blessed with the talent to play this game.'
 
Saturday 9/16/2082: Mary Rankin stars with 2000th career hit
ST. LOUIS - St. Louis' leftfielder Mary Rankin was in good mood after the game against Florida, and he had every reason as he made some history while collecting his 2000th career hit. Along with his 2000 hits, Mary collected 382 homeruns and 1306 RBI in 13 seasons. 'My firends always told me that I will do it one day. I never believed it. Good that I was wrong!' His hit in the 6th inning was a single off Travis Cannon.
 
Friday 9/15/2082: Tampa Bay's Fred Sutton mashes five hits
BOSTON - Tampa Bay's centerfielder Fred Sutton accomplished a difficult feat in a 21-4 win over Boston, drilling five hits to improve his career batting average to .208! His 1st hit was a RBI double off James Karsten in the 1st inning. A 429 foot drive to center field marked his 2nd hit, a solo homerun off James Karsten in the 3rd inning. His 5th hit, a two-run homerun off Walter Henson in the 7th inning, cleared the fence in right field. He collected singles in the 5th inning (one RBI) and in the 5th inning (one RBI). Fred scored 5 runs, and he collected 6 RBI as well! He now has a total of 117 hits this season, accounting for a .224 batting average. The final score of the game was 21-4.
 
Friday 9/15/2082: Minnesota's Sanchez severely injured
MINNESOTA - Minnesota's first baseman Juan Sanchez will miss at least 7 weeks after he got hurt seriously while running hard toward second base. He began limping and then fell down, causing a scary moment for his teammates. He had to be carried off the field. Sanchez was rushed to an hospital near the ballpark, where doctors took x-rays. Those revealed the serious injury, Strained Anterior Cruciate Ligament. Juan has gone 161 for 564 (.285) this season, hitting 37 longballs and driving in 98 runs. He has scored 103 runs on his own. He's 9th in the American League in RBIs and 3rd in homeruns!
 
Thursday 9/14/2082: New York (A)'s Diez out for the season
NEW YORK (A) - New York (A)'s rightfielder Oswaldo Diez will miss the rest of the season. He injured himself running the bases in the game between New York (A) and Tampa Bay. The injury didn't seem to be serious the moment it happened. But suddenly Diez collapsed in pain and had to be carried off the field. Diez was rushed to an hospital near the ballpark, where doctors took x-rays. Those revealed the serious injury, Torn Abdominal Muscle. Diez has hit 19 homeruns this year while batting .272. He adds 30 doubles, along with 68 runs scored.
 
Monday 9/11/2082: Osvaldo Enos out for 4-5 weeks
PITTSBURGH - Pittsburgh's right-hander Osvaldo Enos suffered a severe injury on Monday and will be out for at least 4-5 weeks. In the 1st of the game against St. Louis he experienced pain in his throwing arm and had to leave the game. After x-rays were taken the diagnosis did not surprise many: Herniated Disc Back. Surgery will be performed next week. His ERA of 5.21 helped him to a 4-6 record this year. He struck out 118 and walked 16 in 105.1 innings.
 
Monday 9/11/2082: Player of the Week honors go to Hamlet and Hernandez
Michael Hamlet of Cleveland wins his 1st Player of the Week award for dominating American League's hitters the entire week. He was in a zone all week, compiling an ERA of 1.93 while going 2-0. His ERA of 5.45 helped him to a 8-10 record this year. He struck out 116 and walked 52 in 152 innings. New York (N)'s third baseman Alberto Hernandez had some reason to celebrate as well, as the league named him the National League Player of the Week. Hernandez helped his team with an average of .476 and 4 RBI in 21 at bats. This year Hernandez drove in 71 and scored 55 runs while batting .238 with 14 homeruns.
 
Sunday 9/10/2082: Minnesota's Turnage out for 4 weeks
MINNESOTA - Minnesota's right-hander Robert Turnage suffered a severe injury on Sunday and will be out for at least 4 weeks. In the 9th of the game against Tampa Bay he experienced pain in his throwing arm and had to leave the game. Doctors examined him after the game and diagnosed a Strained Rotator Cuff Muscle which will require surgery. Opposing players hit .285 against Robert this season. While posting an ERA of 6.86 he went 0-9 in 0 starts, fanning 53 and walking 28 hitters.
 
Saturday 9/9/2082: Alex Rivera slams 600th homerun
TORONTO - Texas' first baseman Alex Rivera already had some highlights in his career, and today he added a historic one, unloading for his 600th career homerun. Along with his 600 homeruns, Alex collected 2320 hits and 1918 RBI in 14 seasons. Alex hit 30+ homeruns in a season 12 times, hitting 40 bombs 8 times. 'I guess I'll celebrate a bit today. But the most important thing is winning, and my whole career I gave everything I could to help my team.' A pitch from Wendell Crosswhite in the 9th inning left his bat for a GRAND SLAM, landing 441 feet from home plate in center field. The Hall of Fame already has reserved a place for this great player.
 
Wednesday 9/6/2082: Jonathan Perez quiets Cincinnati bats with shutout
CINCINNATI - Great days are rare. But not for San Francisco's right-hander Jonathan Perez. Cincinnati found out the hard way that he is among the leagues top pitchers, getting just 2 hits. It's his 1st shutout this season, and the 2nd time he has done it in his career. 'Today I just felt fine. I had a good feeling while warming up.' Perez (11-9) struck out 5 and issued 1 BB, throwing 65 of 112 pitches for strikes. The hitting star for San Francisco was catcher Andrew Bob, he stroked 2 hits in 4 AB, and driving in 4 runs. San Francisco scored 6 runs on 7 hits.
 
Monday 9/4/2082: Sermons and Okelley win Player of the Week award
The American League Player of the Week award goes to James Sermons, Kansas City's starting centerfielder. In 25 at bats he hit .520 with 1 HR and 5 RBI. This year Sermons drove in 74 and scored 84 runs while batting .277 with 19 homeruns. The National League Player of the Week award goes to Richard Okelley, Florida's starting centerfielder. He hit .370 with 11 RBI and slugged 1.111 in 27 at bats.
 
Saturday 9/2/2082: Gerald Murphy shuts out Philadelphia on 2 hits
ST. LOUIS - Philadelphia's bats were sleeping, and St. Louis' Gerald Murphy gave them no chance to wake up. He gave up just 2 hits in recording his 1st shutout of the season. Murphy (13-11) was overpowering, fanning 11 while walking 3, throwing 119 pitches. 'Giving my team a chance to win is the most important thing for me. I was able to do it today.' Mary Rankin provided St. Louis with the offense Murphy needed as he collected 2 hits in 4 trips to the plate, stroking a double, and collecting 3 RBI. St. Louis improved its record to 71-65, scoring 5 runs on 9 hits.
 
Friday 9/1/2082: Michael Taylor (PIT) will miss 5 weeks
PITTSBURGH - Pittsburgh is without its ace Michael Taylor for at least 5 weeks. He injured himself while throwing a pitch to Alberto Villaran in a game against Houston. His face showed signs of pain immediately after the ball left his hand. Inflamed Rotator Cuff Muscle was the diagnosis after x-rays were taken in a nearby hospital. The message shocked teammates and team officials. This season Taylor compiled an ERA of 2.63, going 21-4 in 31 starts. He fanned 234 while giving up 166 hits in 226 innings. Michael has pitched one shutout and 6 complete games. He's 6th in the National League in ERA and 1st in wins!
 
Friday 9/1/2082: Florida's Ibarra named Pitcher of the Month
Winner of this months American League Pitcher of the Month award is Texas' Michael Polzin. His record of 4-0 in 6 was among the leagues best this month. In 47 innings of work he allowed just 24 hits while striking out 56, compiling an ERA of just 1.53. Michael also fired a shutout. Michael has a record of 19-3 this season, with an ERA of 2.07. In 213.1 Innings he was able to strike out 252 batters. He has one complete game and one shutout. He's 2nd in the American League in ERA and 2nd in wins! Florida's pitcher Sergio Ibarra is the National League winner of the Pitcher of the Month award in August. His ERA of just 0.68 helped him to a 5-0 record in August. He worked 53 innings, striking out 65 hitters while walking 8. Sergio pitched a shutout as well. Opposing players hit .230 against Sergio this season. The American League's best player of the month was Chicago (A)'s Baltasar Velazquez, who wins the award for the 3rd time in his career. Baltasar went 39 for 92 (.424), while hitting 5 HR and collecting 23 RBI. Baltasar has gone 148 for 481 (.308) this season, hitting 11 taters and driving in 94 runs. He has scored 59 runs on his own. He's 8th in the American League in batting and 5th in RBI! Richard Okelley of Florida wins his 2nd Batter of the Month award for putting up the best numbers in the National League. Richard pounded opposing pitchers, hitting .314 with 9 and 33 RBI while slugging .724. Richard is hitting .300 this year, with 143 hits in 476 at bats. He has driven in 104 runs, slugging .624. He's 2nd in the National League in RBIs and 6th in homeruns!
 
Thursday 8/31/2082: Richard Okelley uncorks five hits against Washington
WASHINGTON - On Thursday, Florida's centerfielder Richard Okelley displayed his sensational ability to handle the bat against Washington, punishing their pitchers with five hits. In the 1st inning he belted a double off Heriberto Cruz. A two-run double off Heriberto Cruz in the 2nd inning accounted for his 2nd hit. Number 3 in the 4th inning, a shot estimated at 426 feet, cleared the wall in left field. A pitch from Ivan Manrique in the 7th inning left his bat for a RBI triple. LOS ANGELES (N) - Los Angeles (N)'s ace Edmundo Desilva suffered a severe injury on Wednesday and will be out for at least 7 weeks. In the 5th of the game against Philadelphia he experienced pain in his throwing arm and had to leave the game. After x-rays were taken the diagnosis did not surprise many: Pulled Rotator Cuff Muscle. Surgery will be performed next week. His ERA of 3.84 helped him to a 8-8 record this year. He struck out 170 and walked 48 in 176 innings.
 
Monday 8/28/2082: Boston's Tijerina wins Player of the Week award
The American League Player of the Week award goes to Pedro Tijerina, Boston's starting leftfielder. In 26 at bats he hit .500 with 5 HR and 13 RBI. He hit in every game this week and extended his hitting streak to 7 games. The Player of the Week award in the National League goes to Chicago (N)'s Christopher Adams this time, as the third baseman displayed the best offensive perfomance in his league. Christopher was on fire, hitting .455 with 5 HR and 17 RBI.
 
Sunday 8/27/2082: Seattle's Pedro Garcia wins #300
SEATTLE - Seattle's players had every reason to congratulate Pedro Garcia, who reached a milestone today, winning his 300th game! Garcia allowed one earned run while striking out 8 and walking 1 in 7.2 innings of work. His career features a 2.71 ERA, along with 3734 K's in 3784 innings. He set a career high with 27 wins in 2079. Garcia won 20 or more games a season 8 times. 'I guess I'll celebrate a bit today. But the most important thing is winning, and my whole career I gave everything I could to help my team.' It's no secret that he will one day be in the Hall of Fame! The number he has put up are well worth it.

He suffered a serious injury in a game against Cincinnati where he left the field in the 3rd inning. After being taken to a local hospital, Gomez was examined by specialists. The diagnosis revealed the sad truth, a Herniated Disc Back. Opposing players hit .175 against Cristian this season. NEW YORK (N) - Atlanta's centerfielder Benny Frias accomplished a difficult feat in a 9-3 win over New York (N), drilling five hits to improve his career batting average to .273! In the 3rd inning he unloaded a solo homerun off Cornelius Ruth. A double off Gustavo Olvera in the 5th inning accounted for his 3rd hit. In the 7th inning he belted a double off Gustavo Olvera. He collected singles in the 1st (one RBI) and in the 9th . Benny did drive in 2 while scoring one run on his own. He is hitting .256 this season, with 9 HR and 50 RBI. KANSAS CITY - Kansas City's first baseman William Coelho once again displayed his tremendous ability to make contact with that little white ball. He tore up Detroit's pitching staff with a 5 hit performance on Wednesday. A single in the 1st off Jeffrey Nesmith accounted for his 1st hit. A double off Jeffrey Nesmith in the 3rd inning accounted for his 2nd hit. A single in the 5th off Jeffrey Nesmith accounted for his 3rd hit. His 4th hit, a two-run homerun off Esteban Martinez in the 6th inning, landed an estimated 453 feet from home plate. His 5th hit was a triple off John Riccardi in the 8th inning. In 12 years of big league action so far, Douglas has compiled a batting average of .289, along with 231 homeruns and 1117 RBI. 'Wow. That is all I can say now. I'm thrilled.' FLORIDA - Florida's season has taken a hit after one of their best players, leftfielder Juan Principato, injured himself while rounding a base. He is likely to miss 9-10 weeks. After x-rays were taken the diagnosis did not surprise many: Broken Ankle. Surgery will be performed next week. This year Principato drove in 76 and scored 54 runs while batting .234 with 24 bombs.

LOS ANGELES (A) - Timothy Addis punished Los Angeles (A)'s pitching today, collecting five hits in 5 AB. That definitely helped Toronto, they won the game 6 to 1. SAN DIEGO - St. Louis' right-hander Jon Weeden is a great pitcher. And he once again showed his stuff, blanking San Diego on just 2 hits. It's his 2nd shutout this season, and the 3rd time he has done it in his career. The bid for a no-hitter was broken up when Michael Hosmer singled with no outs in the 7th inning. 'Hey, that's my job! Everytime I take the mound I give the best I can. And my best stuff was too much for them today.' Weeden (11-7) struck out 8 and walked 1, throwing 64 of 110 pitches for strikes. Marcos Aguero provided St. Louis with the offense Weeden needed as he went 2 for 5, hitting a homerun, with 3 RBI. The final score of the game was 7-0.

SEATTLE - William Garcia hits 'em where they ain't. Seattle certainly agrees as Oakland's centerfielder unloaded five hits and hitting for the cycle. A single in the 1st off Pedro Garcia accounted for his 1st hit. In the 3rd inning he unloaded a solo homerun off Pedro Garcia. A single in the 5th off Pedro Garcia accounted for his 3rd hit. His 4th hit was a triple off Manuel Vieira in the 8th inning. A pitch from James Philson in the 9th inning left his bat for a double. That drive completed the cycle, causing a smile on his face! ARIZONA - Arizona's right-hander William Correa is a great pitcher. And he once again showed his stuff, blanking Washington on just 2 hits. It's his 2nd shutout this season, and the 2nd time he has done it in his career. Correa (9-6) struck out 8 and walked 2, throwing 64 of 113 pitches for strikes. 'That was one of the best games of my career. I had my stuff working very well today.' Martin Cintron provided Arizona with the offense Correa needed as he collected 1 hit in 2 trips to the plate, scoring two runs and driving in 2 runs. The final score of the game was 4-0.
 
Friday 8/4/2082: Larry Shorter blisters three bombs
SAN DIEGO - Larry Shorter beat San Diego, but he did it without mercy, playing like a one man wrecking crew. St. Louis' second baseman slugged three homeruns, once again proving that he is among the elite sluggers. In the 1st inning he unloaded a two-run homerun off Amador Monroy. His 2nd shot, a solo homerun off Amador Monroy in the 3rd inning, cleared the fence in left field. A pitch from Alex Luevano in the 7th inning left his bat for a two-run homerun, landing 388 feet from home plate in right field. Sanchez (13-5) showed excellent control, walking nobody and fanning 3. 'Today I just felt fine. I had a good feeling while warming up.' Pittsburgh's rightfielder Chang Smith went 2 for 4, going deep twice, scoring two runs with 2 RBI. That was enough to support the brilliant performance of Sanchez. Wednesday 7/26/2082: John Blauser pitches his 1st shutout of the season
DETROIT - John Blauser took the mound and never left. And Detroit hitters couldn't touch him at all. Chicago (A)'s left-hander gave up just 2 hits in his 1st shutout of the season. He now has 3 career shutouts in 114 games started. Blauser (7-7) struck out 6 and walked 1, throwing 63 of 111 pitches for strikes. 'I felt early that I was on top of my game. Fortunately I was able to keep that feeling the entire game.' The hitting star for Chicago (A) was designated hitter Toyoaki Makoto, he finished with 1 hit in 4 AB, blasting a homerun, and collecting 2 RBI. Chicago (A) scored 4 runs on 9 hits.
 
Monday 7/24/2082: Clarke (BAL) and King (NYN) win P.O.W. award
Baltimore's centerfielder Scott Clarke had some reason to celebrate, as the league named him the American League Player of the Week. Sunday 7/23/2082: Huge blow for Texas' Estevez, career over
TEXAS - It was one of baseball saddest days. Texas' right-hander Junior Estevez fell victim to a career ending injury in a game against Chicago (A) on Sunday. He complained about pain after throwing a pitch to Alberto Losada, then suddenly collapsed. Torn Rotator Cuff Muscle was the diagnosis after x-rays were taken in a nearby hospital. The message shocked teammates and team officials. His ERA of 4.46 helped him to a 5-5 record this year. He struck out 66 and walked 32 in 70.2 innings. His career featured a record of 93-85 with an ERA of 5.12. Baseball will certainly miss this great player.
 
Wednesday 7/19/2082: Kim Fairchild out for 7 weeks
MILWAUKEE - Milwaukee is without its lefty Kim Fairchild for at least 7 weeks. He injured himself while throwing a pitch to Juan Rumley in a game against St. Louis. His face showed signs of pain immediately after the ball left his hand. After being taken to a local hospital, Fairchild was examined by specialists. The diagnosis revealed the sad truth, a Herniated Disc Back. This season Fairchild compiled an ERA of 2.70, going 1-1 in 0 starts. He fanned 22 while giving up 26 hits in 30 innings.
 
Tuesday 7/18/2082: Aloisio Jimenez (FLO) will miss 5 weeks
FLORIDA - Florida's right-hander Aloisio Jimenez suffered a severe injury on Tuesday and will be out for at least 5 weeks. In the 9th of the game against Arizona he experienced pain in his throwing arm and had to leave the game. Doctors examined him after the game and diagnosed a Bone Chips Elbow which will require surgery. Opposing players hit .206 against Aloisio this season. While posting an ERA of 2.19 he went 3-1 in 0 starts, fanning 53 and walking 20 hitters.
 
Monday 7/17/2082: Mulvaney (MIN) and Hillman (CHN) win P.O.W. award

Sunday 7/16/2082: Ruperto Ordoņez shuts out Atlanta on 2 hits
ARIZONA - Arizona's right-hander Ruperto Ordoņez is a great pitcher. And he once again showed his stuff, blanking Atlanta on just 2 hits. It's his 2nd shutout this season, and the 2nd time he has done it in his career. Ordoņez (8-3) struck out 7 and issued 4 BB, throwing 64 of 107 pitches for strikes. 'I really like to play baseball, and I love the way I was able to play it today.' Arizona's designated hitter Michael Rath stroked 3 hits in 4 AB, hitting a homerun, scoring 2 runs with 4 RBI. That was enough to support the brilliant performance of Ordoņez. Arizona improved its record to 59-32, scoring 15 runs on 16 hits.
 
Friday 7/14/2082: Jeffrey Adkisson turns in great performance against Cleveland
BOSTON - Boston's right-hander Jeffrey Adkisson is a great pitcher. And he once again showed his stuff, blanking Cleveland on just one hit. It's his 2nd shutout this season, and the 6th time he has done it in his career. 'I'll have to give a lot of credit to my catcher. He put all the right fingers down today.' Adkisson (10-6) was overpowering, fanning 12 while walking 1, throwing 104 pitches. Mary Rankin provided Boston with the offense Adkisson needed as he finished 3 for 3, hitting a homerun, stroking two 2B's, scoring FOUR runs and collecting 5 RBI. Boston improved its record to 43-46, scoring 13 runs on 11 hits.
 
Friday 7/14/2082: It's El Perfecto time for Gary Martin against San Francisco
PITTSBURGH - Pittsburgh's right-hander Gary Martin made some history today, firing a perfect game against San Francisco. Their hitters found out the hard way that he is among the leagues top pitchers, never having a chance against his overpowering stuff. The crowd of 38199 gave him a standing ovation when teammates carried him off the field on their shoulders. 'Wow, what a nice day. I guess I had a good breakfast today. That's a dream coming true for me!' Martin (4-2) fanned 8 and walked none, throwing 91 pitches. Roosevelt Donnelly helped Martin at the plate, he went 4 for 5, homering once, doubling once, with 3 RBI. The final score of the game was 7-0.
 
Monday 7/10/2082: Detroit's Luft wins Player of the Week award
The Player of the Week award in the American League goes to Detroit's Michael Luft this time, as the first baseman displayed the best offensive perfomance in his league. Michael was on fire, hitting .458 with 3 HR and 13 RBI. His season numbers are: .332 AVG, 79 hits, 23 doubles, one triple and 8 homeruns, along with 49 RBI and 47 runs scored. He's 6th in the American League in batting! Los Angeles (N)'s third baseman Richard Whitener had some reason to celebrate as well, as the league named him the National League Player of the Week. He had an on base percentage of .565 and hit .545, while driving in 8 runs. This year Whitener drove in 61 and scored 45 runs while batting .246 with 18 homeruns.
 
Sunday 7/9/2082: Bobby Ohara pitches his 1st shutout of the season
DETROIT - Bobby Ohara had his best stuff going, and New York (A) hitters had nothing to cheer about. Detroit's right-hander pitched a 2-hitter, his 1st shutout of the season. 'Giving my team a chance to win is the most important thing for me. I was able to do it today.' Ohara (5-6) struck out 5 and issued 1 BB, throwing 63 of 95 pitches for strikes. Detroit's centerfielder Richard Silk finished 2 for 4, blasting a homerun, with 3 RBI. That was enough to support the brilliant performance of Ohara. Detroit scored 6 runs on 10 hits.
 
Thursday 7/6/2082: Alex Aguiar ropes 500th career homerun
TEXAS - Seattle's players had every reason to congratulate Alex Aguiar, who reached a milestone today, slamming his 500th career longball! Perhaps his best year so far was 2073 where he hit .324 with 45 homeruns and 143 RBI. Alex has managed to hit 30+ homeruns in a season 12 times, and he topped 40 homeruns 3 times. 'My firends always told me that I will do it one day. I never believed it. Good that I was wrong!' His historic shot, off Junior Estevez in the 1st inning, was a solo homerun and cleared the fence in left field. The Hall of Fame already has reserved a place for this great player.
 
Tuesday 7/4/2082: Baltimore's Beringer out for the season
BALTIMORE - Baltimore's left-hander John Beringer experienced probably the worst case scenario for a pitcher, a season ending injury. After pitching in the 5th inning of the game against Oakland, Beringer complained about serious pain in his throwing arm. He had to leave the game. Baltimore wasted no time and rushed him to an hospital. Team officials were informed later that Beringer had suffered a Torn Tricep Muscle. Opposing players hit .223 against John this season. While posting an ERA of 3.76 he went 5-4 in 17 starts, fanning 106 and walking 34 hitters.
 
Monday 7/3/2082: Florida's Okelley wins Player of the Week award

Richard Duell pitched like a legend in June, and the American League named him Pitcher of the Month for his extraordinary performance. He went 6-0 in June and finished the month with an ERA of 1.79. He struck out 58 in 50.1 innings. Opposing players hit .208 against Richard this season. While posting an ERA of 2.21 he went 14-1 in 17 starts, fanning 161 and walking 7 hitters. It's the 6th time that the American League Batter of the Month award goes to Oakland's first baseman Jesus Mazza. Mazza helped his team with an average of .371 and 30 RBI in 89 at bats. His season features a batting average of .299 (85 hits in 284 AB), 15 doubles, no triples and 19 taters. Mazza collected 74 RBI and 47 runs as well. TEXAS - Texas beat San Diego 6-4, but that was not the real story of the game. Michael Gamboa was, as he went deep three times. Number 1 in the 5th inning, a shot estimated at 383 feet, cleared the wall in right field. His 2nd blast, a solo homerun off James Jimerson in the 7th inning, landed an estimated 425 feet from home plate. A 396 foot drive to right field marked his 3rd bomb, a two-run homerun off Pedro Miramontes in the 9th inning. It tied the ballgame at 4. Overall he collected 3 hits in 4 trips to the plate, with three runs scored and driving in 4 runs. In 1584 career at bats, he has hit 48 homeruns and collected 217 RBI. Thursday 6/29/2082: James Bergstrom on fire, hits for cycle
ARIZONA - Texas' centerfielder James Bergstrom accomplished a difficult feat in a game against Arizona, hitting for the cycle to improve his career batting average to .275! A single in the 1st off William Correa accounted for his 1st hit. His 2nd hit, off William Correa in the 3rd inning, was a solo homerun and cleared the fence in left field. In the 7th inning he belted a double off William Correa. His 4th hit was a triple off William Correa in the 9th inning. That drive completed the cycle, causing a smile on his face! James did drive in one while scoring 2 runs on his own. He now has a total of 87 hits this season, accounting for a .277 batting average. He's now the 346th player in league history to hit for the cycle! On 5/14/2082, Alberto Losada was the last player to hit for the cycle.

TAMPA BAY - Tampa Bay's offense is struggling, and Philadelphia's Scott Tyus didn't help them. The left-hander fired his 2nd shutout of the season, a 2-hitter. SEATTLE - Vernon Cantu powered Los Angeles (N) to a 11-8 win over Seattle. He did it in style by homering three times. His 1st shot, off Dale Flanders in the 1st inning, was a two-run homerun and cleared the fence in right-center. His 2nd blast, a solo homerun off Dale Flanders in the 5th inning, landed an estimated 372 feet from home plate. In the 8th inning he unloaded a solo homerun off Tomas Escriba. Overall he stroked 3 hits in 5 AB, scoring three times with 4 RBI. His homerun total this year is 11, along with 35 RBI. NEW YORK (A) - New York (A)'s Omar Zuņiga showed a smile on his face after he belted his 500th career homerun against Washington on Friday. Along with his 500 homeruns, Omar collected 2579 hits and 1707 RBI in 16 seasons. Omar hit 30+ homeruns in a season 8 times, hitting 40 bombs 2 times. 'Good things happen when you put the bat on the ball.' The historic drive, a GRAND SLAM off David Migliore in the 3rd inning, landed an estimated 366 feet from home plate. The Hall of Fame already has reserved a place for this great player.
 
Thursday 6/22/2082: Daniel Wynne out for 8 weeks
PITTSBURGH - When it rains, it pours. Pittsburgh's right-hander Daniel Wynne will not pitch for at least 8 weeks, handing the team a huge setback. He suffered a serious injury in a game against Cleveland where he left the field in the 5th inning. After x-rays were taken the diagnosis did not surprise many: Torn Bicep Muscle. WASHINGTON - Washington's second baseman Richard Rickard will miss at least 9 weeks after he got hurt seriously while running hard toward second base. He began limping and then fell down, causing a scary moment for his teammates. He had to be carried off the field. Rickard was rushed to an hospital near the ballpark, where doctors took x-rays. Those revealed the serious injury, Ruptured Medial Collateral Ligament. His season numbers are: .304 AVG, 75 hits, 16 doubles, 5 triples and 14 bombs, along with 54 RBI and 55 runs scored.

PITTSBURGH - Juan Sanchez powered Los Angeles (N) to a 11-10 win over Pittsburgh. He did it in style by homering three times. A 357 foot drive to left field marked his 1st bomb, a three-run homerun off Abelardo Pedrosa in the 2nd inning. Thursday 6/8/2082: Minnesota's McCardle out for 7 weeks
MINNESOTA - Minnesota's leftfielder Christopher McCardle will miss about 7 weeks after he hurt himself badly in the 5th inning of the game between Minnesota and Oakland. He dove for a drive off the bat of Domingo Valdez, and immediately signaled that he's not OK after hitting the ground. Minnesota wasted no time and rushed him to an hospital. Team officials were informed later that McCardle had suffered a Broken Foot. His season features a batting average of .227 (39 hits in 172 AB), 14 doubles, 2 triples and 6 homeruns. McCardle collected 25 RBI and 23 runs as well.
 
Tuesday 6/6/2082: Philadelphia's Galdamez severely injured
PHILADELPHIA - Philadelphia's Alfredo Galdamez suffered a serious injury Tuesday in a game against San Francisco. Galdamez fell down while running the bases and couldn't get up without help. He will miss probably 5-6 weeks. Doctors examined him after the game and diagnosed a Pulled Calf Muscle which will require surgery. Galdamez has hit for a .259 average this season. He has 22 extra base hits along with 84 total bases, resulting in a .418 slugging percentage.
 
Monday 6/5/2082: Mazza (OAK) and Shorter (STL) win P.O.W. award
The American League Player of the Week award goes to Jesus Mazza, Oakland's starting first baseman. Jesus went 11 for 23 (.478), while hitting 4 HR and collecting 16 RBI. The National League's best player of the week was St. Louis' Larry Shorter, who wins the award for the 5th time in his career. Monday 5/29/2082: Minnesota's Lopez out for 10 weeks
MINNESOTA - Minnesota's right-hander Javier Lopez suffered a severe injury on Monday and will be out for at least 10 weeks. In the 7th of the game against Texas he experienced pain in his throwing arm and had to leave the game. Pulled Rotator Cuff Muscle was the diagnosis after x-rays were taken in a nearby hospital. The message shocked teammates and team officials. Javier has a record of 6-1 this season, with an ERA of 2.77. In 74.2 Innings he was able to strike out 56 batters. He's 10th in the American League in ERA and 4th in wins!
 
Monday 5/29/2082: Duell and Putney win Player of the Week award
The American League's best player of the week was Oakland's Richard Duell, who wins the award for the 2nd time in his career. Duell was overpowering all week long, going 2-0 with an ERA of 1.06. Along the way he struck out 19 in 17 innings. He hurled a shutout as well. Jefferson Putney from San Francisco wins his 2nd Player of the Week award for putting up the best numbers this week in the National League. In 24 at bats he hit .417 with 4 HR and 11 RBI. He has hit 13 longballs while batting .251 this season. His 45 hits and 22 walks add up to a .337 on-base percentage.
 
Thursday 5/25/2082: St. Louis' Coleman out for the season
ST. LOUIS - St. Louis' southpaw Scott Coleman experienced probably the worst case scenario for a pitcher, a season ending injury. After pitching in the 7th inning of the game against Washington, Coleman complained about serious pain in his throwing arm. He had to leave the game. Doctors examined him after the game and diagnosed a Torn Back Muscle which will require surgery.
 
Monday 5/22/2082: Los Angeles (A)'s Julian Vilaseca has great day, hits three longballs
LOS ANGELES (A) - Los Angeles (A) beat New York (A) 12-5, but that was not the real story of the game. Julian Vilaseca was, as he went deep three times. His 1st shot, off Jean Gerlach in the 3rd inning, was a two-run homerun and cleared the fence in left field. Number 2 in the 5th inning, a shot estimated at 416 feet, cleared the wall in right-center. A 405 foot drive to right-center marked his 3rd bomb, a solo homerun off William Martin in the 8th inning. Overall he finished 3 for 4, with FOUR runs scored with 5 RBI. His homerun total this year is 17, along with 37 RBI.
 
Monday 5/22/2082: Cheatham (OAK) and Smith (PIT) win P.O.W. award
Danny Cheatham of Oakland wins his 1st Player of the Week award for dominating American League's hitters the entire week. Cheatham was overpowering all week long, going 2-0 with an ERA of 2.35. Along the way he struck out 13 in 15.1 innings. He hurled a shutout as well. This season Cheatham compiled an ERA of 3.62, going 6-2 in 9 starts. He fanned 56 while giving up 46 hits in 69.2 innings. He has one complete game and one shutout. He's 1st in the American League in wins! The National League Player of the Week award goes to Chang Smith, Pittsburgh's starting rightfielder. Chang pounded opposing pitchers, hitting .480 with 4 HR and 9 RBI while slugging 1.080.
 
Saturday 5/20/2082: Danny Cheatham pitches 2-hit shutout against St. Louis
ST. LOUIS - Oakland's right-hander Danny Cheatham is a great pitcher. And he once again showed his stuff, blanking St. Louis on just 2 hits. It's his 1st shutout this season, and the 4th time he has done it in his career. Cheatham (6-2) struck out 6 and issued 3 BB, throwing 72 of 123 pitches for strikes. 'They took some ugly cuts at my breaking stuff, so I kept throwing it. Fortunately they were not able to adjust in time.' James Shackelford helped Cheatham at the plate, he finished 3 for 4, hitting a homerun, doubling once, scoring 2 runs with 2 RBI. The final score of the game was 9-0.
 
Friday 5/19/2082: Seattle's Coss severely injured, out for season
SEATTLE - Seattle's lefty Robert Coss will not pitch again this year, suffering a serious injury in the game against San Francisco on Friday. Doctors examined him after the game and diagnosed a Bone Chips Shoulder which will require surgery. In 9 starts this year Robert struck out 51 batters in 47.1 innings of work. His ERA is 4.75, his record 2-4.
 
Thursday 5/18/2082: New York (N)'s Mitchell severely injured
NEW YORK (N) - New York (N) is without its lefty Gary Mitchell for at least 5 weeks. He injured himself while throwing a pitch to Richard Gandy in a game against Atlanta. His face showed signs of pain immediately after the ball left his hand. After being taken to a local hospital, Mitchell was examined by specialists. The diagnosis revealed the sad truth, a Ruptured Tricep Tendon.
 
Monday 5/15/2082: Davis and Kimura win Player of the Week award
Los Angeles (A)'s third baseman Bill Davis had some reason to celebrate, as the league named him the American League Player of the Week. In 26 at bats he hit .577 with 6 HR and 13 RBI. Atlanta's first baseman Joshua Kimura had some reason to celebrate as well, as the league named him the National League Player of the Week. Joshua was on fire, hitting .520 with 5 HR and 12 RBI. Kimura has hit 9 bombs this year while batting .345. He adds 7 doubles, along with 25 runs scored. He's 6th in the National League in batting and 6th in RBI!
 
Sunday 5/14/2082: Alberto Losada punishes Detroit with four hits, cycle
DETROIT - Alberto Losada is a pretty good hitter, but his 4 hit performance seemed to surprise even himself considering that the hits added up to the cycle, one of the most difficult things to accomplish in baseball. His 2nd hit, a two-run homerun off Jeffrey Nesmith in the 5th inning, cleared the fence in left field. His 3rd hit was a double off Mark Griego in the 7th inning. A single in the 8th off Raleigh Lugo accounted for his 4th hit. That drive completed the cycle, causing a smile on his face! Alberto scored 2 runs, and he collected 2 RBI as well! He is hitting .270 this season, with 3 HR and 21 RBI. 345 players in league history have so far hit for the cycle, including Alberto. Jose Avila was the last player to hit for the cycle, doing it 4/11/2082.
 
Tuesday 5/9/2082: Bill Davis knocks lights out with three homeruns
LOS ANGELES (A) - Bill Davis powered Los Angeles (A) to a 16-3 win over Toronto. He did it in style by homering three times. A 373 foot drive to right field marked his 1st bomb, a two-run homerun off Santo Gurrola in the 1st inning. His 2nd blast, a solo homerun off Heriberto Pinelo in the 5th inning, landed an estimated 404 feet from home plate. His 3rd shot, off Wendell Crosswhite in the 7th inning, was a solo homerun and cleared the fence in right field. Overall he collected 5 hits in 5 trips to the plate, with FOUR runs scored with 5 RBI. In 5718 career at bats, he has hit 315 homeruns and collected 1069 RBI. It's pretty obvious that he will enter the Hall of Fame some day!
 
Monday 5/8/2082: Los Angeles (A)'s Edwards wins Player of the Week award
Darryl Edwards wins his 1st Player of the Week award. American League pitchers couldn't figure out how to retire this guy all week long. In 33 at bats he hit .485 with 3 HR and 11 RBI. He got at least one hit each game this week and is on a 11 game hitting streak right now. Edwards has walked 5 times this year and posts a .386 OBP. While batting .361, 44 for 122, he has driven in 21 runs. He's 3rd in the American League in batting! The National League Player of the Week award goes to Chang Smith, Pittsburgh's starting rightfielder. He had an on base percentage of .533 and hit .517, while driving in 15 runs. He got at least one hit each game this week and is on a 9 game hitting streak right now. He has hit 12 bombs while batting .358 this season. WASHINGTON - Washington's right-hander Sam Lewis suffered a severe injury on Sunday and will be out for at least 5 weeks. In the 7th of the game against Houston he experienced pain in his throwing arm and had to leave the game. Lewis was rushed to an hospital near the ballpark, where doctors took x-rays. Those revealed the serious injury, Spasms Back. This season Lewis compiled an ERA of 4.67, going 1-3 in 0 starts. He fanned 16 while giving up 17 hits in 17.1 innings.
 
Thursday 5/4/2082: Sergio Ibarra dominates Atlanta, gives up just 2 hits
FLORIDA - Sergio Ibarra had some fun again. Atlanta hitters did not. Florida's right-hander gave up just 2 hits in his 1st shutout of the season. He now has 7 career shutouts in 224 games started. With two outs in the 6th inning Roberto Malave singled to break up the no-hitter. 'They took some ugly cuts at my breaking stuff, so I kept throwing it. Fortunately they were not able to adjust in time.' Ibarra (3-1) was overpowering, fanning 10 while walking none, throwing 98 pitches. Bill Warner provided Florida with the offense Ibarra needed as he went 2 for 3, doubling once, scoring 2 runs. Florida scored 6 runs on 7 hits.

MILWAUKEE - Milwaukee is without its right-hander Alan Mello for at least 7 weeks. He injured himself while throwing a pitch to Carl Conant in a game against Houston. His face showed signs of pain immediately after the ball left his hand. Ruptured Bicep Tendon was the diagnosis after x-rays were taken in a nearby hospital. The message shocked teammates and team officials. Alan has a record of 2-0 this season, with an ERA of 4.44. In 26.1 Innings he was able to strike out 39 batters.

Monday 5/1/2082: Texas has no chance in a 1-hitter by Pedro Garcia
SEATTLE - Great days are rare. But not for Seattle's right-hander Pedro Garcia. Texas found out the hard way that he is among the leagues top pitchers, getting just one hit. It's his 1st shutout this season, and the 19th time he has done it in his career. 'I was able to keep´em off balance. That certainly helped.' Garcia (4-2) struck out an astounding 13 and walked 1, throwing 67 of 99 pitches for strikes. Alex Aguiar helped Garcia at the plate, he collected 1 hit in 3 trips to the plate, hitting a homerun, with 3 RBI. Seattle improved its record to 12-14, scoring 6 runs on 11 hits.
 
Monday 5/1/2082: Pitcher of the Month award winners announced
's Donald Clapper had a terrific April, and it earned him the American League Pitcher of the month award. His record of 3-1 in 6 was among the leagues best this month. In 41.2 innings of work he allowed just 31 hits while striking out 32, compiling an ERA of just 1.30. Melvin Shen pitched like a legend in April, and the National League named him Pitcher of the Month for his extraordinary performance. His ERA of just 0.92 helped him to a 3-0 record in April. He worked 39 innings, striking out 40 hitters while walking 5.

Toyoaki Makoto of Chicago (A) wins his 0th Batter of the Month award for putting up the best numbers in the American League. Toyoaki was on fire, hitting .344 with 9 homeruns and 24 RBI. The National League Batter of the Month award goes to Larry Shorter, St. Louis' starting second baseman. Larry was on fire, hitting .358 with 11 homeruns and 18 RBI.
 
Monday 5/1/2082: Atlanta's Gandy wins Player of the Week award
The American League Player of the Week award goes to Richard Moncayo, one of Chicago (A)'s best starting pitchers. He was in a zone all week, compiling an ERA of 0.55 while going 2-0. He hurled a shutout as well. Opposing players hit .228 against Richard this season. While posting an ERA of 4.97 he went 2-2 in 6 starts, fanning 34 and walking 17 hitters. He has one complete game and one shutout. The National League's best player of the week was Atlanta's Richard Gandy, who wins the award for the 3rd time in his career. Richard went 14 for 26 (.538), while hitting 4 HR and collecting 8 RBI. Gandy has hit for a .367 average this season. He has 13 extra base hits along with 58 total bases, resulting in a .644 slugging percentage. He's 4th in the National League in batting!
 
Friday 4/28/2082: Ricardo Campos collects five hits against Texas
MINNESOTA - 'You know, in batting practice I didn't really feel that comfortable about my stroke today, but baseball is more than hitting. Then, when you're not trying to force a hit, you slug them in droves,' says Ricardo Campos after his 5 hit game, which Minnesota won 14-2 against Texas. His 1st hit, a solo homerun off Ji-ku Naganori in the 1st inning, landed an estimated 395 feet from home plate. His 4th hit, a two-run homerun off John Adler in the 6th inning, cleared the fence in right field. He had singles in the 3rd , in the 5th and in the 8th inning . Ricardo did drive in 3 while scoring 4 runs on his own. This season has been a good one for him so far, as he has 28 hits in 86 at bats, resulting in a .326 batting average.
 
Tuesday 4/25/2082: Emanuel Sandoval out for 7 weeks
NEW YORK (A) - When it rains, it pours. New York (A)'s right-hander Emanuel Sandoval will not pitch for at least 7 weeks, handing the team a huge setback. He suffered a serious injury in a game against Baltimore where he left the field in the 6th inning. After being taken to a local hospital, Sandoval was examined by specialists. The diagnosis revealed the sad truth, a Bone Chips Elbow. In 5 starts this year Emanuel struck out 42 batters in 36.1 innings of work. His ERA is 1.98, his record 2-2.
 
Monday 4/24/2082: Zuņiga (NYA) and Opitz (CHN) win P.O.W. award
Omar Zuņiga wins his 12th Player of the Week award. American League pitchers couldn't figure out how to retire this guy all week long. Omar was on fire, hitting .478 with 3 HR and 7 RBI. Luis Opitz from Chicago (N) wins his 1st Player of the Week award for putting up the best numbers this week in the National League. Luis pounded opposing pitchers, hitting .552 with 3 HR and 9 RBI while slugging 1.103.
 
Saturday 4/22/2082: James Mechling shuts out Pittsburgh on 2 hits
PITTSBURGH - James Mechling had some fun again. Pittsburgh hitters did not. Milwaukee's right-hander gave up just 2 hits in his 1st shutout of the season. He now has 13 career shutouts in 286 games started. 'Hey, that's my job! Everytime I take the mound I give the best I can. And my best stuff was too much for them today.' Mechling (2-2) was overpowering, fanning 10 while walking none, throwing 112 pitches. Milwaukee's third baseman Herman Boothby collected 3 hits in 4 trips to the plate, doubling once, scoring twice. That was enough to support the brilliant performance of Mechling. Milwaukee scored 6 runs on 9 hits.
 
Saturday 4/22/2082: Chicago (N)'s Luis Opitz has great day with five hits
CINCINNATI - Chicago (N)'s leftfielder Luis Opitz once again displayed his tremendous ability to make contact with that little white ball. He tore up Cincinnati's pitching staff with a 5 hit performance on Saturday. His 1st hit, a solo homerun off Odon Lerma in the 1st inning, cleared the fence in right field. A double off Odon Lerma in the 5th inning accounted for his 3rd hit. Number 4 in the 6th inning accounted for a RBI double. He collected singles in the 2nd inning (one RBI) and in the 7th . Luis scored 3 runs, and he collected 3 RBI as well! He's having a very good season so far, batting .338. Chicago (N) improved its record to 9-10, scoring 17 runs on 17 hits.
 
Tuesday 4/18/2082: Kansas City's Lunde severely injured
KANSAS CITY - Kansas City's pitcher Paul Lunde was part of a scary incident that saw the lefty being hit by a line drive in the 10th inning of the game between Kansas City and Seattle. Team trainers immediately rushed onto the field after the frightening scene. Lunde will miss about 5 weeks. After x-rays were taken the diagnosis did not surprise many: Fractured Hand. Surgery will be performed next week. Paul has a record of 0-0 this season, with an ERA of 2.70. In 3.1 Innings he was able to strike out 5 batters.
 
Monday 4/17/2082: Player of the Week honors go to Johnson and Rickard
Victor Johnson from Seattle wins his 3rd Player of the Week award for putting up the best numbers this week in the American League. He had an on base percentage of .625 and hit .591, while driving in 6 runs. Richard Rickard from Washington wins his 2nd Player of the Week award for putting up the best numbers this week in the National League. In 29 at bats he hit .448 with 5 HR and 16 RBI. Rickard has hit 5 taters this year while batting .396. He adds 2 doubles, along with 12 runs scored. He's 4th in the National League in batting, 4th in homeruns and 1st in RBI!
 
Tuesday 4/11/2082: Los Angeles (A)'s Jose Avila hits for the cycle
DETROIT - Jose Avila led Los Angeles (A) to a 12-1 win over Detroit by squeezing four hits out of his bat. That's not the best part, though. He hit for the cycle as well! Number 1 in the 2nd inning accounted for a RBI double. A pitch from George Levitt in the 3rd inning left his bat for a two-run triple. A single in the 5th off Lee Marden accounted for his 3rd hit. A 359 foot drive to left field marked his 4th hit, a two-run homerun off John Riccardi in the 7th inning. That drive completed the cycle, causing a smile on his face! Jose did drive in 5 while scoring 3 runs on his own. He's having a very good season so far, batting .367. He becomes the 344th player in league history collect at least a single, double, triple and a homerun in a single game. Cecil Simpkins was the last player to hit for the cycle, doing it 8/22/2081.

He hurled a shutout as well. Florida's pitcher Samuel Castro had some reason to celebrate as well, as the league named him the National League Player of the Week. Castro was overpowering all week long, going 2-0 with an ERA of 0.54. Along the way he struck out 17 in 16.2 innings. He hurled a shutout as well.
 
Monday 4/3/2082: Tampa Bay has no chance in a 2-hitter by Richard Duell
OAKLAND - Tampa Bay's hitters were dominated by Oakland's Richard Duell. He gave up just 2 hits in recording his 1st shutout of the season. Duell (1-0) was overpowering, fanning 11 while walking none, throwing 117 pitches. 'I had my stuff going. Everything I tried worked. What a day!'
