Monday 7/31/2079: Garcia (OAK) and Lasseter (PHI) win P.O.W. award
The American League's best player of the week was Oakland's William Garcia, who wins the award for the 16th time in his career. He had an on base percentage of .484 and hit .467, while driving in 7 runs. Dallas Lasseter wins his 14th Player of the Week award. National League pitchers couldn't figure out how to retire this guy all week long. Lasseter helped his team with an average of .650 and 11 RBI in 20 at bats. Dallas managed to drive in at least one run in every game he played this week. He now has homered in 4 consecutive games as well! While compiling an on base percentage of .429, Dallas hit .359 and slugged .717. He has collected 105 runs batted in this year. He's 2nd in the National League in batting, 3rd in homeruns and 2nd in RBI!
 
Sunday 7/30/2079: Tyrone Redwine ropes 2000th career hit
FLORIDA - Florida's first baseman Tyrone Redwine already had some highlights in his career, and today he added another one, getting his 2000th career hit. His best year so far was 2073 where he hit .315 with 56 homeruns and 171 RBI. 'I'm out of words. I'll probably realize it tomorrow, but for now I'm done.' He hit a single in the 6th off Robert Fergerson for number 2000.
 
Sunday 7/30/2079: Los Angeles (A)'s Robert Zellers laces 2000th career hit
BOSTON - Los Angeles (A)'s players had every reason to congratulate Robert Zellers, who reached a milestone today, collecting his 2000th career hit! Along with his 2000 hits, Robert collected 266 homeruns and 1151 RBI in 12 seasons. 'I still remember my first hit. But the one today is something special. I'll definitely keep that ball!' With one out in the 5th inning, Robert drilled a single, causing a standing ovation from the crowd.
 
Monday 7/24/2079: Toronto's Contreras wins Player of the Week award
Daniel Contreras wins his 1st Player of the Week award. American League pitchers couldn't figure out how to retire this guy all week long. Contreras helped his team with an average of .556 and 5 RBI in 18 at bats. Daniel has gone 55 for 293 (.188) this season, hitting 8 homeruns and driving in 25 runs. He has scored 40 runs on his own. It's the 1st time that the National League Player of the Week award goes to Houston's centerfielder Gabino Garcia. Gabino went 12 for 25 (.480), while hitting 1 HR and collecting 9 RBI.
 
Thursday 7/20/2079: Colorado's Davis severely injured
COLORADO - Colorado is without its right-hander Mario Davis for at least 6 weeks. He injured himself while throwing a pitch to Craig Edwards in a game against San Francisco. His face showed signs of pain immediately after the ball left his hand. Strained Rotator Cuff Muscle was the diagnosis after x-rays were taken in a nearby hospital. The message shocked teammates and team officials. Mario has a record of 12-2 this season, with an ERA of 3.70. In 151 Innings he was able to strike out 129 batters. Mario has pitched one shutout and one complete game. He's 2nd in the National League in wins!
 
Wednesday 7/19/2079: Dan Arguelles pitches 2-hit shutout against New York (A)
KANSAS CITY - Dan Arguelles had some fun again. New York (A) hitters did not. Kansas City's right-hander gave up just 2 hits in his 2nd shutout of the season. He now has 5 career shutouts in 170 games started. Matthew Johnson spoiled the bid for a no-hitter when he doubled with no outs in the 5th inning. 'I was hitting my spots. Now I'll start concentrating on my next start, and hopefully it will work again.' Arguelles (12-7) fanned 6 and walked none, throwing 98 pitches. Gary Rasheed provided Kansas City with the offense Arguelles needed as he collected 2 hits in 4 trips to the plate, blasting a homerun, scoring two runs. The final score of the game was 3-0.
 
Monday 7/17/2079: Player of the Week honors go to Bryant and Lewandowski
Toronto's shortstop Patrick Bryant had some reason to celebrate, as the league named him the American League Player of the Week. Patrick went 7 for 18 (.389), while hitting 0 HR and collecting 4 RBI. This year Bryant drove in 37 and scored 36 runs while batting .234 with 3 bombs. The National League Player of the Week award goes to Harley Lewandowski, Cincinnati's starting centerfielder. Harley was on fire, hitting .474 with 1 HR and 12 RBI. His season features a batting average of .272 (78 hits in 287 AB), 21 doubles, 2 triples and 11 homeruns. Lewandowski collected 57 RBI and 48 runs as well.
 
Friday 7/14/2079: Los Angeles (N)'s Resler severely injured
LOS ANGELES (N) - Los Angeles (N)'s centerfielder Ellis Resler will miss at least 4-5 weeks after he got hurt seriously while running hard toward second base. He began limping and then fell down, causing a scary moment for his teammates. He had to be carried off the field. Torn Abdominal Muscle was the diagnosis after x-rays were taken in a nearby hospital. The message shocked teammates and team officials. Ellis is hitting .276 this year, with 85 hits in 308 at bats. He has driven in 32 runs, slugging .370.
 
Monday 7/10/2079: Player of the Week honors go to Felan and Caban
The American League's best player of the week was Baltimore's Brian Felan, who wins the award for the 2nd time in his career. Brian was on fire, hitting .500 with 3 HR and 9 RBI. It's the 1st time that the National League Player of the Week award goes to St. Louis' pitcher Tony Caban. Caban was overpowering all week long, going 2-0 with an ERA of 0.00. Along the way he struck out 13 in 18 innings. He pitched two shutouts!
 
Friday 7/7/2079: Season ending injury strikes Tampa Bay's Isamu
TAMPA BAY - Tampa Bay's left-hander Ri-do Isamu will not pitch again this year, suffering a serious injury in the game against Detroit on Friday. After being taken to a local hospital, Isamu was examined by specialists. The diagnosis revealed the sad truth, a Torn Tricep Muscle. In 19 starts this year Ri-do struck out 122 batters in 119.2 innings of work. His ERA is 3.69, his record 7-8.
 
Wednesday 7/5/2079: New York (A)'s Sandoval severely injured
NEW YORK (A) - When it rains, it pours. New York (A)'s ace Emanuel Sandoval will not pitch for at least 4-5 weeks, handing the team a huge setback. He suffered a serious injury in a game against Boston where he left the field in the 6th inning. Ruptured Tricep Tendon was the diagnosis after x-rays were taken in a nearby hospital. The message shocked teammates and team officials. Opposing players hit .216 against Emanuel this season. While posting an ERA of 3.88 he went 8-5 in 19 starts, fanning 150 and walking 51 hitters.
 
Monday 7/3/2079: Rankin (BOS) and Disney (CIN) win P.O.W. award
The American League's best player of the week was Boston's Mary Rankin, who wins the award for the 7th time in his career. He hit .476 with 9 RBI and slugged 1.238 in 21 at bats. Rankin has hit for a .294 average this season. He has 45 extra base hits along with 168 total bases, resulting in a .587 slugging percentage. He's 4th in the American League in RBIs and 7th in homeruns! Michael Disney from Cincinnati wins his 1st Player of the Week award for putting up the best numbers this week in the National League. Michael went 12 for 23 (.522), while hitting 2 HR and collecting 8 RBI.
 
Sunday 7/2/2079: Philadelphia's Brian Sandridge laces five hits
BALTIMORE - Brian Sandridge is among the best pure hitters in the game, but his 5 hit performance seemed to surprise even himself. A RBI double off Einar Marquez in the 2nd inning accounted for his 1st hit. A 431 foot drive to right-center marked his 2nd hit, a solo homerun off Joel Martin in the 3rd inning. Number 3 in the 5th inning accounted for a double. Number 4 in the 6th inning accounted for a double. He collected a single in the 7th. Brian did drive in 2 while scoring 4 runs on his own. His 5 hit performance increases his batting average to .299. Philadelphia improved its record to 58-25, scoring 24 runs on 27 hits.
 
Sunday 7/2/2079: Jerry Romo drills 5 hits
BALTIMORE - Jerry Romo is among the best pure hitters in the game, but his 5 hit performance seemed to surprise even himself. His 2nd hit, a solo homerun off Joel Martin in the 5th inning, landed an estimated 444 feet from home plate. A 362 foot drive to right field marked his 3rd hit, a two-run homerun off Tony Campo in the 6th inning. A RBI double off Juan Mejia in the 9th inning accounted for his 5th hit. He had singles in the 2nd inning and in the 7th (one RBI). Jerry scored 3 runs, and he collected 5 RBI as well! This season has been a good one for him so far, as he has 70 hits in 230 at bats, resulting in a .304 batting average. Philadelphia improved its record to 58-25, scoring 24 runs on 27 hits.
 
Saturday 7/1/2079: New York (N)'s Thomas named Pitcher of the Month
Pedro Garcia pitched like a legend in June, and the American League named him Pitcher of the Month for his extraordinary performance. He struck out 45 hitters in his 6 starts, putting together a record of 4-1 while pitching 45 innings. His ERA in June was 1.45. Pedro has a record of 13-2 this season, with an ERA of 0.90. In 129.1 Innings he was able to strike out 135 batters. He has one complete game and one shutout. He's 1st in the American League in ERA and 1st in wins! New York (N)'s Kevin Thomas had a terrific June, and it earned him the National League Pitcher of the month award. He started 5 games in June, going 2-0 and compiling an ERA of 1.56 in 34.2 innings. Kevin fanned 21 hitters. His ERA of 3.82 helped him to a 8-1 record this year. He struck out 66 and walked 50 in 115.1 innings.

The American League Batter of the Month award goes to Mary Rankin, Boston's starting leftfielder. Mary went 33 for 88 (.375), while hitting 9 HR and collecting 25 RBI. He has hit 19 homeruns while batting .289 this season. His 80 hits and 54 walks add up to a .401 on-base percentage. He's 4th in the American League in RBIs and 6th in homeruns! The National League's best player of the month was St. Louis' Michael Putnam, who wins the award for the 1st time in his career. In 86 at bats he hit .442 with 6 HR and 23 RBI. Tuesday 6/27/2079: Boston's Mary Rankin unloads three times
BOSTON - Mary Rankin was in a groove, and the results spoke for themselves. He powered Boston to a 9-5 win over Philadelphia by homering three times. A pitch from Jared Gant in the 2nd inning left his bat for a solo homerun, landing 419 feet from home plate in left-center. His 2nd shot, a solo homerun off Edwin Petty in the 6th inning, cleared the fence in left-center. It tied the ballgame at 4. Number 3 in the 7th inning, a shot estimated at 398 feet, cleared the wall in right-center. Mary finished 3 for 4, with three runs scored and driving in 4 runs.
 
Monday 6/26/2079: Player of the Week honors go to Garcia and Shorter
The American League's best player of the week was Oakland's William Garcia, who wins the award for the 15th time in his career. William pounded opposing pitchers, hitting .600 with 0 HR and 5 RBI while slugging .800. William has gone 101 for 279 (.362) this season, hitting 16 bombs and driving in 55 runs. Larry Shorter from Colorado wins his 4th Player of the Week award for putting up the best numbers this week in the National League. Thursday 6/22/2079: Detroit's Samuel Zajicek hits for the cycle
DETROIT - Samuel Zajicek hits 'em where they ain't. Houston certainly agrees as Detroit's rightfielder unloaded four hits and hitting for the cycle. His 1st hit was a double off Jonathan Cunniff in the 2nd inning. A single in the 4th off Jonathan Cunniff accounted for his 2nd hit. His 3rd hit, off Larry Allbritton in the 5th inning, was a three-run homerun and cleared the fence in right-center. His 4th hit was a triple off Richard Swader in the 8th inning. That drive completed the cycle, causing a smile on his face! Samuel did drive in 3 while scoring 3 runs on his own. He is hitting .263 this season, with 8 HR and 30 RBI. He becomes the 334th player in league history collect at least a single, double, triple and a homerun in a single game. Omar Morello was the last player to hit for the cycle, doing it 4/25/2079.
 
Monday 6/19/2079: Florida's Principato wins Player of the Week award
The Player of the Week award in the American League goes to Texas' Bill Thomas this time, as the third baseman displayed the best offensive perfomance in his league. Bill pounded opposing pitchers, hitting .560 with 2 HR and 8 RBI while slugging .840. He got at least one hit each game this week and is on a 7 game hitting streak right now. The National League Player of the Week award goes to Juan Principato, Florida's starting leftfielder. In 23 at bats he hit .435 with 6 HR and 11 RBI.
 
Saturday 6/17/2079: Oakland's Rojo out for the season
OAKLAND - Oakland's catcher Robert Rojo will miss the rest of the season. He injured himself running the bases in the game between Oakland and San Diego. The injury didn't seem to be serious the moment it happened. But suddenly Rojo collapsed in pain and had to be carried off the field. After x-rays were taken the diagnosis did not surprise many: Ruptured Achilles Tendon. Surgery will be performed next week. His season numbers are: .255 AVG, 52 hits, 7 doubles, no triples and 2 taters, along with 20 RBI and 18 runs scored.
 
Friday 6/16/2079: Carl Conant collects 2000th hit against Kansas City
HOUSTON - Houston's Carl Conant showed a smile on his face after he got his 2000th career hit against Kansas City on Friday. He hit a double in the 1st off Joshua Roling for number 2000. Along with his 2000 hits, Carl collected 190 homeruns and 1010 RBI in 12 seasons. 'This day is special, I'll probably remember it my whole life. Thank god I'm blessed with the talent to play this game.'
 
Wednesday 6/14/2079: Marion Krauss (WSH) will miss 5 weeks
WASHINGTON - Washington is without its right-hander Marion Krauss for at least 5 weeks. He injured himself while throwing a pitch to Ariel Santos in a game against Los Angeles (N). His face showed signs of pain immediately after the ball left his hand. After being examined by several specialists the diagnosis is clear: Torn Bicep Muscle. Marion has a record of 3-9 this season, with an ERA of 5.40. In 88.1 Innings he was able to strike out 78 batters. He has one complete game and one shutout.
 
Monday 6/12/2079: Chang Smith punishes St. Louis with three dingers
PITTSBURGH - Chang Smith was in a groove, and the results spoke for themselves. He powered Pittsburgh to a 8-1 win over St. Louis by homering three times. His 1st shot, off Ivan Ponds in the 2nd inning, was a solo homerun and cleared the fence in left-center. His 2nd shot, a two-run homerun off Ivan Ponds in the 6th inning, cleared the fence in left field. In the 8th inning he unloaded a three-run homerun off Ronnie Groves. Chang collected 4 hits in 4 trips to the plate, doubling once, scoring three times with 6 RBI. His homerun total this year is 16, along with 49 RBI.
 
Monday 6/12/2079: Philadelphia's Garcia wins Player of the Week award
The American League's best player of the week was Cleveland's Martin Cintron, who wins the award for the 3rd time in his career. Martin was on fire, hitting .455 with 2 HR and 9 RBI. His season numbers are: .263 AVG, 59 hits, 18 doubles, 8 triples and 15 taters, along with 41 RBI and 47 runs scored. Philadelphia's centerfielder Carlos Garcia had some reason to celebrate as well, as the league named him the National League Player of the Week. He hit .500 with 13 RBI and slugged 1.038 in 26 at bats. He got at least one hit each game this week and is on a 15 game hitting streak right now.
 
Sunday 6/11/2079: Paulino Zubiaga (MIN) will miss 5 weeks
MINNESOTA - When it rains, it pours. Minnesota's right-hander Paulino Zubiaga will not pitch for at least 5 weeks, handing the team a huge setback. He suffered a serious injury in a game against Cleveland where he left the field in the 9th inning. After x-rays were taken the diagnosis did not surprise many: Bone Chips Elbow. Surgery will be performed next week. This season Zubiaga compiled an ERA of 3.86, going 1-0 in 0 starts. He fanned 13 while giving up 24 hits in 25.2 innings.
 
Saturday 6/10/2079: John Beringer pitches his 1st shutout of the season
BALTIMORE - Baltimore's lefty John Beringer is clearly one of the best pitchers in the game. Oakland found out the hard way, getting just one hit. Beringer 1st shutout this season was a masterpiece, as he was almost untouchable. He has now hurled 10th shutouts in his career. 'Things like that happen. You take the mound and everything works. My velocity was pretty good today and I guess it showed.' Beringer (8-3) fanned 8 and walked 1, throwing 95 pitches. Jack Levay helped Beringer at the plate, he finished with 1 hit in 2 AB. Baltimore scored 1 run on 4 hits.
 
Friday 6/9/2079: Huge blow for Houston's Segura, career over
HOUSTON - Houston's season has taken a hit after one of their best players, leftfielder Luis Segura, injured himself while rounding a base. He is likely to miss entire career. After x-rays were taken the diagnosis did not surprise many: Ruptured Achilles Tendon. Surgery will be performed next week. Segura has walked 16 times this year and posts a .466 OBP. While batting .338, 24 for 71, he has driven in 13 runs.
 
Monday 6/5/2079: Player of the Week honors go to Davis and Sanderson
The American League Player of the Week award goes to Bill Davis, Los Angeles (A)'s starting third baseman. He had an on base percentage of .448 and hit .448, while driving in 12 runs. The Player of the Week award in the National League goes to Chicago (N)'s Dennis Sanderson this time, as the centerfielder displayed the best offensive perfomance in his league. Sanderson helped his team with an average of .375 and 12 RBI in 24 at bats. He now has homered in 4 consecutive games as well!
 
Sunday 6/4/2079: Abel Garza quiets Pittsburgh bats with shutout
CINCINNATI - Cincinnati's right-hander Abel Garza is a great pitcher. And he once again showed his stuff, blanking Pittsburgh on just 2 hits. It's his 1st shutout this season, and the 14th time he has done it in his career. Garza (7-4) struck out 7 and walked 1, throwing 60 of 104 pitches for strikes. 'My catcher called a very good game. I have to give credit to him.' The hitting star for Cincinnati was first baseman Roosevelt Donnelly, he got 2 hits in 5 AB, hitting a homerun, and driving in 3 runs. The final score of the game was 4-0.
 
Saturday 6/3/2079: Cincinnati's Trujillo out for 6 weeks
CINCINNATI - Cincinnati's southpaw Jorge Trujillo suffered a severe injury on Saturday and will be out for at least 6 weeks. In the 5th of the game against Pittsburgh he experienced pain in his throwing arm and had to leave the game. Strained Rotator Cuff Muscle was the diagnosis after x-rays were taken in a nearby hospital. The message shocked teammates and team officials. Jorge has a record of 1-2 this season, with an ERA of 3.20. In 39.1 Innings he was able to strike out 24 batters.

NEW YORK (N) - It was a great day for Arizona's right-hander Alfred Peters. The 25-year old recorded his first career shutout, a 1-hitter, against New York (N) on Friday. 'Things like that happen. You take the mound and everything works. My velocity was pretty good today and I guess it showed.' Peters (2-3) fanned 4 and walked 2, throwing 97 pitches. Michael has pitched 2 shutouts and 3 complete games. He's 2nd in the National League in ERA and 2nd in wins!

TAMPA BAY - Boston's right-hander James Karsten will never forget this day. The 23-year old recorded his first career shutout, a 2-hitter, against Tampa Bay on Tuesday. 'Things like that happen. You take the mound and everything works. My velocity was pretty good today and I guess it showed.' Karsten (4-5) struck out 9 and issued 3 BB, throwing 71 of 111 pitches for strikes. Boston's shortstop Nathan Barnett stroked 4 hits in 6 AB, homering once, hitting a double, scoring FOUR times. That was enough to support the brilliant performance of Karsten. Boston scored 11 runs on 14 hits.

The American League's best player of the week was Detroit's Darius Moore, who wins the award for the 1st time in his career. Moore was overpowering all week long, going 2-0 with an ERA of 0.59. BALTIMORE - Detroit's right-hander Darius Moore is a great pitcher. And he once again showed his stuff, blanking Baltimore on just 2 hits. It's his 1st shutout this season, and the 6th time he has done it in his career. Moore (6-3) struck out an astounding 13 and walked 1, throwing 70 of 105 pitches for strikes. 'Giving my team a chance to win is the most important thing for me. I was able to do it today.' Detroit's second baseman Jon Dutton collected 2 hits in 4 trips to the plate, homering once, stroking a double, scoring 2 runs and collecting 7 RBI. That was enough to support the brilliant performance of Moore. Detroit scored 12 runs on 15 hits.
 
Saturday 5/27/2079: Oakland's Jaramillo severely injured
OAKLAND - Oakland is without its right-hander David Jaramillo for at least 8 weeks. He injured himself while throwing a pitch to Rinji Gesshin in a game against Texas. His face showed signs of pain immediately after the ball left his hand. Jaramillo was rushed to an hospital near the ballpark, where doctors took x-rays. Those revealed the serious injury, Torn Bicep Muscle. His ERA of 5.20 helped him to a 1-6 record this year. He struck out 44 and walked 9 in 53.2 innings.
 
Wednesday 5/24/2079: Alex Rivera slams 3 HR
PHILADELPHIA - Philadelphia's first baseman Alex Rivera showed the world why he is one of the most amazing sluggers in a 20-4 win over Florida. He almost knockes the cover off the ball, resulting in three homeruns. His 1st shot, a three-run homerun off Sergio Ibarra in the 3rd inning, cleared the fence in right field. Fergerson 1st shutout this season was a masterpiece, as he was almost untouchable. He has now hurled 3rd shutouts in his career. 'I had my stuff going. Everything I tried worked. What a day!' Fergerson (4-4) struck out 5 and walked 1, throwing 57 of 93 pitches for strikes. Howard Peer helped Fergerson at the plate, he stroked 1 hit in 1 AB. The final score of the game was 2-0.
 
Monday 5/22/2079: Clarke (BAL) and Shorter (COL) win P.O.W. award
The American League's best player of the week was Baltimore's Scott Clarke, who wins the award for the 3rd time in his career. Scott was on fire, hitting .480 with 3 HR and 7 RBI. While compiling an on base percentage of .374, Scott hit .311 and slugged .622. He has collected 29 runs batted in this year. Colorado's second baseman Larry Shorter had some reason to celebrate as well, as the league named him the National League Player of the Week. Sunday 5/21/2079: New York (A)'s Zuņiga severely injured
NEW YORK (A) - New York (A)'s Omar Zuņiga suffered a serious injury Sunday in a game against Atlanta. Zuņiga fell down while running the bases and couldn't get up without help. He will miss probably 5 weeks. After x-rays were taken the diagnosis did not surprise many: Strained Back Muscle. Surgery will be performed next week. His season features a batting average of .263 (42 hits in 160 AB), 11 doubles, no triples and 12 taters. Zuņiga collected 32 RBI and 34 runs as well.
 
Wednesday 5/17/2079: Brandon Saunders fires 1-hitter against Philadelphia
CHICAGO (N) - Chicago (N)'s right-hander Brandon Saunders didn't look unexperienced at all. The 22 year old pitched a 1-hit shutout against Philadelphia, recording his 1st shutout of the season. Saunders (4-2) struck out 8 and walked 3, throwing 63 of 104 pitches for strikes. 'I was able to keep´em off balance. That certainly helped.' Dennis Sanderson provided Chicago (N) with the offense Saunders needed as he went 2 for 4, hitting a homerun, with three runs scored and collecting 2 RBI. The final score of the game was 11-0.
 
Monday 5/15/2079: Player of the Week honors go to Davis and Shrewsbury
Bill Davis wins his 3rd Player of the Week award. American League pitchers couldn't figure out how to retire this guy all week long. He had an on base percentage of .588 and hit .533, while driving in 9 runs. He hit in every game this week and extended his hitting streak to 10 games. While compiling an on base percentage of .401, Bill hit .351 and slugged .701. He has collected 36 runs batted in this year. He's 5th in the American League in batting, 2nd in homeruns and 1st in RBI! The Player of the Week award in the National League goes to Colorado's Marc Shrewsbury this time, as the pitcher displayed the best pitching perfomance in his league. He was in a zone all week, compiling an ERA of 2.12 while going 2-0. He hurled a shutout as well. His ERA of 3.54 helped him to a 5-2 record this year. He struck out 59 and walked 32 in 56 innings. Marc has pitched one shutout and one complete game. He's 2nd in the National League in wins!
 
Wednesday 5/10/2079: Pedro Garcia pitches his 1st shutout of the season
SEATTLE - Great days are rare. But not for Seattle's right-hander Pedro Garcia. New York (A) found out the hard way that he is among the leagues top pitchers, getting just 2 hits. It's his 1st shutout this season, and the 14th time he has done it in his career. 'Winning is the most important thing. And I gave my team all the support it needed!' Garcia (6-1) was really unbelievable, striking out 17 and walking 1, throwing 76 of 124 pitches for strikes. Esteban Padula helped Garcia at the plate, he got 2 hits in 4 AB, homering once, scoring 2 runs and collecting 2 RBI. The final score of the game was 12-0.
 
Monday 5/8/2079: Player of the Week honors go to Yoon and Brogan
Christopher Yoon from Kansas City wins his 9th Player of the Week award for putting up the best numbers this week in the American League. He had an on base percentage of .538 and hit .500, while driving in 14 runs. It's the 3rd time that the National League Player of the Week award goes to Philadelphia's leftfielder Willie Brogan. KANSAS CITY - Gary Rasheed punished Chicago (A)'s pitching today, collecting five hits in 6 AB. That definitely helped Kansas City, they won the game 21 to 3. A pitch from Richard Chaput in the 4th inning left his bat for a double. His 3rd hit was a RBI triple off James Yan in the 5th inning. In the 5th inning he belted a two-run double off Quincy Matthews. In the 6th inning he belted a RBI double off Quincy Matthews. He had a single in the 2nd. WASHINGTON - All you need to win is a dominating pitching performance. And Houston's Michael Shim did so today, in a 1-hit shutout against Washington. 'Pitching a great game is always a good thing. And it doesn't get much better than today.' Shim (3-3) struck out 7 and issued 2 BB, throwing 66 of 112 pitches for strikes. Alberto Villaran provided Houston with the offense Shim needed as he stroked 2 hits in 4 AB. Houston improved its record to 14-18, scoring 1 run on 6 hits.
 
Saturday 5/6/2079: Seattle's Griffie severely injured
SEATTLE - Seattle's season took a blow when Douglas Griffie suffered a serious injury in the game against Minnesota. He hurt his arm throwing a strike to first base. Griffie will probaby miss 6 weeks. After being taken to a local hospital, Griffie was examined by specialists. The diagnosis revealed the sad truth, a Pulled Bicep Muscle. His season features a batting average of .328 (22 hits in 67 AB), 7 doubles, no triples and 4 longballs. Griffie collected 10 RBI and 13 runs as well.
 
Saturday 5/6/2079: Norman Morgan out for 7 weeks
BOSTON - Boston's right-hander Norman Morgan suffered a severe injury on Saturday and will be out for at least 7 weeks. In the 8th of the game against Toronto he experienced pain in his throwing arm and had to leave the game. Doctors examined him after the game and diagnosed a Ruptured Tricep Tendon which will require surgery. In 0 starts this year Norman struck out 25 batters in 24.2 innings of work. His ERA is 3.65, his record 2-1.
 
Thursday 5/4/2079: Christopher Yoon collects five hits against Detroit
KANSAS CITY - Christopher Yoon punished Detroit's pitching today, collecting five hits in 5 AB. That definitely helped Kansas City, they won the game 13 to 3. In the 1st inning he unloaded a GRAND SLAM off James Krouse. A pitch from Lee Marden in the 4th inning left his bat for a two-run homerun, landing 387 feet from home plate in right field. He had singles in the 2nd , in the 7th and in the 8th inning . Christopher scored 3 runs, and he collected 6 RBI as well! He is hitting .279 this season, with 9 HR and 24 RBI.
 
Tuesday 5/2/2079: Matt Colburn quiets Texas bats with shutout
NEW YORK (A) - New York (A)'s right-hander Matt Colburn didn't look unexperienced at all. The 21 year old pitched a 1-hit shutout against Texas, recording his 1st shutout of the season. The bid for a no-hitter was broken up when David Belliveau singled with one out in the 7th inning. 'I had a good grip on the ball today and I was able to put it where I wanted. That kept them out of balance.' Colburn (1-2) fanned 9 and walked none, throwing 104 pitches. Teddy Mansour helped Colburn at the plate, he collected 2 hits in 3 trips to the plate, doubling once, scoring 2 runs and driving in 2 runs. The final score of the game was 6-0.
 
Monday 5/1/2079: Garcia (SEA) and Garza (CIN) win monthly pitcher award
Seattle's Pedro Garcia had a terrific April, and it earned him the American League Pitcher of the month award. His ERA of just 0.98 helped him to a 5-1 record in April. He worked 46 innings, striking out 45 hitters while walking 3. Cincinnati's pitcher Abel Garza is the National League winner of the Pitcher of the Month award in April. His record of 3-2 in 6 was among the leagues best this month. In 44.2 innings of work he allowed just 28 hits while striking out 52, compiling an ERA of just 1.41.
 
Monday 5/1/2079: Tassone (TBA) and Lasseter (PHI) win monthly award
The American League's best player of the month was Tampa Bay's Gail Tassone, who wins the award for the 1st time in his career. He had an on base percentage of .513 and hit .446, while driving in 21 runs. The National League's best player of the month was Philadelphia's Dallas Lasseter, who wins the award for the 9th time in his career. He had an on base percentage of .444 and hit .404, while driving in 34 runs.

The Player of the Week award in the American League goes to Tampa Bay's Omar Morello this time, as the leftfielder displayed the best offensive perfomance in his league. Los Angeles (N)'s rightfielder Markus Smith had some reason to celebrate as well, as the league named him the National League Player of the Week. He had an on base percentage of .481 and hit .409, while driving in 12 runs.
 
Wednesday 4/26/2079: Mario Davis quiets Arizona bats with shutout
COLORADO - Great days are rare. But not for Colorado's right-hander Mario Davis. Arizona found out the hard way that he is among the leagues top pitchers, getting just 2 hits. It's his 1st shutout this season, and the 7th time he has done it in his career. Davis (3-0) struck out 9 and walked 3, throwing 69 of 120 pitches for strikes. 'I felt early that I was on top of my game. Fortunately I was able to keep that feeling the entire game.' Po-ta Taro helped Davis at the plate, he stroked 3 hits in 5 AB, homering once, scoring three runs and collecting 2 RBI. Colorado scored 13 runs on 15 hits.
 
Tuesday 4/25/2079: Omar Morello punishes Toronto with four hits, cycle
TAMPA BAY - Omar Morello is a pretty good hitter, but his 4 hit performance seemed to surprise even himself considering that the hits added up to the cycle, one of the most difficult things to accomplish in baseball. His 1st hit, a three-run homerun off Einar Almendarez in the 1st inning, cleared the fence in right field. A pitch from Gregorio Galaz in the 3rd inning left his bat for a RBI triple. A single in the 6th off James Dye accounted for his 3rd hit. In the 7th inning he belted a RBI double off Charles Tester. That drive completed the cycle, causing a smile on his face! Omar did drive in 6 while scoring 3 runs on his own. This season has been a good one for him so far, as he has 6 hits in 17 at bats, resulting in a .353 batting average. 333 players in league history have so far hit for the cycle, including Omar. On 8/30/2078, Tomas Jimenez was the last player to hit for the cycle.
 
Tuesday 4/25/2079: Micheal Slade (CLE) will miss 5-6 weeks
CLEVELAND - Cleveland's shortstop Micheal Slade suffered a serious injury when he was struck by a pitch from Seattle's Daniel Lally. He collapsed in pain and was helped off the field. Slade will probaby miss 5-6 weeks. After being taken to a local hospital, Slade was examined by specialists. The diagnosis revealed the sad truth, a Fractured Hand. Micheal has gone 23 for 72 (.319) this season, hitting one tater and driving in 9 runs. He has scored 11 runs on his own.
 
Monday 4/24/2079: Morris (SEA) and Shorter (COL) win P.O.W. award
The American League's best player of the week was Seattle's Michael Morris, who wins the award for the 2nd time in his career. Michael pounded opposing pitchers, hitting .440 with 5 HR and 14 RBI while slugging 1.040. He has hit 5 taters while batting .294 this season. His 20 hits and 7 walks add up to a .364 on-base percentage. He's 6th in the American League in RBIs and 5th in homeruns! Larry Shorter wins his 2nd Player of the Week award. National League pitchers couldn't figure out how to retire this guy all week long. Larry went 15 for 28 (.536), while hitting 4 HR and collecting 9 RBI. Larry has gone 30 for 73 (.411) this season, hitting 7 homeruns and driving in 16 runs. He has scored 19 runs on his own. He's 2nd in the National League in batting!
 
Saturday 4/22/2079: 5-hit performance by Colorado's Michael Sparrow
COLORADO - Michael Sparrow hits 'em where they ain't. Philadelphia certainly agrees as Colorado's rightfielder unloaded five hits, adding to his reputation of being one of the best pure hitters in the game. A pitch from Michael Polzin in the 1st inning left his bat for a solo homerun, landing 414 feet from home plate in right-center. A RBI double off Michael Polzin in the 2nd inning accounted for his 2nd hit. In the 4th inning he unloaded a two-run homerun off Raul Cespedes. A pitch from Edwin Petty in the 7th inning left his bat for a double. Number 5 in the 8th inning accounted for a RBI double. Michael did drive in 5 while scoring 3 runs on his own. He is hitting .258 this season, with 3 HR and 8 RBI. The final score of the game was 9-5.
 
Friday 4/21/2079: Tuan Guidi blanks Kansas City with a 2-hitter
CLEVELAND - All you need to win is a dominating pitching performance. And Cleveland's Tuan Guidi did so today, in a 2-hit shutout against Kansas City. Guidi (1-1) struck out 1 and issued 1 BB, throwing 54 of 91 pitches for strikes. 'I'll have to give a lot of credit to my catcher. He put all the right fingers down today.' Cecil Simpkins helped Guidi at the plate, he got 1 hit in 4 AB, stroking a double. The final score of the game was 1-0.

The Player of the Week award in the American League goes to Chicago (A)'s Jesus Mazza this time, as the first baseman displayed the best offensive perfomance in his league. He hit .444 with 15 RBI and slugged 1.259 in 27 at bats. He hit in every game this week and extended his hitting streak to 12 games. He now has homered in 5 consecutive games as well! Jesus is hitting .442 this year, with 23 hits in 52 at bats. He has driven in 21 runs, slugging .962. He's 2nd in the American League in batting, 1st in homeruns and 1st in RBI! It's the 3rd time that the National League Player of the Week award goes to Pittsburgh's centerfielder Pedro Tijerina. Pedro was on fire, hitting .448 with 4 HR and 11 RBI.
 
Tuesday 4/11/2079: Season ending injury strikes Boston's Gravatt
BOSTON - Boston's third baseman Brett Gravatt suffered a season ending injury when he hurt himself firing a ball to first base. He collapsed in pain after the throw and was helped off the field. After x-rays were taken the diagnosis did not surprise many: Torn Rotator Cuff Muscle. Surgery will be performed next week.
 
Monday 4/10/2079: Philadelphia's Garcia wins Player of the Week award
It's the 10th time that the American League Player of the Week award goes to New York (A)'s first baseman Omar Zuņiga. Omar went 11 for 28 (.393), while hitting 3 HR and collecting 10 RBI. Carlos Garcia from Philadelphia wins his 17th Player of the Week award for putting up the best numbers this week in the National League. Carlos went 15 for 23 (.652), while hitting 6 HR and collecting 12 RBI. He now has homered in 5 consecutive games as well!
