The American League was convinced that Detroit's second baseman, 22 years old, should be the Rookie of the Year Award winner of 2078. Chicago (N) found out the hard way that he is among the leagues top pitchers, getting just 2 hits. It's his 2nd shutout this season, and the 8th time he has done it in his career. Sunday 10/1/2078: Oakland's Adkisson earns Pitcher of the Month award The best month of September in the American League certainly had Oakland's right-hander Jeffrey Adkisson, earning him the Pitcher of the Month award. His ERA of just 1.13 helped him to a 4-1 record in September. He worked 39.2 innings, striking out 43 hitters while walking 16. His ERA of 3.83 helped him to a 15-11 record this year. Thursday 9/28/2078: Season ending injury strikes Seattle's Johnson SEATTLE - Seattle's rightfielder Victor Johnson will miss the rest of the season. He injured himself running the bases in the game between Seattle and Oakland. The injury didn't seem to be serious the moment it happened. But suddenly Johnson collapsed in pain and had to be carried off the field. Seattle wasted no time and rushed him to an hospital. Wednesday 9/27/2078: John Fonseca ropes 500th career homerun NEW YORK (N) - Washington's third baseman John Fonseca already had some highlights in his career, and today he added a historic one, unloading for his 500th career homerun. The historic drive, a solo homerun off Robert McGrew in the 4th inning, landed an estimated 373 feet from home plate. Houston's first baseman Jason Baker accomplished that feat in a 12-7 win over Atlanta. His 1st shot, off Robert Fergerson in the 2nd inning, was a two-run homerun and cleared the fence in right field. His 2nd blast, a two-run homerun off Robert Fergerson in the 3rd inning, landed an estimated 422 feet from home plate. A 355 foot drive to right field marked his 3rd bomb, a solo homerun off Ernesto Torres in the 5th inning. Jason went 3 for 4, scoring three runs and collecting 5 RBI. Wednesday 8/30/2078: Atlanta's Tomas Jimenez hits for the cycle COLORADO - Atlanta's catcher Tomas Jimenez once again displayed his tremendous ability to make contact with that little white ball. He tore up Colorado's pitching staff with a 4 hit performance on Wednesday. A triple off Mario Davis in the 2nd inning, accounted for his 1st hit. His 2nd hit, a two-run homerun off Antonio Quintero in the 4th inning, cleared the fence in left-center. A pitch from Antonio Quintero in the 5th inning left his bat for a three-run double. Tuesday 7/18/2078: Kansas City's Coss severely injured KANSAS CITY - When it rains, it pours. Monday 5/29/2078: Ellis and Zellers win Player of the Week award Boston's leftfielder Douglas Ellis had some reason to celebrate, as the league named him the American League Player of the Week. In 22 at bats he hit .364 with 5 HR and 13 RBI. Robert Zellers wins his 4th Player of the Week award. National League pitchers couldn't figure out how to retire this guy all week long. Zellers helped his team with an average of .458 and 7 RBI in 24 at bats. |
Wednesday 5/24/2078: Pittsburgh's Robert Zellers gets the cycle MILWAUKEE - Robert Zellers led Pittsburgh to a 10-4 win over Milwaukee by squeezing four hits out of his bat. That's not the best part, though. He hit for the cycle as well! His 1st hit was a double off Harold Webb in the 1st inning. His 2nd hit, off Harold Webb in the 5th inning, was a solo homerun and cleared the fence in right field. A single in the 6th off Alan Mello accounted for his 3rd hit. A pitch from Fermin Fernandes in the 11th inning left his bat for a triple. That drive completed the cycle, causing a smile on his face! Robert scored 3 runs, and he collected 2 RBI as well! Wednesday 5/24/2078: Toronto's Galaz out for 5-6 weeks TORONTO - Toronto is without its right-hander Gregorio Galaz for at least 5-6 weeks. Tuesday 5/23/2078: New York (N)'s Medina severely injured NEW YORK (N) - New York (N)'s players were scared when they had to watch Manny Medina suffer a serious injury when he dove for a ball in the game against Cincinnati. He collapsed in pain and was helped off the field. Medina will probaby miss 5-6 weeks. After x-rays were taken the diagnosis did not surprise many: Spasms Back. Surgery will be performed next week. Monday 5/22/2078: Davis (LAA) and Blanco (FLO) win P.O.W. award It's the 2nd time that the American League Player of the Week award goes to Los Angeles (A)'s third baseman Bill Davis. Bill was on fire, hitting .433 with 3 HR and 7 RBI. Florida's catcher Tito Blanco had some reason to celebrate as well, as the league named him the National League Player of the Week. He had an on base percentage of .609 and hit .591, while driving in 8 runs. He hit in every game this week and extended his hitting streak to 10 games. |
Sunday 5/21/2078: Boston's Pedro Villatoro hits for the cycle NEW YORK (N) - Pedro Villatoro is a pretty good hitter, but his 5 hit performance seemed to surprise even himself considering that the hits added up to the cycle, one of the most difficult things to accomplish in baseball. A single in the 1st off Stephen Bates accounted for his 1st hit. A two-run double off Stephen Bates in the 2nd inning accounted for his 2nd hit. A 399 foot drive to left field marked his 3rd hit, a three-run homerun off Alonso Chapa in the 2nd inning. Hit number 4 followed in the 3rd inning, a triple. That drive completed the cycle, causing a smile on his face! In the 8th inning he unloaded a RBI triple off Alex Luevano. Pedro did drive in 7 while scoring 6 runs on his own. His 5 hit performance increases his batting average to .222. He becomes the 328th player in league history collect at least a single, double, triple and a homerun in a single game. Saturday 5/20/2078: Philadelphia's Brogan severely injured, out for season PHILADELPHIA - Philadelphia's leftfielder Willie Brogan will miss the rest of the season. He injured himself running the bases in the game between Philadelphia and Arizona. The injury didn't seem to be serious the moment it happened. But suddenly Brogan collapsed in pain and had to be carried off the field. Philadelphia wasted no time and rushed him to an hospital. Team officials were informed later that Brogan had suffered a Torn Abdominal Muscle. Willie is hitting .301 this year, with 46 hits in 153 at bats. He has driven in 24 runs, slugging .444. |
Saturday 5/20/2078: Ryan Kim dominates Oakland, gives up just one hit SAN DIEGO - San Diego's right-hander Ryan Kim is clearly one of the best pitchers in the game. Oakland found out the hard way, getting just one hit. Kim 1st shutout this season was a masterpiece, as he was almost untouchable. He has now hurled 5th shutouts in his career. 'They took some ugly cuts at my breaking stuff, so I kept throwing it. Fortunately they were not able to adjust in time.' Kim (4-3) struck out 9 and issued 2 BB, throwing 66 of 106 pitches for strikes. San Diego's designated hitter Stephen Deemer stroked 1 hit in 2 AB. Friday 5/19/2078: Joshua Roling dominates St. Louis, gives up just 2 hits KANSAS CITY - It was a great day for Kansas City's right-hander Joshua Roling. The 28-year old recorded his first career shutout, a 2-hitter, against St. Louis on Friday. 'They took some ugly cuts at my breaking stuff, so I kept throwing it. Pittsburgh's southpaw Aaron Rodriguez will not pitch for at least 4-5 weeks, handing the team a huge setback. He suffered a serious injury in a game against San Francisco where he left the field in the 1st inning. Pittsburgh wasted no time and rushed him to an hospital. Team officials were informed later that Rodriguez had suffered a Strained Back Muscle. This season Rodriguez compiled an ERA of 4.54, going 2-3 in 7 starts. Along with his 2000 hits, William collected 118 homeruns and 884 RBI in 15 seasons. 'It's hard to believe that I did it. I want to thank my family, my friends and my teammates!'
