Sunday 10/29/2081: Pittsburgh's Taylor named Cy Young Award
All the hard work finally paid off for Detroit's Gregory Hillyard. The right-hander was named the Cy Young Award winner in the American League today. This season Hillyard compiled an ERA of 2.45, going 21-8 in 35 starts. He fanned 239 while giving up 194 hits in 257.1 innings. He has 5 complete games and 4 shutouts. He's 1st in the American League in ERA and 1st in wins! Michael Taylor was named the National League Cy Young Award winner today. Pittsburgh's right-hander put up fabulous numbers this year which earned him the highest award a pitcher can receive. His ERA of 2.91 helped him to a 21-7 record this year. He struck out 322 and walked 80 in 256.1 innings. He has 11 complete games and 6 shutouts. He's 2nd in the National League in ERA and 1st in wins! Taylor wins the award for the 3rd time in his 6-year career.
 
Sunday 10/29/2081: Clarke and Rivera win JJGuards MVP Award
A season for the ages earned Baltimore's centerfielder Scott Clarke the American League JJGuards MVP Award this year. His season numbers are: .269 AVG, 158 hits, 32 doubles, 9 triples and 46 longballs, along with 132 RBI and 114 runs scored. He's 1st in the American League in RBIs and 1st in homeruns! Clarke wins the award for the 2nd time in his 9-year career. The National League JJGuards MVP Award goes to Alex Rivera this year. He had an extraordinary season as well! His season features a batting average of .300 (166 hits in 553 AB), 38 doubles, no triples and 45 homeruns. Rivera collected 152 RBI and 110 runs as well. He's 1st in the National League in RBIs and 1st in homeruns! Rivera wins the award for the 2nd time in his 13-year career.
 
Sunday 10/29/2081: Kansas City's Boan earns Rookie of the Year Award
William Boan was named the American League Rookie of the Year Award winner today. Kansas City's third baseman put up pretty good numbers for a rookie this year. This 22 year old kid will probably have a long and successful career! This year Boan drove in 91 and scored 77 runs while batting .290 with 16 taters. The 2081 National League Rookie of the Year Award winner is from Arizona this season. Aaron Denning put together impressive numbers for a rookie en route to win the first major award of his career. Let's hope more will follow for this 23 year old ballplayer. His season numbers are: .316 AVG, 166 hits, 31 doubles, one triple and 22 homeruns, along with 99 RBI and 113 runs scored. He's 5th in the National League in batting!
 
Monday 10/16/2081: Pittsburgh's Ortiz out for 4-5 weeks
PITTSBURGH - Pittsburgh's season took a blow when Adrian Ortiz suffered a serious injury in the game against Arizona. He hurt his arm throwing a strike to first base. Ortiz will probaby miss 4-5 weeks. Pittsburgh wasted no time and rushed him to an hospital. Team officials were informed later that Ortiz had suffered a Torn Tricep Muscle. This year Ortiz drove in 43 and scored 72 runs while batting .253 with 12 homeruns.
 
Sunday 10/8/2081: Paul Lunde out for 8 weeks
KANSAS CITY - Kansas City is without its lefty Paul Lunde for at least 8 weeks. He injured himself while throwing a pitch to Benny Frias in a game against Los Angeles (A). His face showed signs of pain immediately after the ball left his hand. Lunde was rushed to an hospital near the ballpark, where doctors took x-rays. Those revealed the serious injury, Broken Elbow. His ERA of 3.56 helped him to a 2-3 record this year. He struck out 83 and walked 27 in 81 innings.
 
Monday 10/2/2081: Torrealba and Lock win Player of the Week award
It's the 2nd time that the American League Player of the Week award goes to Kansas City's rightfielder Luis Torrealba. In 18 at bats he hit .722 with 2 HR and 4 RBI. Nicholas Lock wins his 2nd Player of the Week award. National League pitchers couldn't figure out how to retire this guy all week long. Nicholas went 10 for 19 (.526), while hitting 1 HR and collecting 8 RBI.
 
Sunday 10/1/2081: Pitcher of the Month award winners announced
The best month of September in the American League certainly had Los Angeles (A)'s right-hander Reinaldo Santiago, earning him the Pitcher of the Month award. He had an ERA of just 1.86 in 38.2 innings of work in which he struck out 43 hitters. His record in September is 6-0. His ERA of 3.00 helped him to a 21-7 record this year. He struck out 261 and walked 98 in 225 innings. He's 7th in the American League in ERA and 1st in wins! Philadelphia's Raymond Bare had a terrific September, and it earned him the National League Pitcher of the month award. His ERA of just 0.84 helped him to a 3-0 record in September. He worked 42.2 innings, striking out 53 hitters while walking 6. In 33 starts this year Raymond struck out 242 batters in 224.1 innings of work. His ERA is 2.13, his record 17-6. He has 2 complete games and 2 shutouts. He's 1st in the National League in ERA and 8th in wins!
 
Sunday 10/1/2081: Arizona's Denning named Batter of the Month
Kansas City's rightfielder Luis Torrealba had some reason to celebrate, as the league named him the American League Batter of the Month. He had an on base percentage of .460 and hit .426, while driving in 20 runs. Torrealba has hit for a .319 average this season. He has 49 extra base hits along with 249 total bases, resulting in a .551 slugging percentage. He's 5th in the American League in batting! The National League's best player of the month was Arizona's Aaron Denning, who wins the award for the 1st time in his career. He had an on base percentage of .536 and hit .440, while driving in 23 runs. Denning has walked 106 times this year and posts a .445 OBP. While batting .316, 166 for 526, he has driven in 99 runs. He's 7th in the National League in batting!
 
Tuesday 9/26/2081: Seth Martineau fires 2-hitter against Chicago (A)
MINNESOTA - Seth Martineau had some fun again. Chicago (A) hitters did not. Minnesota's right-hander gave up just 2 hits in his 2nd shutout of the season. He now has 7 career shutouts in 242 games started. Martineau (14-11) fanned 7 and walked none, throwing 101 pitches. 'I'll have to give a lot of credit to my catcher. He put all the right fingers down today.' Taijirou Kinzo provided Minnesota with the offense Martineau needed as he went 2 for 4, with 3 RBI. Minnesota improved its record to 89-68, scoring 6 runs on 8 hits.
 
Monday 9/25/2081: Oneal and Lock win Player of the Week award
Seattle's second baseman Kyle Oneal had some reason to celebrate, as the league named him the American League Player of the Week. He had an on base percentage of .600 and hit .545, while driving in 6 runs. This year Oneal drove in 92 and scored 69 runs while batting .312 with 15 longballs. He's 8th in the American League in batting! It's the 1st time that the National League Player of the Week award goes to Florida's catcher Nicholas Lock. Nicholas pounded opposing pitchers, hitting .500 with 3 HR and 8 RBI while slugging 1.000. Lock has walked 22 times this year and posts a .398 OBP. While batting .349, 112 for 321, he has driven in 53 runs.
 
Sunday 9/24/2081: Sergio Ibarra fires 2-hitter against San Francisco
SAN FRANCISCO - Florida's right-hander Sergio Ibarra is a great pitcher. And he once again showed his stuff, blanking San Francisco on just 2 hits. It's his 2nd shutout this season, and the 6th time he has done it in his career. 'Hey, that's my job! Everytime I take the mound I give the best I can. And my best stuff was too much for them today.' Ibarra (17-13) struck out an astounding 13 and walked 1, throwing 72 of 107 pitches for strikes. Juan Principato provided Florida with the offense Ibarra needed as he got 2 hits in 4 AB, homering twice, scoring two runs and driving in 5 runs. The final score of the game was 5-0.
 
Sunday 9/24/2081: Oakland's Jesus Mazza laces 2000th career hit
TEXAS - Oakland's first baseman Jesus Mazza already had some highlights in his career, and today he added another one, getting his 2000th career hit. His hit in the 1st inning was a three run homerun off George Anaya. His best year so far was 2071 where he hit .306 with 62 homeruns and 144 RBI. 'It's hard to believe that I did it. I want to thank my family, my friends and my teammates!'
 
Friday 9/22/2081: James Yan (CHA) will miss 5 weeks
CHICAGO (A) - Chicago (A)'s southpaw James Yan suffered a severe injury on Friday and will be out for at least 5 weeks. In the 8th of the game against Seattle he experienced pain in his throwing arm and had to leave the game. Doctors examined him after the game and diagnosed a Ruptured Tricep Tendon which will require surgery. In 0 starts this year James struck out 28 batters in 33 innings of work. His ERA is 1.64, his record 1-1.
 
Thursday 9/21/2081: Huge blow for Los Angeles (N)'s Smith, career over
LOS ANGELES (N) - Los Angeles (N)'s rightfielder Markus Smith hurt himself in the 8th inning while diving for a batted ball. He got up slowly and had to leave the game. Markus Smith will miss at least entire career. Los Angeles (N) wasted no time and rushed him to an hospital. Team officials were informed later that Smith had suffered a Ruptured Disc Back. Smith has walked 82 times this year and posts a .327 OBP. While batting .223, 121 for 543, he has driven in 70 runs.
 
Monday 9/18/2081: Player of the Week honors go to Coelho and Rivera
It's the 1st time that the American League Player of the Week award goes to Kansas City's first baseman William Coelho. In 27 at bats he hit .444 with 2 HR and 8 RBI. The Player of the Week award in the National League goes to Philadelphia's Alex Rivera this time, as the first baseman displayed the best offensive perfomance in his league. He hit .500 with 14 RBI and slugged 1.091 in 22 at bats.
 
Sunday 9/17/2081: Jay Reddish fires NO-NO against San Francisco
SAN DIEGO - Jay Reddish had his best stuff going, and San Francisco hitters were chanceless. San Diego's right-hander fired a NO-NO, his 1st shutout of the season. 'Today I just felt great. I had a good feeling while warming up, and I knew something special was about to happen.' Reddish (6-7) struck out 3 and issued 5 BB, throwing 61 of 110 pitches for strikes. The hitting star for San Diego was centerfielder Wesley Ojeda, he went 2 for 4, with 3 RBI. San Diego improved its record to 70-79, scoring 7 runs on 7 hits.
 
Friday 9/15/2081: Luis Segura has 2000th career hits
ST. LOUIS - St. Louis' leftfielder Luis Segura was in good mood after the game against Houston, and he had every reason as he made some history while collecting his 2000th career hit. Along with his 2000 hits, Luis collected 252 homeruns and 1119 RBI in 16 seasons. 'Good things happen when you put the bat on the ball.' His hit in the 1st inning was a single off Michael Shim.
 
Friday 9/15/2081: Nathan Barnett blisters three bombs
BOSTON - Boston beat Toronto 7-6, but that was not the real story of the game. Nathan Barnett was, as he went deep three times. His 1st shot, off Neal Robinson in the 1st inning, was a solo homerun and cleared the fence in right field. A pitch from Neal Robinson in the 5th inning left his bat for a two-run homerun, landing 430 feet from home plate in right field. Number 3 in the 9th inning, a shot estimated at 348 feet, cleared the wall in left field. His final blast of the game capped his performance as it won the game, setting the crowd on fire! Overall he stroked 3 hits in 5 AB, scoring three times and collecting 5 RBI. In 3617 career at bats, he has hit 75 homeruns and collected 371 RBI.
 
Tuesday 9/12/2081: Kansas City's Almanza out for 5 weeks
KANSAS CITY - When it rains, it pours. Kansas City's southpaw Ferdy Almanza will not pitch for at least 5 weeks, handing the team a huge setback. He suffered a serious injury in a game against Texas where he left the field in the 6th inning. Kansas City wasted no time and rushed him to an hospital. Team officials were informed later that Almanza had suffered a Inflamed Rotator Cuff Muscle. Ferdy has a record of 9-7 this season, with an ERA of 3.60. In 130 Innings he was able to strike out 103 batters.
 
Tuesday 9/12/2081: Michael Taylor fires 2-hitter against Milwaukee
PITTSBURGH - Pittsburgh's right-hander Michael Taylor is clearly one of the best pitchers in the game. Milwaukee found out the hard way, getting just 2 hits. Taylor 6th shutout this season was a masterpiece, as he was almost untouchable. He has now hurled 18th shutouts in his career. 'I'll have to give a lot of credit to my catcher. He put all the right fingers down today.' Taylor (20-7) struck out 6 and walked 3, throwing 52 of 97 pitches for strikes. Brandon Lykins provided Pittsburgh with the offense Taylor needed as he finished with 3 hits in 4 AB, doubling twice, scoring two runs. Pittsburgh scored 8 runs on 12 hits.
 
Monday 9/11/2081: San Francisco's Smith wins Player of the Week award
Seattle's third baseman Gary Rasheed had some reason to celebrate, as the league named him the American League Player of the Week. In 22 at bats he hit .500 with 1 HR and 4 RBI. Bill Smith of San Francisco wins his 1st Player of the Week award for dominating National League's hitters the entire week. Smith was overpowering all week long, going 2-0 with an ERA of 3.38. Along the way he struck out 16 in 16 innings. He hurled a shutout as well. This season Smith compiled an ERA of 4.60, going 11-12 in 29 starts. He fanned 213 while giving up 169 hits in 199.2 innings. Bill has pitched 2 shutouts and 3 complete games.
 
Thursday 9/7/2081: San Francisco's Raht out for the season
SAN FRANCISCO - San Francisco's lefty Nestor Raht experienced probably the worst case scenario for a pitcher, a season ending injury. After pitching in the 5th inning of the game against Atlanta, Raht complained about serious pain in his throwing arm. He had to leave the game. Ruptured Disc Back was the diagnosis after x-rays were taken in a nearby hospital. The message shocked teammates and team officials. Nestor has a record of 11-8 this season, with an ERA of 4.63. In 167 Innings he was able to strike out 175 batters.
 
Wednesday 9/6/2081: Michael Taylor blanks Atlanta with a 2-hitter
ATLANTA - Michael Taylor had some fun again. Atlanta hitters did not. Pittsburgh's right-hander gave up just 2 hits in his 5th shutout of the season. He now has 17 career shutouts in 245 games started. 'Wow, what a nice day. I guess I had a good breakfast today.' Taylor (19-7) was overpowering, fanning 10 while walking 2, throwing 111 pitches. Adrian Ortiz helped Taylor at the plate, he collected 2 hits in 4 trips to the plate, blasting a homerun, stroking a double, with 2 RBI. Pittsburgh improved its record to 92-46, scoring 3 runs on 7 hits.
 
Wednesday 9/6/2081: Bobby Ohara NO-HITS Seattle
DETROIT - With his best stuff going, Detroit's Bobby Ohara overmatched the opposing hitters all day long. Seattle had no chance, getting NO hits against the right-hander. 'My catcher called a very good game. I have to give credit to him. He was the main reason I accomplished this feat.' Ohara (10-13) struck out 6 and issued 4 BB, throwing 55 of 91 pitches for strikes. The hitting star for Detroit was second baseman Santo Dacosta, he got 4 hits in 5 AB, and collecting 3 RBI. Detroit improved its record to 72-69, scoring 10 runs on 14 hits.
 
Tuesday 9/5/2081: John Metivier stars with 600th career homerun
DETROIT - Seattle's designated hitter John Metivier made baseball history today, collecting his 600th career homerun! Along with his 600 homeruns, John collected 2484 hits and 1883 RBI in 15 seasons. John has managed to hit 30+ homeruns in a season 11 times, and he topped 40 homeruns 9 times. 'Good things happen when you put the bat on the ball.' His historic shot, off George Levitt in the 2nd inning, was a solo homerun and cleared the fence in left field. The Hall of Fame already has reserved a place for this great player.
 
Monday 9/4/2081: Bill Smith dominates Los Angeles (N), throws NO-HITTER
LOS ANGELES (N) - San Francisco's right-hander Bill Smith made some history today, firing a no-hitter against Los Angeles (N). Their hitters found out the hard way that he is among the leagues top pitchers, never having a chance against his overpowering stuff. Douglas Ellis spoiled the bid for a perfect game when he walked with 1 away in the 6th inning. 'I really like to play baseball, and I love the way I was able to play it today. I still cannot believe I did it.' Smith (10-12) was overpowering, fanning 10 while walking 4, throwing 131 pitches. Tsuruki Juichi helped Smith at the plate, he stroked 2 hits in 4 AB, blasting a homerun, scoring twice. San Francisco scored 6 runs on 7 hits.
 
Monday 9/4/2081: Gary Martin quiets Atlanta bats with shutout
ATLANTA - Great days are rare. But not for Pittsburgh's right-hander Gary Martin. Atlanta found out the hard way that he is among the leagues top pitchers, getting just 2 hits. It's his 1st shutout this season, and the 10th time he has done it in his career. 'Winning is the most important thing. And I gave my team all the support it needed!' Martin (19-8) struck out an astounding 15 and walked 1, throwing 71 of 114 pitches for strikes. Peter Chavarria helped Martin at the plate, he collected 1 hit in 3 trips to the plate, homering once. Pittsburgh scored 2 runs on 5 hits.
 
Monday 9/4/2081: Torrealba and Ornelas win Player of the Week award
The American League's best player of the week was Kansas City's Luis Torrealba, who wins the award for the 1st time in his career. In 18 at bats he hit .556 with 2 HR and 5 RBI. It's the 3rd time that the National League Player of the Week award goes to Pittsburgh's first baseman Luis Ornelas. He hit .542 with 9 RBI and slugged 1.167 in 24 at bats. He now has homered in 3 consecutive games as well! His season features a batting average of .276 (150 hits in 544 AB), 36 doubles, one triple and 28 homeruns. Ornelas collected 85 RBI and 85 runs as well.
 
Sunday 9/3/2081: Emanuel Sandoval turns in great performance against Texas
TEXAS - Emanuel Sandoval had some fun again. Texas hitters did not. New York (A)'s right-hander gave up just 2 hits in his 1st shutout of the season. He now has 7 career shutouts in 460 games started. 'My catcher called a very good game. I have to give credit to him.' Sandoval (14-7) was overpowering, fanning 12 while walking 2, throwing 112 pitches. New York (A)'s catcher Thomas Holsinger finished 4 for 6, stroking a double, scoring 2 runs with 4 RBI. That was enough to support the brilliant performance of Sandoval. The final score of the game was 13-0.
 
Friday 9/1/2081: Oakland's Duell earns Pitcher of the Month award
Winner of this months American League Pitcher of the Month award is Oakland's Richard Duell. His ERA of just 0.89 helped him to a 4-0 record in August. He worked 40.2 innings, striking out 37 hitters while walking 7. Richard pitched a shutout as well. Richard has a record of 16-5 this season, with an ERA of 2.67. In 209 Innings he was able to strike out 190 batters. Richard has pitched 3 shutouts and 8 complete games. He's 5th in the American League in ERA and 4th in wins! Arizona's Brandon Cross had a terrific August, and it earned him the National League Pitcher of the month award. He had an ERA of just 1.59 in 39.2 innings of work in which he struck out 38 hitters. His record in August is 4-1. Brandon pitched a shutout as well. His ERA of 3.14 helped him to a 17-9 record this year. He struck out 189 and walked 81 in 209.1 innings. He has 7 complete games and 4 shutouts. He's 5th in the National League in ERA and 3rd in wins!
 
Friday 9/1/2081: Batter of the Month award winners announced
James Sermons of Kansas City wins his 1st Batter of the Month award for putting up the best numbers in the American League. James pounded opposing pitchers, hitting .419 with 7 and 29 RBI while slugging .767. While compiling an on base percentage of .348, James hit .289 and slugged .508. He has collected 74 runs batted in this year. The National League Batter of the Month award goes to Eduardo Corujo, Milwaukee's starting centerfielder. Eduardo pounded opposing pitchers, hitting .339 with 13 and 33 RBI while slugging .817. His season numbers are: .267 AVG, 138 hits, 33 doubles, 3 triples and 37 bombs, along with 119 RBI and 76 runs scored. He's 2nd in the National League in RBIs and 2nd in homeruns!
 
Monday 8/28/2081: Washington's Lasseter wins Player of the Week award
Toronto's catcher Jesus Baeza had some reason to celebrate, as the league named him the American League Player of the Week. Jesus was on fire, hitting .417 with 4 HR and 11 RBI. The National League's best player of the week was Washington's Dallas Lasseter, who wins the award for the 16th time in his career. Dallas was on fire, hitting .423 with 3 HR and 13 RBI. He has hit 20 taters while batting .287 this season. His 135 hits and 44 walks add up to a .350 on-base percentage.

PITTSBURGH - Pittsburgh's right-hander Michael Taylor is clearly one of the best pitchers in the game. St. Louis found out the hard way, getting just 2 hits. Taylor 4th shutout this season was a masterpiece, as he was almost untouchable. He has now hurled 16th shutouts in his career. 'They took some ugly cuts at my breaking stuff, so I kept throwing it. Fortunately they were not able to adjust in time.' Taylor (18-7) struck out an astounding 13 and walked 3, throwing 80 of 136 pitches for strikes. The hitting star for Pittsburgh was second baseman Damien Andrews, he collected 2 hits in 4 trips to the plate, homering once, stroking a double, scoring two runs with 3 RBI. Pittsburgh scored 4 runs on 5 hits.

ARIZONA - Arizona's right-hander Brandon Cross is clearly one of the best pitchers in the game. Houston found out the hard way, getting just 2 hits. Cross 4th shutout this season was a masterpiece, as he was almost untouchable. He has now hurled 6th shutouts in his career. Cross (17-9) was overpowering, fanning 10 while walking 2, throwing 116 pitches. 'I was hitting my spots. Now I'll start concentrating on my next start, and hopefully it will work again.' Michael Rath helped Cross at the plate, he stroked 2 hits in 4 AB, doubling once. Arizona improved its record to 81-50, scoring 1 run on 4 hits.
 
Sunday 8/27/2081: Seattle's Kyle Oneal gets milestone hit
SEATTLE - Seattle's second baseman Kyle Oneal already had some highlights in his career, and today he added another one, getting his 2000th career hit. His hit in the 12th inning was a single off Antony Read. Along with his 2000 hits, Kyle collected 170 homeruns and 1012 RBI in 13 seasons. 'Wow. That is all I can say now. I'm thrilled.'
 
Tuesday 8/22/2081: Cecil Simpkins uncorks cycle hits against Washington
WASHINGTON - Cecil Simpkins hits 'em where they ain't. Washington certainly agrees as Atlanta's leftfielder unloaded four hits and hitting for the cycle. In the 3rd inning he unloaded a two-run homerun off Gerald Belisle. A single in the 5th off Ivan Manrique accounted for his 2nd hit. In the 7th inning he belted a RBI double off Amos Suarez. Hit number 4 followed in the 8th inning, a triple. That drive completed the cycle, causing a smile on his face! Cecil scored 2 runs, and he collected 4 RBI as well! He now has a total of 117 hits this season, accounting for a .291 batting average. 343 players in league history have so far hit for the cycle, including Cecil. Chris Redington was the last player to hit for the cycle, doing it 7/15/2081.

It's the 1st time that the American League Player of the Week award goes to Kansas City's centerfielder James Sermons. James pounded opposing pitchers, hitting .636 with 3 HR and 12 RBI while slugging 1.227. Sermons has walked 32 times this year and posts a .346 OBP. While batting .287, 106 for 369, he has driven in 68 runs. The Player of the Week award in the National League goes to Milwaukee's Eduardo Corujo this time, as the centerfielder displayed the best offensive perfomance in his league. Eduardo pounded opposing pitchers, hitting .517 with 5 HR and 12 RBI while slugging 1.207.

HOUSTON - Houston's Alberto Alvarez overmatched the opposing hitters all day long. Cincinnati had no chance, collecting just one hit against the right-hander. 'Giving my team a chance to win is the most important thing for me. I was able to do it today.' Alvarez (10-12) fanned 4 and walked 2, throwing 128 pitches. The hitting star for Houston was leftfielder Joe France, he finished with 2 hits in 4 AB, hitting a homerun, and driving in 2 runs. Houston improved its record to 56-67, scoring 6 runs on 7 hits.

Perhaps his best year so far was 2071 where he hit .306 with 62 homeruns and 144 RBI. Jesus hit 30+ homeruns in a season 9 times, hitting 40 bombs 4 times. ATLANTA - It was a great day for Washington's right-hander David Migliore. The 28-year old recorded his first career shutout, a 2-hitter, against Atlanta on Wednesday. 'I'll have to give a lot of credit to my catcher. He put all the right fingers down today.' Migliore (7-10) fanned 3 and walked none, throwing 102 pitches. The hitting star for Washington was shortstop Leonard McPhee, he stroked 1 hit in 3 AB, hitting a homerun, scoring two runs and collecting 3 RBI. Tuesday 8/8/2081: Claver Cadena (CHA) will miss 8-9 weeks
CHICAGO (A) - When it rains, it pours. Chicago (A)'s left-hander Claver Cadena will not pitch for at least 8-9 weeks, handing the team a huge setback. He suffered a serious injury in a game against Baltimore where he left the field in the 5th inning. Chicago (A) wasted no time and rushed him to an hospital. Team officials were informed later that Cadena had suffered a Ruptured Elbow Ligament. Opposing players hit .274 against Claver this season. Tuesday 8/8/2081: Gregory Hillyard fires 2-hitter against Kansas City
DETROIT - Gregory Hillyard had some fun again. Kansas City hitters did not. Detroit's right-hander gave up just 2 hits in his 3rd shutout of the season. He now has 13 career shutouts in 241 games started. 'Winning is the most important thing. And I gave my team all the support it needed!' Hillyard (14-5) showed excellent control, walking nobody and fanning 9. Ray Rowe helped Hillyard at the plate, he stroked 2 hits in 3 AB, stroking two 2B's, scoring twice and driving in 2 runs. Detroit improved its record to 58-56, scoring 7 runs on 10 hits.
 
Monday 8/7/2081: Vargas and Cabello win Player of the Week award
Cleveland's shortstop Josue Vargas had some reason to celebrate, as the league named him the American League Player of the Week. Josue was on fire, hitting .565 with 0 HR and 8 RBI. The National League Player of the Week award goes to Elder Cabello, Milwaukee's starting second baseman. In 23 at bats he hit .478 with 5 HR and 6 RBI. OAKLAND - William Garcia got a standing ovation from 40481 fans in Oakland, who witnessed his 3000th career hit. His best year so far was 2079 where he hit .356 with 33 homeruns and 123 RBI. 'Baseball is a great game, and adding something to it's history is smething I've always wanted. What a great day!' His hit in the 1st inning was a single off Salvador Enos. Friday 8/4/2081: Alfredo Apodaca (TEX) will miss 4-5 weeks
TEXAS - Texas' ace Alfredo Apodaca suffered a severe injury on Friday and will be out for at least 4-5 weeks. In the 2nd of the game against Seattle he experienced pain in his throwing arm and had to leave the game. Apodaca was rushed to an hospital near the ballpark, where doctors took x-rays. Those revealed the serious injury, Strained Rotator Cuff Muscle. This season Apodaca compiled an ERA of 4.97, going 6-11 in 25 starts. He fanned 126 while giving up 164 hits in 163 innings.
 
Tuesday 8/1/2081: Arlen Jacobs blanks Tampa Bay with a 1-hitter
TAMPA BAY - It was a great day for Minnesota's right-hander Arlen Jacobs. The 30-year old recorded his first career shutout, a 1-hitter, against Tampa Bay on Tuesday. 'I had my stuff going. Everything I tried worked. What a day!' Jacobs (5-5) fanned 3 and walked 1, throwing 93 pitches. Tuesday 8/1/2081: Pitcher of the Month award winners announced
Chicago (A)'s pitcher Bill Crowley is the American League winner of the Pitcher of the Month award in July. He started 6 games in July, going 5-1 and compiling an ERA of 0.93 in 38.2 innings. Bill fanned 55 hitters. Opposing players hit .219 against Bill this season. While posting an ERA of 2.60 he went 13-5 in 24 starts, fanning 167 and walking 59 hitters. In 118.1 Innings he was able to strike out 154 batters.

The Batter of the Month award in the American League goes to Oakland's William Garcia this time, as the centerfielder displayed the best offensive perfomance in his league. Garcia helped his team with an average of .390 and 27 RBI in 100 at bats. Garcia has walked 22 times this year and posts a .345 OBP. While batting .307, 126 for 411, he has driven in 81 runs. It's the 1st time that the National League Batter of the Month award goes to Colorado's catcher Po-ta Taro. Po-ta was on fire, hitting .367 with 9 homeruns and 17 RBI. The Player of the Week award in the American League goes to Chicago (A)'s Baltasar Velazquez this time, as the third baseman displayed the best offensive perfomance in his league. Baltasar was on fire, hitting .571 with 2 HR and 5 RBI. Chang Smith wins his 1st Player of the Week award. National League pitchers couldn't figure out how to retire this guy all week long. Chang went 13 for 29 (.448), while hitting 5 HR and collecting 8 RBI. Chang is hitting .255 this year, with 103 hits in 404 at bats. He has driven in 69 runs, slugging .540.
 
Sunday 7/30/2081: Oakland's Jaramillo out for 5 weeks
OAKLAND - When it rains, it pours. Oakland's right-hander David Jaramillo will not pitch for at least 5 weeks, handing the team a huge setback. He suffered a serious injury in a game against Tampa Bay where he left the field in the 6th inning. Doctors examined him after the game and diagnosed a Pulled Tricep Muscle which will require surgery. In 22 starts this year David struck out 118 batters in 132.2 innings of work. His ERA is 3.53, his record 6-5.
 
Sunday 7/30/2081: John Beringer fires 1-hitter against Toronto
BALTIMORE - Age doesn't matter. At least Baltimore's left-hander John Beringer shares this opinion. The 40 year old pitched a 1-hit shutout against Toronto, recording his 1st shutout of the season. 'I felt early that I was on top of my game. Fortunately I was able to keep that feeling the entire game.' Beringer (7-7) fanned 6 and walked 2, throwing 101 pitches. He hit in every game this week and extended his hitting streak to 18 games. Omar is hitting .266 this year, with 97 hits in 364 at bats. He has driven in 72 runs, slugging .530. He's 6th in the American League in RBIs and 6th in homeruns! It's the 1st time that the National League Player of the Week award goes to Arizona's catcher Deangelo Bejar. COLORADO - Pittsburgh's first baseman Luis Ornelas was in good mood after the game against Colorado, and he had every reason as he made some history while collecting his 2000th career hit. In 13 years of big league action so far, Luis has compiled a batting average of .279, along with 324 homeruns and 1223 RBI. 'I guess I'll celebrate a bit today. He now has 3 career shutouts in 22 games started. 'Today I just felt great. I had a good feeling while warming up, and I knew something special was about to happen.' Elder Cabello wins his 3rd Player of the Week award. National League pitchers couldn't figure out how to retire this guy all week long. In 16 at bats he hit .500 with 1 HR and 3 RBI. His season features a batting average of .289 (104 hits in 360 AB), 21 doubles, one triple and 11 homeruns. Cabello collected 55 RBI and 58 runs as well.

HOUSTON - Houston's season took a blow when Alberto Villaran suffered a serious injury in the game against San Francisco. He was hurt when ge got bowled over in a scary collision at home plate. Villaran will probaby miss 5 weeks. Doctors examined him after the game and diagnosed a Broken Finger which will require surgery. Alberto is hitting .274 this year, with 78 hits in 285 at bats. He has driven in 43 runs, slugging .446.

TAMPA BAY - Tampa Bay's rightfielder Chris Redington accomplished a difficult feat in a game against Texas, hitting for the cycle to improve his career batting average to .268! In the 2nd inning he unloaded a two-run homerun off Joseph Westberry. A triple off Gregorio Galaz in the 4th inning, accounted for his 2nd hit. In the 6th inning he belted a double off Gregorio Galaz. He had a single Chris did drive in 2 while scoring 3 runs on his own. He now has a total of 67 hits this season, accounting for a .225 batting average. He becomes the 342nd player in league history collect at least a single, double, triple and a homerun in a single game. On 7/4/2081, Martin Cintron was the last player to hit for the cycle.

SAN FRANCISCO - San Francisco is without its ace Benjamin Plata for at least 6 weeks. He injured himself while throwing a pitch to Richard Sanchez in a game against Houston. His face showed signs of pain immediately after the ball left his hand. After being examined by several specialists the diagnosis is clear: Strained Rotator Cuff Muscle. Tijerina collected 56 RBI and 64 runs as well.

Wednesday 7/5/2081: Texas has no chance in a 1-hitter by Gregory Hillyard
TEXAS - Gregory Hillyard had some fun again. Texas hitters did not. Detroit's right-hander gave up just one hit in his 2nd shutout of the season. He now has 12 career shutouts in 235 games started. The bid for a no-hitter was broken up when Rinji Gesshin doubled with two outs in the 9th inning. Hillyard (11-3) was overpowering, fanning 12 while walking none, throwing 96 pitches. 'I was hitting my spots. Now I'll start concentrating on my next start, and hopefully it will work again.' Detroit's designated hitter Ezra Justiz finished 3 for 4, blasting a homerun, stroking a double, and collecting 4 RBI. That was enough to support the brilliant performance of Hillyard. Detroit improved its record to 40-46, scoring 6 runs on 9 hits.

SEATTLE - Great days are rare. But not for Seattle's right-hander Pedro Garcia. Oakland found out the hard way that he is among the leagues top pitchers, getting just 2 hits. It's his 1st shutout this season, and the 17th time he has done it in his career. Garcia (5-1) struck out 9 and walked 2, throwing 72 of 118 pitches for strikes. 'Winning is the most important thing. And I gave my team all the support it needed!' Victor Johnson helped Garcia at the plate, he collected 2 hits in 4 trips to the plate, and collecting 2 RBI. Seattle scored 4 runs on 13 hits.
 
Tuesday 7/4/2081: Martin Cintron ropes four hits, completes cycle
CLEVELAND - Martin Cintron hits 'em where they ain't. Kansas City certainly agrees as Cleveland's rightfielder unloaded four hits and hitting for the cycle. A single in the 1st off Ferdy Almanza accounted for his 1st hit. Number 2 in the 3rd inning, a shot estimated at 396 feet, cleared the wall in right-center. It tied the ballgame at 3. In the 6th inning he belted a RBI double off Daniel Cleland. A pitch from Daniel Cleland in the 8th inning left his bat for a RBI triple. That drive completed the cycle, causing a smile on his face! Monday 7/3/2081: Dallas Lasseter ropes 600th career homerun
ATLANTA - Washington's rightfielder Dallas Lasseter already had some highlights in his career, and today he added a historic one, unloading for his 600th career homerun. Along with his 600 homeruns, Dallas collected 2728 hits and 1888 RBI in 16 seasons. Dallas has managed to hit 30+ homeruns in a season 12 times, and he topped 40 homeruns 10 times. 'I still remember my first hit. But the one today is something special. I'll definitely keep that ball!' A 350 foot drive to left field marked his 600th career bomb, a two-run homerun off David Migliore in the 1st inning. The Hall of Fame already has reserved a place for this great player.
 
Monday 7/3/2081: Valdejuli (KCA) and Rivera (PHI) win P.O.W. award
The Player of the Week award in the American League goes to Kansas City's Alfonzo Valdejuli this time, as the leftfielder displayed the best offensive perfomance in his league. Valdejuli helped his team with an average of .440 and 11 RBI in 25 at bats. Alfonzo has gone 78 for 288 (.271) this season, hitting 15 homeruns and driving in 51 runs. He has scored 49 runs on his own. The National League Player of the Week award goes to Alex Rivera, Philadelphia's starting first baseman. In 20 at bats he hit .450 with 5 HR and 14 RBI.

Michael has a record of 12-3 this season, with an ERA of 2.71. In 129.2 Innings he was able to strike out 164 batters. He has 4 complete games and 3 shutouts. He's 4th in the National League in ERA and 1st in wins!

Tuesday 6/27/2081: Los Angeles (A)'s Kenneth Gardner unloads three times
ARIZONA - Kenneth Gardner powered Los Angeles (A) to a 10-8 win over Arizona. He did it in style by homering three times. His 1st blast, a solo homerun off Albert Rodrigues in the 2nd inning, landed an estimated 389 feet from home plate. In the 8th inning he unloaded a solo homerun off William Caouette. That one tied it at 8 runs apiece. His 3rd shot, a solo homerun off Jeffery Frye in the 10th inning, cleared the fence in left-center. Overall he got 4 hits in 5 AB, scoring FOUR runs and collecting 3 RBI. So far this season he is batting .289 with 10 homers and 45 RBI.
 
Tuesday 6/27/2081: Milwaukee's Elder Cabello has great day with six hits
DETROIT - Milwaukee's designated hitter Elder Cabello accomplished a difficult feat in a 11-6 win over Detroit, drilling six hits to improve his career batting average to .275! A two-run double off George Levitt in the 2nd inning accounted for his 2nd hit. That one tied it at 2 runs apiece. His 4th hit was a RBI double off John Riccardi in the 10th inning. He had singles in the 1st inning , in the 4th (one RBI) , in the 12th inning and in the 16th inning . Elder scored one run, and he collected 4 RBI as well! His 6 hit performance increases his batting average to .268. The final score of the game was 11-6.

Thursday 6/22/2081: 5-hit performance by Cincinnati's Kyle Oneal
CLEVELAND - Kyle Oneal is among the best pure hitters in the game, but his 5 hit performance seemed to surprise even himself. Tuesday 6/20/2081: Po-ta Taro pounds three dingers
COLORADO - Hitting homeruns is one of the most difficult things in sports. To hit three of them in one game is almost sensational. Colorado's catcher Po-ta Taro accomplished that feat in a 13-12 win over Seattle. Number 1 in the 1st inning, a shot estimated at 378 feet, cleared the wall in right field. A 400 foot drive to left field marked his 2nd bomb, a solo homerun off Amador Monroy in the 2nd inning. A pitch from James Philson in the 10th inning left his bat for a solo homerun, landing 417 feet from home plate in right-center. His final homerun proved to be the game winner as well! Po-ta got 4 hits in 4 AB, scoring FOUR times with 4 RBI. On 5/13/2081, Marcos Aguero was the last player to hit 3 dingers in a single game. Colorado improved its record to 37-34, scoring 13 runs on 12 hits.
 
Tuesday 6/20/2081: Claver Cadena (CHA) will miss 6 weeks
CHICAGO (A) - Chicago (A)'s lefty Claver Cadena suffered a severe injury on Tuesday and will be out for at least 6 weeks. In the 6th of the game against Pittsburgh he experienced pain in his throwing arm and had to leave the game. Strained Bicep Muscle was the diagnosis after x-rays were taken in a nearby hospital. MILWAUKEE - It was a great day for Kansas City's southpaw Robert Coss. The 31-year old recorded his first career shutout, a 2-hitter, against Milwaukee on Tuesday. 'I didn't feel that I had good stuff while warming up. But it got better the more I threw the ball. I guess I was lucky.' Coss (4-6) showed excellent control, walking nobody and fanning 9. The Player of the Week award in the American League goes to Seattle's John Metivier this time, as the designated hitter displayed the best offensive perfomance in his league. He had an on base percentage of .542 and hit .500, while driving in 12 runs. Colorado's leftfielder William Kao had some reason to celebrate as well, as the league named him the National League Player of the Week. In 21 at bats he hit .619 with 3 HR and 6 RBI.

It's the 4th time that the American League Pitcher of the Month award goes to New York (A)'s pitcher Emanuel Sandoval. He started 6 games in May, going 4-0 and compiling an ERA of 1.41 in 44.2 innings. Emanuel fanned 51 hitters. In 12 starts this year Emanuel struck out 106 batters in 86.2 innings of work. PHILADELPHIA - Philadelphia's Carlos Garcia showed a smile on his face after he got his 3000th career hit against Baltimore on Sunday.
