Monday 4/17/2083: Blauser (CHA) and Parise (CIN) win P.O.W. award Chicago (A)'s pitcher John Blauser had some reason to celebrate, as the league named him the American League Player of the Week. He was in a zone all week, compiling an ERA of 1.76 while going 2-0. He hurled a shutout as well. The National League's best player of the week was Cincinnati's Kevin Parise, who wins the award for the 1st time in his career. Parise helped his team with an average of .417 and 8 RBI in 24 at bats. Parise has walked 8 times this year and posts a .474 OBP. While batting .388, 19 for 49, he has driven in 15 runs. He's 2nd in the National League in batting and 2nd in RBI! |
Sunday 4/16/2083: Michael Bloss (TEX) will miss 7-8 weeks TEXAS - Texas is without its right-hander Michael Bloss for at least 7-8 weeks. He injured himself while throwing a pitch to Douglas Griffie in a game against Baltimore. His face showed signs of pain immediately after the ball left his hand. After being examined by several specialists the diagnosis is clear: Ruptured Tricep Tendon. In 3 starts this year Michael struck out 11 batters in 13.1 innings of work. His ERA is 10.13, his record 1-0. |
Tuesday 4/11/2083: Boston's Roland Ingrassia slams five hits BALTIMORE - Roland Ingrassia hits 'em where they ain't. Baltimore certainly agrees as Boston's shortstop unloaded five hits, adding to his reputation of being one of the best pure hitters in the game. A 430 foot drive to right-center marked his 1st hit, a solo homerun off John Beringer in the 1st inning. His 5th hit, off Kenton Crespo in the 9th inning, was a solo homerun and cleared the fence in right-center. He collected singles in the 2nd inning , in the 4th inning and in the 7th inning (one RBI). Roland did drive in 3 while scoring 5 runs on his own. He's having a very good season so far, batting .367. Boston improved its record to 4-4, scoring 20 runs on 22 hits. |
Monday 4/10/2083: Sermons and Smith win Player of the Week award The American League's best player of the week was Kansas City's James Sermons, who wins the award for the 3rd time in his career. James went 12 for 23 (.522), while hitting 2 HR and collecting 5 RBI. The National League's best player of the week was San Francisco's Bill Smith, who wins the award for the 2nd time in his career. Bill went 2-0 with an ERA of 1.02, while fanning 22 in 17.2 innings of work. He hurled a shutout as well. |
Sunday 4/9/2083: Elder Cabello nabs five hits against San Diego MILWAUKEE - Milwaukee's designated hitter Elder Cabello once again displayed his tremendous ability to make contact with that little white ball. He tore up San Diego's pitching staff with a 5 hit performance on Sunday. A 392 foot drive to left field marked his 1st hit, a solo homerun off Dale Alicea in the 1st inning. Number 2 in the 3rd inning accounted for a RBI double. In the 7th inning he belted a RBI double off Robert Clanton. He had singles in the 4th inning (two RBIs) and in the 6th (one RBI). Elder did drive in 6 while scoring 4 runs on his own. He's having a very good season so far, batting .400. Milwaukee scored 13 runs on 13 hits. |
Sunday 4/9/2083: James Mechling shuts out San Diego on one hit MILWAUKEE - James Mechling had his best stuff going, and San Diego hitters were chanceless. Milwaukee's right-hander fired a 1-hitter, his 1st shutout of the season. Mechling (1-1) was overpowering, fanning 11 while walking 2, throwing 113 pitches. 'My catcher called a very good game. I have to give credit to him.' Elder Cabello provided Milwaukee with the offense Mechling needed as he went 5 for 5, hitting a homerun, hitting 2 doubles, with FOUR runs scored with 6 RBI. The final score of the game was 13-0. |
Friday 4/7/2083: Season ending injury strikes Texas' Bank TEXAS - Texas' rightfielder Guy Bank suffered a season ending injury when he hurt himself diving for a ball. He collapsed in pain and was helped off the field. Bank was rushed to an hospital near the ballpark, where doctors took x-rays. Those revealed the serious injury, Broken Knee. |
Wednesday 4/5/2083: Ramon Dominguez shuts out Oakland on 2 hits OAKLAND - Baltimore's Ramon Dominguez overmatched the opposing hitters all day long. Oakland had no chance, collecting just 2 hits against the right-hander. Dominguez (1-0) fanned 7 and walked 5, throwing 131 pitches. 'I was able to keep´em off balance. That certainly helped.' Herbert Stotler provided Baltimore with the offense Dominguez needed as he stroked 2 hits in 4 AB, stroking a double, and collecting 3 RBI. Baltimore improved its record to 2-1, scoring 6 runs on 11 hits. |
Sunday 4/2/2083: Dan Arguelles dominates Minnesota, gives up just one hit MINNESOTA - Kansas City's Dan Arguelles overmatched the opposing hitters all day long. Minnesota had no chance, collecting just one hit against the right-hander. Arguelles (1-0) struck out 5 and issued 1 BB, throwing 59 of 100 pitches for strikes. 'I didn't feel that I had good stuff while warming up. But it got better the more I threw the ball. I guess I was lucky.'
