Monday 5/15/2082: Davis and Kimura win Player of the Week award Los Angeles (A)'s third baseman Bill Davis had some reason to celebrate, as the league named him the American League Player of the Week. In 26 at bats he hit .577 with 6 HR and 13 RBI. Atlanta's first baseman Joshua Kimura had some reason to celebrate as well, as the league named him the National League Player of the Week. Joshua was on fire, hitting .520 with 5 HR and 12 RBI. Kimura has hit 9 bombs this year while batting .345. He adds 7 doubles, along with 25 runs scored. He's 6th in the National League in batting and 6th in RBI! |
Sunday 5/14/2082: Alberto Losada punishes Detroit with four hits, cycle DETROIT - Alberto Losada is a pretty good hitter, but his 4 hit performance seemed to surprise even himself considering that the hits added up to the cycle, one of the most difficult things to accomplish in baseball. His 2nd hit, a two-run homerun off Jeffrey Nesmith in the 5th inning, cleared the fence in left field. His 3rd hit was a double off Mark Griego in the 7th inning. A single in the 8th off Raleigh Lugo accounted for his 4th hit. That drive completed the cycle, causing a smile on his face! Alberto scored 2 runs, and he collected 2 RBI as well! He is hitting .270 this season, with 3 HR and 21 RBI. 345 players in league history have so far hit for the cycle, including Alberto. Jose Avila was the last player to hit for the cycle, doing it 4/11/2082. |
Tuesday 5/9/2082: Bill Davis knocks lights out with three homeruns LOS ANGELES (A) - Bill Davis powered Los Angeles (A) to a 16-3 win over Toronto. He did it in style by homering three times. A 373 foot drive to right field marked his 1st bomb, a two-run homerun off Santo Gurrola in the 1st inning. His 2nd blast, a solo homerun off Heriberto Pinelo in the 5th inning, landed an estimated 404 feet from home plate. His 3rd shot, off Wendell Crosswhite in the 7th inning, was a solo homerun and cleared the fence in right field. Overall he collected 5 hits in 5 trips to the plate, with FOUR runs scored with 5 RBI. In 5718 career at bats, he has hit 315 homeruns and collected 1069 RBI. It's pretty obvious that he will enter the Hall of Fame some day! |
Monday 5/8/2082: Los Angeles (A)'s Edwards wins Player of the Week award Darryl Edwards wins his 1st Player of the Week award. American League pitchers couldn't figure out how to retire this guy all week long. In 33 at bats he hit .485 with 3 HR and 11 RBI. He got at least one hit each game this week and is on a 11 game hitting streak right now. Edwards has walked 5 times this year and posts a .386 OBP. While batting .361, 44 for 122, he has driven in 21 runs. He's 3rd in the American League in batting! The National League Player of the Week award goes to Chang Smith, Pittsburgh's starting rightfielder. He had an on base percentage of .533 and hit .517, while driving in 15 runs. He got at least one hit each game this week and is on a 9 game hitting streak right now. He has hit 12 bombs while batting .358 this season. His 44 hits and 15 walks add up to a .426 on-base percentage. He's 3rd in the National League in batting, 2nd in homeruns and 1st in RBI! |
Sunday 5/7/2082: Washington's Lewis severely injured WASHINGTON - Washington's right-hander Sam Lewis suffered a severe injury on Sunday and will be out for at least 5 weeks. In the 7th of the game against Houston he experienced pain in his throwing arm and had to leave the game. Lewis was rushed to an hospital near the ballpark, where doctors took x-rays. Those revealed the serious injury, Spasms Back. This season Lewis compiled an ERA of 4.67, going 1-3 in 0 starts. He fanned 16 while giving up 17 hits in 17.1 innings. |
Thursday 5/4/2082: Sergio Ibarra dominates Atlanta, gives up just 2 hits FLORIDA - Sergio Ibarra had some fun again. Atlanta hitters did not. Florida's right-hander gave up just 2 hits in his 1st shutout of the season. He now has 7 career shutouts in 224 games started. With two outs in the 6th inning Roberto Malave singled to break up the no-hitter. 'They took some ugly cuts at my breaking stuff, so I kept throwing it. Fortunately they were not able to adjust in time.' Ibarra (3-1) was overpowering, fanning 10 while walking none, throwing 98 pitches. Bill Warner provided Florida with the offense Ibarra needed as he went 2 for 3, doubling once, scoring 2 runs. Florida scored 6 runs on 7 hits. |
Tuesday 5/2/2082: Alan Mello out for 7 weeks MILWAUKEE - Milwaukee is without its right-hander Alan Mello for at least 7 weeks. He injured himself while throwing a pitch to Carl Conant in a game against Houston. His face showed signs of pain immediately after the ball left his hand. Ruptured Bicep Tendon was the diagnosis after x-rays were taken in a nearby hospital. The message shocked teammates and team officials. Alan has a record of 2-0 this season, with an ERA of 4.44. In 26.1 Innings he was able to strike out 39 batters. |

Monday 5/1/2082: Texas has no chance in a 1-hitter by Pedro Garcia SEATTLE - Great days are rare. But not for Seattle's right-hander Pedro Garcia. Texas found out the hard way that he is among the leagues top pitchers, getting just one hit. It's his 1st shutout this season, and the 19th time he has done it in his career. 'I was able to keep´em off balance. That certainly helped.' Garcia (4-2) struck out an astounding 13 and walked 1, throwing 67 of 99 pitches for strikes. Alex Aguiar helped Garcia at the plate, he collected 1 hit in 3 trips to the plate, hitting a homerun, with 3 RBI. Seattle improved its record to 12-14, scoring 6 runs on 11 hits. |
Monday 5/1/2082: Pitcher of the Month award winners announced 's Donald Clapper had a terrific April, and it earned him the American League Pitcher of the month award. His record of 3-1 in 6 was among the leagues best this month. In 41.2 innings of work he allowed just 31 hits while striking out 32, compiling an ERA of just 1.30. Melvin Shen pitched like a legend in April, and the National League named him Pitcher of the Month for his extraordinary performance. His ERA of just 0.92 helped him to a 3-0 record in April. Monday 5/1/2082: St. Louis' Shorter named Batter of the Month Toyoaki Makoto of Chicago (A) wins his 0th Batter of the Month award for putting up the best numbers in the American League. Toyoaki was on fire, hitting .344 with 9 homeruns and 24 RBI. The National League Batter of the Month award goes to Larry Shorter, St. Louis' starting second baseman. Larry was on fire, hitting .358 with 11 homeruns and 18 RBI. |
Monday 5/1/2082: Atlanta's Gandy wins Player of the Week award The American League Player of the Week award goes to Richard Moncayo, one of Chicago (A)'s best starting pitchers. He was in a zone all week, compiling an ERA of 0.55 while going 2-0. He hurled a shutout as well. Opposing players hit .228 against Richard this season. While posting an ERA of 4.97 he went 2-2 in 6 starts, fanning 34 and walking 17 hitters. He has one complete game and one shutout. The National League's best player of the week was Atlanta's Richard Gandy, who wins the award for the 3rd time in his career. Richard went 14 for 26 (.538), while hitting 4 HR and collecting 8 RBI. Gandy has hit for a .367 average this season. He has 13 extra base hits along with 58 total bases, resulting in a .644 slugging percentage. He's 4th in the National League in batting! |
Friday 4/28/2082: Ricardo Campos collects five hits against Texas MINNESOTA - 'You know, in batting practice I didn't really feel that comfortable about my stroke today, but baseball is more than hitting. Then, when you're not trying to force a hit, you slug them in droves,' says Ricardo Campos after his 5 hit game, which Minnesota won 14-2 against Texas. His 1st hit, a solo homerun off Ji-ku Naganori in the 1st inning, landed an estimated 395 feet from home plate. His 4th hit, a two-run homerun off John Adler in the 6th inning, cleared the fence in right field. He had singles in the 3rd , in the 5th and in the 8th inning . Ricardo did drive in 3 while scoring 4 runs on his own. This season has been a good one for him so far, as he has 28 hits in 86 at bats, resulting in a .326 batting average. |
Tuesday 4/25/2082: Emanuel Sandoval out for 7 weeks NEW YORK (A) - When it rains, it pours. New York (A)'s right-hander Emanuel Sandoval will not pitch for at least 7 weeks, handing the team a huge setback. He suffered a serious injury in a game against Baltimore where he left the field in the 6th inning. After being taken to a local hospital, Sandoval was examined by specialists. The diagnosis revealed the sad truth, a Bone Chips Elbow. In 5 starts this year Emanuel struck out 42 batters in 36.1 innings of work. His ERA is 1.98, his record 2-2. |
Monday 4/24/2082: Zuņiga (NYA) and Opitz (CHN) win P.O.W. award Omar Zuņiga wins his 12th Player of the Week award. American League pitchers couldn't figure out how to retire this guy all week long. Omar was on fire, hitting .478 with 3 HR and 7 RBI. Luis Opitz from Chicago (N) wins his 1st Player of the Week award for putting up the best numbers this week in the National League. Luis pounded opposing pitchers, hitting .552 with 3 HR and 9 RBI while slugging 1.103. |
Saturday 4/22/2082: James Mechling shuts out Pittsburgh on 2 hits PITTSBURGH - James Mechling had some fun again. Pittsburgh hitters did not. Milwaukee's right-hander gave up just 2 hits in his 1st shutout of the season. He now has 13 career shutouts in 286 games started. 'Hey, that's my job! Everytime I take the mound I give the best I can. And my best stuff was too much for them today.' Mechling (2-2) was overpowering, fanning 10 while walking none, throwing 112 pitches. Milwaukee's third baseman Herman Boothby collected 3 hits in 4 trips to the plate, doubling once, scoring twice. That was enough to support the brilliant performance of Mechling. Milwaukee scored 6 runs on 9 hits. |
Saturday 4/22/2082: Chicago (N)'s Luis Opitz has great day with five hits CINCINNATI - Chicago (N)'s leftfielder Luis Opitz once again displayed his tremendous ability to make contact with that little white ball. He tore up Cincinnati's pitching staff with a 5 hit performance on Saturday. His 1st hit, a solo homerun off Odon Lerma in the 1st inning, cleared the fence in right field. A double off Odon Lerma in the 5th inning accounted for his 3rd hit. Number 4 in the 6th inning accounted for a RBI double. He collected singles in the 2nd inning (one RBI) and in the 7th . Luis scored 3 runs, and he collected 3 RBI as well! He's having a very good season so far, batting .338. Chicago (N) improved its record to 9-10, scoring 17 runs on 17 hits. |
Tuesday 4/18/2082: Kansas City's Lunde severely injured KANSAS CITY - Kansas City's pitcher Paul Lunde was part of a scary incident that saw the lefty being hit by a line drive in the 10th inning of the game between Kansas City and Seattle. Team trainers immediately rushed onto the field after the frightening scene. Lunde will miss about 5 weeks. After x-rays were taken the diagnosis did not surprise many: Fractured Hand. Surgery will be performed next week. Paul has a record of 0-0 this season, with an ERA of 2.70. In 3.1 Innings he was able to strike out 5 batters. |

Tuesday 4/11/2082: Los Angeles (A)'s Jose Avila hits for the cycle DETROIT - Jose Avila led Los Angeles (A) to a 12-1 win over Detroit by squeezing four hits out of his bat. That's not the best part, though. He hit for the cycle as well! Number 1 in the 2nd inning accounted for a RBI double. A pitch from George Levitt in the 3rd inning left his bat for a two-run triple. A single in the 5th off Lee Marden accounted for his 3rd hit. A 359 foot drive to left field marked his 4th hit, a two-run homerun off John Riccardi in the 7th inning. That drive completed the cycle, causing a smile on his face! Jose did drive in 5 while scoring 3 runs on his own. He's having a very good season so far, batting .367. He becomes the 344th player in league history collect at least a single, double, triple and a homerun in a single game. Cecil Simpkins was the last player to hit for the cycle, doing it 8/22/2081. |

He was in a zone all week, compiling an ERA of 0.53 while going 2-0. He hurled a shutout as well. Florida's pitcher Samuel Castro had some reason to celebrate as well, as the league named him the National League Player of the Week. Castro was overpowering all week long, going 2-0 with an ERA of 0.54. Along the way he struck out 17 in 16.2 innings. He hurled a shutout as well. |
