Monday 7/10/2081: Player of the Week honors go to Cintron and Tijerina
It's the 4th time that the American League Player of the Week award goes to Cleveland's rightfielder Martin Cintron. Martin went 13 for 31 (.419), while hitting 4 HR and collecting 13 RBI. He hit in every game this week and extended his hitting streak to 7 games. It's the 5th time that the National League Player of the Week award goes to Pittsburgh's leftfielder Pedro Tijerina. Pedro was on fire, hitting .483 with 3 HR and 9 RBI. His season features a batting average of .311 (108 hits in 347 AB), 31 doubles, 6 triples and 14 bombs. Tijerina collected 56 RBI and 64 runs as well.
 
Thursday 7/6/2081: Junior Estevez out for 6 weeks
TEXAS - When it rains, it pours. Texas' right-hander Junior Estevez will not pitch for at least 6 weeks, handing the team a huge setback. He suffered a serious injury in a game against Oakland where he left the field in the 2nd inning. After being taken to a local hospital, Estevez was examined by specialists. The diagnosis revealed the sad truth, a Ruptured Tricep Tendon. Junior has a record of 2-4 this season, with an ERA of 3.22. In 64.1 Innings he was able to strike out 47 batters. Junior has pitched one shutout and one complete game.
 
Wednesday 7/5/2081: New York (N)'s Lamela out for 5-6 weeks
NEW YORK (N) - New York (N)'s rightfielder Miguel Lamela will miss about 5-6 weeks after he hurt himself badly in the 7th inning of the game between New York (N) and Los Angeles (N). He dove for a drive off the bat of Vernon Cantu, and immediately signaled that he's not OK after hitting the ground. New York (N) wasted no time and rushed him to an hospital. Team officials were informed later that Lamela had suffered a Herniated Disc Back. Lamela has hit for a .289 average this season. He has 35 extra base hits along with 141 total bases, resulting in a .509 slugging percentage.
 
Wednesday 7/5/2081: Texas has no chance in a 1-hitter by Gregory Hillyard
TEXAS - Gregory Hillyard had some fun again. Texas hitters did not. Detroit's right-hander gave up just one hit in his 2nd shutout of the season. He now has 12 career shutouts in 235 games started. The bid for a no-hitter was broken up when Rinji Gesshin doubled with two outs in the 9th inning. Hillyard (11-3) was overpowering, fanning 12 while walking none, throwing 96 pitches. 'I was hitting my spots. Now I'll start concentrating on my next start, and hopefully it will work again.' Detroit's designated hitter Ezra Justiz finished 3 for 4, blasting a homerun, stroking a double, and collecting 4 RBI. That was enough to support the brilliant performance of Hillyard. Detroit improved its record to 40-46, scoring 6 runs on 9 hits.
 
Wednesday 7/5/2081: Oakland has no chance in a 2-hitter by Pedro Garcia
SEATTLE - Great days are rare. But not for Seattle's right-hander Pedro Garcia. Oakland found out the hard way that he is among the leagues top pitchers, getting just 2 hits. It's his 1st shutout this season, and the 17th time he has done it in his career. Garcia (5-1) struck out 9 and walked 2, throwing 72 of 118 pitches for strikes. 'Winning is the most important thing. And I gave my team all the support it needed!' Victor Johnson helped Garcia at the plate, he collected 2 hits in 4 trips to the plate, and collecting 2 RBI. Seattle scored 4 runs on 13 hits.
 
Tuesday 7/4/2081: Martin Cintron ropes four hits, completes cycle
CLEVELAND - Martin Cintron hits 'em where they ain't. Kansas City certainly agrees as Cleveland's rightfielder unloaded four hits and hitting for the cycle. A single in the 1st off Ferdy Almanza accounted for his 1st hit. Number 2 in the 3rd inning, a shot estimated at 396 feet, cleared the wall in right-center. It tied the ballgame at 3. In the 6th inning he belted a RBI double off Daniel Cleland. A pitch from Daniel Cleland in the 8th inning left his bat for a RBI triple. That drive completed the cycle, causing a smile on his face! Martin did drive in 4 while scoring 2 runs on his own. His 4 hit performance increases his batting average to .237. He becomes the 341st player in league history collect at least a single, double, triple and a homerun in a single game. On 9/2/2080, Tyrone Callan was the last player to hit for the cycle.
 
Tuesday 7/4/2081: Boston's Karsten out for 5 weeks
BOSTON - Boston is without its right-hander James Karsten for at least 5 weeks. He injured himself while throwing a pitch to Buddy Lafontaine in a game against Los Angeles (A). His face showed signs of pain immediately after the ball left his hand. Boston wasted no time and rushed him to an hospital. Team officials were informed later that Karsten had suffered a Pulled Tricep Muscle. In 16 starts this year James struck out 97 batters in 105 innings of work. His ERA is 4.11, his record 6-5.
 
Monday 7/3/2081: Dallas Lasseter ropes 600th career homerun
ATLANTA - Washington's rightfielder Dallas Lasseter already had some highlights in his career, and today he added a historic one, unloading for his 600th career homerun. Along with his 600 homeruns, Dallas collected 2728 hits and 1888 RBI in 16 seasons. Dallas has managed to hit 30+ homeruns in a season 12 times, and he topped 40 homeruns 10 times. 'I still remember my first hit. But the one today is something special. I'll definitely keep that ball!' A 350 foot drive to left field marked his 600th career bomb, a two-run homerun off David Migliore in the 1st inning. The Hall of Fame already has reserved a place for this great player.
 
Monday 7/3/2081: Valdejuli (KCA) and Rivera (PHI) win P.O.W. award
The Player of the Week award in the American League goes to Kansas City's Alfonzo Valdejuli this time, as the leftfielder displayed the best offensive perfomance in his league. Valdejuli helped his team with an average of .440 and 11 RBI in 25 at bats. Alfonzo has gone 78 for 288 (.271) this season, hitting 15 homeruns and driving in 51 runs. He has scored 49 runs on his own. The National League Player of the Week award goes to Alex Rivera, Philadelphia's starting first baseman. In 20 at bats he hit .450 with 5 HR and 14 RBI.
 
Saturday 7/1/2081: Hillyard (DET) and Taylor (PIT) win monthly pitcher award
The best month of June in the American League certainly had Detroit's right-hander Gregory Hillyard, earning him the Pitcher of the Month award. He had an ERA of just 0.74 in 48.1 innings of work in which he struck out 46 hitters. His record in June is 6-0. Gregory pitched a shutout as well. In 18 starts this year Gregory struck out 134 batters in 132 innings of work. His ERA is 2.11, his record 10-3. Gregory has pitched one shutout and 2 complete games. He's 1st in the American League in ERA and 2nd in wins! Michael Taylor couldn't have pitched much better than he did in June, and the National League thought so as well, naming the right-hander Pitcher of the Month. He had an ERA of just 0.93 in 48.1 innings of work in which he struck out 61 hitters. His record in June is 5-1. Michael fired THREE shutouts! Michael has a record of 12-3 this season, with an ERA of 2.71. In 129.2 Innings he was able to strike out 164 batters. He has 4 complete games and 3 shutouts. He's 4th in the National League in ERA and 1st in wins!
 
Saturday 7/1/2081: Oakland's Valdez earns Batter of the Month award
The Batter of the Month award in the American League goes to Oakland's Domingo Valdez this time, as the shortstop displayed the best offensive perfomance in his league. Domingo went 35 for 89 (.393), while hitting 11 HR and collecting 30 RBI. While compiling an on base percentage of .361, Domingo hit .309 and slugged .654. He has collected 68 runs batted in this year. He's 8th in the American League in batting, 2nd in homeruns and 3rd in RBI! It's the 10th time that the National League Batter of the Month award goes to Philadelphia's first baseman Alex Rivera. Alex went 40 for 100 (.400), while hitting 13 HR and collecting 41 RBI. Alex is hitting .320 this year, with 85 hits in 266 at bats. He has driven in 90 runs, slugging .677. He's 10th in the National League in batting, 1st in homeruns and 1st in RBI!
 
Tuesday 6/27/2081: Los Angeles (A)'s Kenneth Gardner unloads three times
ARIZONA - Kenneth Gardner powered Los Angeles (A) to a 10-8 win over Arizona. He did it in style by homering three times. His 1st blast, a solo homerun off Albert Rodrigues in the 2nd inning, landed an estimated 389 feet from home plate. In the 8th inning he unloaded a solo homerun off William Caouette. That one tied it at 8 runs apiece. His 3rd shot, a solo homerun off Jeffery Frye in the 10th inning, cleared the fence in left-center. Overall he got 4 hits in 5 AB, scoring FOUR runs and collecting 3 RBI. So far this season he is batting .289 with 10 homers and 45 RBI.
 
Tuesday 6/27/2081: Milwaukee's Elder Cabello has great day with six hits
DETROIT - Milwaukee's designated hitter Elder Cabello accomplished a difficult feat in a 11-6 win over Detroit, drilling six hits to improve his career batting average to .275! A two-run double off George Levitt in the 2nd inning accounted for his 2nd hit. That one tied it at 2 runs apiece. His 4th hit was a RBI double off John Riccardi in the 10th inning. He had singles in the 1st inning , in the 4th (one RBI) , in the 12th inning and in the 16th inning . Elder scored one run, and he collected 4 RBI as well! His 6 hit performance increases his batting average to .268. The final score of the game was 11-6.
 
Monday 6/26/2081: Pittsburgh's Taylor wins Player of the Week award
Sang Richman from Detroit wins his 1st Player of the Week award for putting up the best numbers this week in the American League. Richman helped his team with an average of .524 and 7 RBI in 21 at bats. Michael Taylor of Pittsburgh wins his 2nd Player of the Week award for dominating National League's hitters the entire week. He was in a zone all week, compiling an ERA of 0.00 while going 2-0. He pitched two shutouts! Michael has a record of 11-3 this season, with an ERA of 2.83. In 120.2 Innings he was able to strike out 155 batters. Michael has pitched 3 shutouts and 3 complete games. He's 5th in the National League in ERA and 1st in wins!
 
Friday 6/23/2081: Alfred Peters pitches his 1st shutout of the season
ARIZONA - Arizona's right-hander Alfred Peters is a great pitcher. And he once again showed his stuff, blanking Texas on just 2 hits. It's his 1st shutout this season, and the 2nd time he has done it in his career. 'I felt early that I was on top of my game. Fortunately I was able to keep that feeling the entire game.' Peters (8-4) struck out 6 and walked 2, throwing 58 of 95 pitches for strikes. Arizona's rightfielder Larry Baldwin collected 2 hits in 4 trips to the plate. That was enough to support the brilliant performance of Peters. The final score of the game was 1-0.
 
Thursday 6/22/2081: 5-hit performance by Cincinnati's Kyle Oneal
CLEVELAND - Kyle Oneal is among the best pure hitters in the game, but his 5 hit performance seemed to surprise even himself. His 3rd hit, off Brian Cervantes in the 5th inning, was a three-run homerun and cleared the fence in left-center. Number 4 in the 6th inning, a shot estimated at 382 feet, cleared the wall in left-center. He collected singles in the 2nd , in the 3rd and in the 8th . Kyle scored 4 runs, and he collected 4 RBI as well! He's having a very good season so far, batting .306. Cincinnati scored 11 runs on 17 hits.
 
Tuesday 6/20/2081: Po-ta Taro pounds three dingers
COLORADO - Hitting homeruns is one of the most difficult things in sports. To hit three of them in one game is almost sensational. Colorado's catcher Po-ta Taro accomplished that feat in a 13-12 win over Seattle. Number 1 in the 1st inning, a shot estimated at 378 feet, cleared the wall in right field. A 400 foot drive to left field marked his 2nd bomb, a solo homerun off Amador Monroy in the 2nd inning. A pitch from James Philson in the 10th inning left his bat for a solo homerun, landing 417 feet from home plate in right-center. His final homerun proved to be the game winner as well! Po-ta got 4 hits in 4 AB, scoring FOUR times with 4 RBI. On 5/13/2081, Marcos Aguero was the last player to hit 3 dingers in a single game. Colorado improved its record to 37-34, scoring 13 runs on 12 hits.
 
Tuesday 6/20/2081: Claver Cadena (CHA) will miss 6 weeks
CHICAGO (A) - Chicago (A)'s lefty Claver Cadena suffered a severe injury on Tuesday and will be out for at least 6 weeks. In the 6th of the game against Pittsburgh he experienced pain in his throwing arm and had to leave the game. Strained Bicep Muscle was the diagnosis after x-rays were taken in a nearby hospital. The message shocked teammates and team officials. This season Cadena compiled an ERA of 4.04, going 5-6 in 14 starts. He fanned 69 while giving up 101 hits in 100.1 innings.
 
Tuesday 6/20/2081: Robert Coss fires 2-hitter against Milwaukee
MILWAUKEE - It was a great day for Kansas City's southpaw Robert Coss. The 31-year old recorded his first career shutout, a 2-hitter, against Milwaukee on Tuesday. 'I didn't feel that I had good stuff while warming up. But it got better the more I threw the ball. I guess I was lucky.' Coss (4-6) showed excellent control, walking nobody and fanning 9. Kansas City's third baseman William Boan went 3 for 6, hitting a homerun, hitting a double, scoring 2 runs and collecting 5 RBI. That was enough to support the brilliant performance of Coss. The final score of the game was 13-0.
 
Monday 6/19/2081: Colorado's Kao wins Player of the Week award
The Player of the Week award in the American League goes to Seattle's John Metivier this time, as the designated hitter displayed the best offensive perfomance in his league. He had an on base percentage of .542 and hit .500, while driving in 12 runs. Colorado's leftfielder William Kao had some reason to celebrate as well, as the league named him the National League Player of the Week. In 21 at bats he hit .619 with 3 HR and 6 RBI.
 
Wednesday 6/14/2081: Guy Wise dominates New York (N), gives up just 2 hits
NEW YORK (N) - It was a great day for Philadelphia's right-hander Guy Wise. The 26-year old recorded his first career shutout, a 2-hitter, against New York (N) on Wednesday. 'I hit the corners with all of my pitches. That helped a lot!' Wise (7-1) struck out 6 and issued 2 BB, throwing 59 of 99 pitches for strikes. Carlos Garcia helped Wise at the plate, he went 2 for 3, and collecting 2 RBI. Philadelphia improved its record to 45-20, scoring 7 runs on 12 hits.
 
Tuesday 6/13/2081: Texas' Grant Bone laces 2000th career hit
TEXAS - Grant Bone got a standing ovation from 15237 fans in Texas, who witnessed his 2000th career hit. His best year so far was 2072 where he hit .280 with 20 homeruns and 92 RBI. 'I guess I'll celebrate a bit today. But the most important thing is winning, and my whole career I gave everything I could to help my team.' With no outs in the 5th inning, Grant drilled a double, causing a standing ovation from the crowd.
 
Monday 6/12/2081: Bill Smith shuts out Toronto on 2 hits
DETROIT - Bill Smith took the mound and never left. And Toronto hitters couldn't touch him at all. Detroit's right-hander gave up just 2 hits in his 1st shutout of the season. He now has 3 career shutouts in 164 games started. 'I hit the corners with all of my pitches. That helped a lot!' Smith (7-5) struck out 7 and walked 2, throwing 63 of 109 pitches for strikes. Luther Woodman provided Detroit with the offense Smith needed as he collected 3 hits in 5 trips to the plate, stroking a double, and collecting 2 RBI. Detroit scored 7 runs on 13 hits.
 
Monday 6/12/2081: Ewalt (MIN) and Rivera (PHI) win P.O.W. award
The American League's best player of the week was Minnesota's Stephen Ewalt, who wins the award for the 1st time in his career. In 23 at bats he hit .609 with 1 HR and 8 RBI. Philadelphia's first baseman Alex Rivera had some reason to celebrate as well, as the league named him the National League Player of the Week. He suffered a serious injury in a game against Chicago (A) where he left the field in the 8th inning. After being examined by several specialists the diagnosis is clear: Strained Bicep Muscle. Juan has a record of 2-2 this season, with an ERA of 3.62. In 27.1 Innings he was able to strike out 17 batters.

It's his 1st shutout this season, and the 13th time he has done it in his career. Taylor (8-2) was overpowering, fanning 10 while walking 2, throwing 106 pitches. 'My catcher called a very good game. I have to give credit to him.' The hitting star for Pittsburgh was leftfielder Pedro Tijerina, he collected 3 hits in 4 trips to the plate. Pittsburgh improved its record to 37-20, scoring 2 runs on 6 hits.

The American League Player of the Week award goes to Junrokurou Atshushi, Cleveland's starting second baseman. In 21 at bats he hit .429 with 2 HR and 7 RBI. His season numbers are: .258 AVG, 50 hits, 12 doubles, 4 triples and 12 taters, along with 41 RBI and 32 runs scored. He's 9th in the American League in RBIs and 8th in homeruns! Richard Okelley wins his 2nd Player of the Week award. National League pitchers couldn't figure out how to retire this guy all week long. Richard went 10 for 24 (.417), while hitting 4 HR and collecting 6 RBI.

PHILADELPHIA - Raymond Bare had some fun again. Arizona hitters did not. Philadelphia's southpaw gave up just 2 hits in his 2nd shutout of the season. He now has 11 career shutouts in 367 games started. Bare (8-2) was overpowering, fanning 11 while walking 2, throwing 114 pitches. 'Hey, that's my job! Everytime I take the mound I give the best I can. And my best stuff was too much for them today.' Philadelphia's first baseman Alex Rivera collected 2 hits in 3 trips to the plate, and collecting 2 RBI. That was enough to support the brilliant performance of Bare. Philadelphia scored 5 runs on 11 hits.
 
Thursday 6/1/2081: Cincinnati's Garza named Pitcher of the Month
It's the 4th time that the American League Pitcher of the Month award goes to New York (A)'s pitcher Emanuel Sandoval. He started 6 games in May, going 4-0 and compiling an ERA of 1.41 in 44.2 innings. Emanuel fanned 51 hitters. In 12 starts this year Emanuel struck out 106 batters in 86.2 innings of work. His ERA is 2.39, his record 6-3. He's 2nd in the American League in ERA and 6th in wins! The best month of May in the National League certainly had Cincinnati's right-hander Abel Garza, earning him the Pitcher of the Month award. His record of 6-0 in 6 was among the leagues best this month. In 44.1 innings of work he allowed just 22 hits while striking out 42, compiling an ERA of just 1.22. In 12 starts this year Abel struck out 93 batters in 83.2 innings of work. His ERA is 2.15, his record 7-2. He's 1st in the National League in ERA and 2nd in wins!
 
Thursday 6/1/2081: Cincinnati's Schupp named Batter of the Month
Alex Aguiar of Seattle wins his 2nd Batter of the Month award for putting up the best numbers in the American League. He hit .398 with 35 RBI and slugged .741 in 108 at bats. Alex has gone 72 for 199 (.362) this season, hitting 15 bombs and driving in 55 runs. He has scored 42 runs on his own. He's 1st in the American League in batting, 2nd in homeruns and 1st in RBI! The National League Batter of the Month award goes to Will Schupp, Cincinnati's starting third baseman. Schupp helped his team with an average of .329 and 26 RBI in 82 at bats. Schupp has hit 11 taters this year while batting .259. He adds 13 doubles, along with 24 runs scored.
 
Wednesday 5/31/2081: Florida's Brown out for 6 weeks
FLORIDA - Florida's centerfielder Steffen Brown will miss about 6 weeks after he hurt himself badly in the 7th inning of the game between Florida and Colorado. He dove for a drive off the bat of Rory Apel, and immediately signaled that he's not OK after hitting the ground. Florida wasted no time and rushed him to an hospital. Team officials were informed later that Brown had suffered a Broken Hand. His season numbers are: .291 AVG, 62 hits, 9 doubles, no triples and 6 taters, along with 17 RBI and 26 runs scored.
 
Monday 5/29/2081: Houston's Vieira wins Player of the Week award
Scott Clarke from Baltimore wins his 5th Player of the Week award for putting up the best numbers this week in the American League. Clarke helped his team with an average of .571 and 12 RBI in 21 at bats. Vicente Vieira wins his 4th Player of the Week award. National League pitchers couldn't figure out how to retire this guy all week long. Vicente was on fire, hitting .400 with 3 HR and 7 RBI.
 
Sunday 5/28/2081: Amadis Chavez pitches 2-hit shutout against Texas
LOS ANGELES (A) - Amadis Chavez had his best stuff going, and Texas hitters had nothing to cheer about. Los Angeles (A)'s lefty pitched a 2-hitter, his 1st shutout of the season. 'I really like to play baseball, and I love the way I was able to play it today.' Chavez (6-2) struck out 9 and walked 3, throwing 63 of 113 pitches for strikes. The hitting star for Los Angeles (A) was leftfielder Robert Zellers, he stroked 2 hits in 4 AB, with 2 RBI. The final score of the game was 3-0.
 
Tuesday 5/23/2081: Tampa Bay's Alicea severely injured
TAMPA BAY - When it rains, it pours. Tampa Bay's ace Dale Alicea will not pitch for at least 8-9 weeks, handing the team a huge setback. He suffered a serious injury in a game against Baltimore where he left the field in the 2nd inning. Tampa Bay wasted no time and rushed him to an hospital. Team officials were informed later that Alicea had suffered a Broken Elbow. Opposing players hit .234 against Dale this season. While posting an ERA of 4.11 he went 4-4 in 10 starts, fanning 41 and walking 23 hitters. He has one complete game and one shutout.

The American League Player of the Week award goes to Taijirou Kinzo, Minnesota's starting third baseman. He hit .478 with 16 RBI and slugged .652 in 23 at bats. He hit in every game this week and extended his hitting streak to 13 games. Cincinnati's third baseman Will Schupp had some reason to celebrate as well, as the league named him the National League Player of the Week. Will went 10 for 20 (.500), while hitting 4 HR and collecting 11 RBI. Schupp has walked 10 times this year and posts a .293 OBP. While batting .243, 33 for 136, he has driven in 19 runs.
 
Sunday 5/21/2081: Carlos Garcia collects 3000th hit against Baltimore
PHILADELPHIA - Philadelphia's Carlos Garcia showed a smile on his face after he got his 3000th career hit against Baltimore on Sunday. His best year so far was 2076 where he hit .391 with 40 homeruns and 137 RBI. 'Good things happen when you put the bat on the ball.' His hit in the 1st inning was a single off John Beringer. It's no secret that he will one day be in the Hall of Fame!
 
Thursday 5/18/2081: Lawrence Poindexter (CLE) will miss 5 weeks
CLEVELAND - Cleveland is without its ace Lawrence Poindexter for at least 5 weeks. He injured himself while throwing a pitch to Ricky Gutierrez in a game against Minnesota. His face showed signs of pain immediately after the ball left his hand. After being examined by several specialists the diagnosis is clear: Pulled Rotator Cuff Muscle. His ERA of 4.67 helped him to a 3-4 record this year. He struck out 33 and walked 27 in 52 innings.
 
Wednesday 5/17/2081: Cleveland's Diaz out for the season
CLEVELAND - Cleveland's right-hander Mateo Diaz experienced probably the worst case scenario for a pitcher, a season ending injury. After pitching in the 4th inning of the game against Minnesota, Diaz complained about serious pain in his throwing arm. He had to leave the game. After being examined by several specialists the diagnosis is clear: Torn Rotator Cuff Muscle.
 
Monday 5/15/2081: Vilaseca (LAA) and Tijerina (PIT) win P.O.W. award
The Player of the Week award in the American League goes to Los Angeles (A)'s Julian Vilaseca this time, as the second baseman displayed the best offensive perfomance in his league. In 22 at bats he hit .409 with 6 HR and 14 RBI. Julian managed to drive in at least one run in every game he played this week. He now has homered in 3 consecutive games as well! Vargas 1st shutout this season was a masterpiece, as he was almost untouchable. He has now hurled 2nd shutouts in his career. Vargas (2-3) was overpowering, fanning 11 while walking 1, throwing 116 pitches. 'My catcher called a very good game. I have to give credit to him.' The hitting star for Oakland was centerfielder Anthony Doan, he got 2 hits in 4 AB, hitting 2 doubles, and collecting 2 RBI. The final score of the game was 5-0.
 
Friday 5/12/2081: New York (N)'s Leiva out for 5 weeks
NEW YORK (N) - New York (N)'s ace Carlos Leiva suffered a severe injury on Friday and will be out for at least 5 weeks. In the 3rd of the game against Houston he experienced pain in his throwing arm and had to leave the game. After being taken to a local hospital, Leiva was examined by specialists. The diagnosis revealed the sad truth, a Strained Elbow Ligament. In 9 starts this year Carlos struck out 70 batters in 55.2 innings of work. His ERA is 4.37, his record 2-5.

BOSTON - Boston's right-hander Jeffrey Adkisson is clearly one of the best pitchers in the game. Texas found out the hard way, getting just one hit. Tuesday 5/9/2081: Glen Bushnell out for 5 weeks
SAN DIEGO - San Diego is without its ace Glen Bushnell for at least 5 weeks. He injured himself while throwing a pitch to Stephen Hickey in a game against Cincinnati. His face showed signs of pain immediately after the ball left his hand. After being taken to a local hospital, Bushnell was examined by specialists. He's 8th in the American League in batting, 4th in homeruns and 1st in RBI! It's the 1st time that the National League Player of the Week award goes to Los Angeles (N)'s catcher Charles Franco. SEATTLE - Seattle's right-hander Amador Monroy is clearly one of the best pitchers in the game. Minnesota found out the hard way, getting just 2 hits. Monroy 1st shutout this season was a masterpiece, as he was almost untouchable. He has now hurled 3rd shutouts in his career. Monroy (2-1) struck out 6 and walked 2, throwing 74 of 120 pitches for strikes. 'Well, the ball went where I wanted it. I was able to hit the corners with all of my pitches.' The hitting star for Seattle was leftfielder Alex Aguiar, he finished 2 for 3, and collecting 2 RBI. The final score of the game was 4-0.
 
Monday 5/1/2081: New York (N)'s Trim out for 6 weeks
NEW YORK (N) - New York (N) is without its southpaw William Trim for at least 6 weeks. He injured himself while throwing a pitch to Dallas Lasseter in a game against Washington. His face showed signs of pain immediately after the ball left his hand. Spasms Back was the diagnosis after x-rays were taken in a nearby hospital. The message shocked teammates and team officials. William has a record of 1-1 this season, with an ERA of 1.64. In 11 Innings he was able to strike out 17 batters.
 
Monday 5/1/2081: Milwaukee's Mechling named Pitcher of the Month
Winner of this months American League Pitcher of the Month award is Detroit's Gregory Hillyard. He went 3-1 in April and finished the month with an ERA of 0.96. He struck out 49 in 46.2 innings. Winner of this months National League Pitcher of the Month award is Milwaukee's James Mechling. He had an ERA of just 2.02 in 35.2 innings of work in which he struck out 45 hitters. His record in April is 5-0. James pitched a shutout as well.
 
Monday 5/1/2081: Red hot Baeza and Callan win Batter of the Month award
The Batter of the Month award in the American League goes to Toronto's Jesus Baeza this time, as the catcher displayed the best offensive perfomance in his league. Baeza helped his team with an average of .372 and 20 RBI in 78 at bats. Milwaukee's second baseman Tyrone Callan had some reason to celebrate as well, as the league named him the National League Batter of the Month. Tyrone was on fire, hitting .390 with 5 homeruns and 20 RBI.
 
Monday 5/1/2081: Milwaukee's Boothby wins Player of the Week award
Dan Arguelles of Kansas City wins his 1st Player of the Week award for dominating American League's hitters the entire week. Arguelles was overpowering all week long, going 2-0 with an ERA of 1.15. Along the way he struck out 13 in 15.2 innings. Herman Boothby wins his 1st Player of the Week award. National League pitchers couldn't figure out how to retire this guy all week long. He hit .545 with 7 RBI and slugged .955 in 22 at bats.
 
Thursday 4/27/2081: Pittsburgh's Wynne severely injured
PITTSBURGH - Pittsburgh is without its right-hander Daniel Wynne for at least 6 weeks. He injured himself while throwing a pitch to Tomas Jimenez in a game against Atlanta. His face showed signs of pain immediately after the ball left his hand. After being examined by several specialists the diagnosis is clear: Pulled Bicep Muscle. In 5 starts this year Daniel struck out 27 batters in 31.1 innings of work. His ERA is 4.02, his record 2-1.
 
Monday 4/24/2081: New York (A)'s Diez wins Player of the Week award
Oswaldo Diez wins his 1st Player of the Week award. American League pitchers couldn't figure out how to retire this guy all week long. In 21 at bats he hit .476 with 3 HR and 9 RBI. Leslie Daly from Arizona wins his 1st Player of the Week award for putting up the best numbers this week in the National League. He hit .370 with 11 RBI and slugged .815 in 27 at bats.
 
Monday 4/17/2081: Cincinnati's Donnelly wins Player of the Week award
The American League Player of the Week award goes to Victor Johnson, Seattle's starting rightfielder. Victor pounded opposing pitchers, hitting .455 with 1 HR and 7 RBI while slugging .818. He has hit 2 bombs while batting .451 this season. His 23 hits and 5 walks add up to a .509 on-base percentage. He's 1st in the American League in batting and 1st in RBI! The National League Player of the Week award goes to Roosevelt Donnelly, Cincinnati's starting first baseman. He had an on base percentage of .500 and hit .481, while driving in 8 runs.
 
Sunday 4/16/2081: Alex Rivera has 2000th career hits
PHILADELPHIA - Philadelphia's players had every reason to congratulate Alex Rivera, who reached a milestone today, collecting his 2000th career hit! He hit a single in the 3rd off Balta Valdes for number 2000. In 13 years of big league action so far, Alex has compiled a batting average of .308, along with 524 homeruns and 1667 RBI. 'You dream about that as a kid, but when you reach such a milestone it's hard to believe. Fantastic.'
 
Monday 4/10/2081: Clarke (BAL) and Aguero (STL) win P.O.W. award
Baltimore's centerfielder Scott Clarke had some reason to celebrate, as the league named him the American League Player of the Week. Clarke helped his team with an average of .435 and 9 RBI in 23 at bats. Marcos Aguero from St. Louis wins his 2nd Player of the Week award for putting up the best numbers this week in the National League. Aguero helped his team with an average of .391 and 14 RBI in 23 at bats. He now has homered in 5 consecutive games as well!
 
Monday 4/3/2081: Neal Robinson pitches his 1st shutout of the season
NEW YORK (A) - Neal Robinson had his best stuff going, and New York (A) hitters had nothing to cheer about. Toronto's right-hander pitched a 1-hitter, his 1st shutout of the season. With one out in the 7th inning Thomas Holsinger singled to break up the no-hitter. 'Hey, that's my job! Everytime I take the mound I give the best I can. And my best stuff was too much for them today.' Robinson (1-0) was really unbelievable, striking out 16 and walking 1, throwing 81 of 124 pitches for strikes. Alejo Reynosa provided Toronto with the offense Robinson needed as he finished 2 for 4, blasting a homerun, and driving in 3 runs. Toronto scored 5 runs on 5 hits.
